Re: Just quit my 6 figure job to play live poker

It is extremely hard to play poker when you are going through emotional hurricanes in your personal life.

Do yourself a favor and take some time for yourself. Maybe a week or so sounds good.

Then, after you pull yourself together, crush the crazy PLO games in Vegas during WSOP.

Thanks for the comments.

road trip/traveling seems like an excellent idea. I'm glad you suggested that because as silly as this sounds, it's something I'll probably do but wasn't something that crossed my mind. Destination... where?

Sorry to hear about IRL problems, getting your min off poker sounds like a great idea. Unfortunately I have done basically no traveling so I can't give advice there but hopefully you have a good trip.

There is nothing better than the deep stack $2/5 games of the South and Midwest to take your mind off an ailing heart.

I think nature most often does the job of giving perspective and peace. Leave L.A. driving up the coast, it's mostly a beautiful trip, and check out the old growth redwood forests outside of San Francisco. Nothing like a tree that's older than American civilization to settle the mind down. Lots of other great distractions in that 'neck of the woods' as well

+1 to this idea.

If you can do it, you should just take the Pacific Coast Highway all the way to Oregon. The Oregon Coast is actually even more beautiful than the California coastline (except for Big Sur, which is amazing).

Yosemite would be a good idea. It's a few hours north I think..

If I were you I'd try and find someone to go with off couchsurfing.com (girl, perhaps?)

What a wonderful thread.

Sorry to hear about your girlfriend troubles.

Have you ever been to Catalina? It's quiet and there's no chance to play poker. You can rest and regroup.

Don,

You have the opportunity and resources to go wherever you want. I am not saying you don't realize this but you are very fortunate. The harder the breakup was, the farther you should go.

Re: Just quit my 6 figure job to play live poker

Played a 9 hour session yesterday and was up $930, and a 1 hour session late the night before and was up $100. Definitely not playing my A-game due to life tilt issues, but it's not too bad. TBH the majority of the people who I would consider friends in LA (not sure if they consider me a friend) are the PLO Bike regs, so it's been nice.

I wasn't planning on going to the series, but I think I will most likely go to that (75% chance) just to meet some old friends as well as some 2+2ers. Hopefully will be a good time.

LA total: $72797, 552 hours.

Re: Just quit my 6 figure job to play live poker

Played a 12 hour session yesterday was up $2140. Kept wanting to go home but the game kept getting better and better lol.

A rec player who I played with several times told me to ship it vs. his blind hand for $2k, he lied and had double suited aces. Never would have expected this guy to do that. Pretty irritated about that.

LA total: $74937, 564 hours.

That's rotten - I hope it was noted by all!

On another note, I subscribe to your thread and when I clicked to open it I was diverted to a new tab with only 'Your flash player is dangerously out of date - update now!' and a button. My flash is perfect according to Adobe. Obv some sort of badness. I sent a message bout it via twoplustwo.com feedback but just thought it wouldn't hurt to have it here...

Re: Just quit my 6 figure job to play live poker

Since you're the PLO pro let me ask you if this is a slowroll.

Flop comes Q45 and a blind pots, EP calls, MP re-pots, I call all in and everyone folds back to MP. I flip over Q6 for a diamond sweat. Turn is T river is 3 and he turns over 44xx for a flopped set. I immediately turn over another Q6 for a bigger flopped set. He basically goes balistic for 10 minutes about that being the worst slowroll he's ever encountered (and I know he plays for a living - more NLHE than PLO though) etc.... If at any point before showdown he would have opened his hand or said he flopped a set I would have showed my top set.

I see people do that ALL the time and nobody ever says anything.

Re: Just quit my 6 figure job to play live poker

Kinda seems like a slowroll to me. I understand its PLO but you did flop the nuts AND a FD. I would be flipping over no cards personally, but if you do it should be all 4 of them

Really not that bad tho IMO

lol if he considers what you did a slowroll, then wtf was he waiting until the river with his 44xx for anyway

honestly anyone who goes ballistic over that isn't even worth it

Re: Just quit my 6 figure job to play live poker

No offense, but I'd definitely see that as a slow roll- by showing only the Qd6d you were implying that you were solely on a naked Q high flush draw/possible top set blocker, which is light but not that unusual to call with in PLO.

He shouldn't have been going ballistic and it's definitely not the worst slow roll ever... but you probably should've turned over all 4 or none at all.

Worst slow roll I've ever encountered- all in for a decent pot on the river, guy (who's a serious d-bag) says he has two pair on a paired board... then takes his good time to roll over the quads as his "two pair".

Somehow it seems that more often than not when someone claims they have not looked they magically wake up with some type of nuttish hand. What a coincidence! So many stand up people in the world of poker. Anyway, I have recently subscribed to your thread and am in the process of reading the thread in its entirety. To say that your thread is inspiring and motivating to me is an understatement. I wish you the best of luck in everything that you are doing at the moment and in the future.

Re: Just quit my 6 figure job to play live poker

Regarding the slowroll, I don't think it's any different than villain waiting to turn over his hand. That's all. Honestly I think you shouldn't have done it, but IMO fk any guy who who berates you for 10 minutes for that.

Regarding the claim of not looking at his hand, I never believe them 90% of the time, it's just this particular guy I didn't think would do it because he's not malicious. Little did I know, although he had 0 malicious intent he thinks it's just part of the fun and the thought really never crosses his mind that it costs me a bunch of $$. I honestly can't complain as he routinely straddles to $100 from any position in our 5-5 game.

Lost $817 today in about 6 hours.

LA total: $74120, 570 hours.
