Streamed video game 11 hours today, made $6.50 which is technically a lot more than I made yesterday! Had a blast the entire time, but yeah I still have doubts about my motivation issues. I think I'm definitely "motivated" to stream, I just have doubts about potentially "wasting" a lot of time. We'll see how it goes...

Oh we've also been talking about variance a bunch but IDK, there's a fairly good chance I played bad as well

Here is graph from the 2 days of streaming, showing the tail end of downswing. Will post hands tomorrow

Went for explo c/r here as I couldn't think of too many hands he would take this line with that can call a c/r (his hand makes sense ofc). Considered calling and lead rivers we miss as literally every non-board pairing card brings a straight too:

I believe that he was an analyst for the FDA in Arkansas.

Aesah, I know you've mentioned it, but is there a reason that you don't play more live? Nothing wrong with grinding PLO on ignition, but so many of your successes have come from crushing the felt.

AAQT you should fold to the turn check raise.

AT87 with three hearts should not be opened from MP.

No way. I hate poker like 50% of the time but I also love it like 50% of the time. Also, that's just more recently. Historically throughout my career I've loved poker like 80% at least. The other job was just neutral/boring like 100% of the time. Although my job at Riot Games was fun almost always too, wouldn't be out of the question for me to re-apply there sometime in the future there but not at the moment.

Just don't feel like it right now. Liberatus guys said they expect the program to be able to be run on smartphones 5 years from now, so perhaps then online poker may not even be an option

ty right now out of grind mode but if I ever get back in it will try to post more hands. Regarding the AAQT hand it's vs. a fish so I'm not super concerned with frequencies, but I think we are supposed to defend ~50% of our betting range vs. a pot c/r here and I felt that this hand was in the top 50%. But maybe it's not and I'm betting too many Jxxx hands on the flop too?

This is one of the reasons that I don't know if I could ever cut it as a full time poker player. So many people end up hating poker after playing for years and years.

Aesah, in your opinion, what do you think the differences are between long term pros who still enjoy the game and those who start disliking it (not a complete dislike, but getting bored with it and not wanting to play often)?

And people in the 90s said that we would have flying cars today lol. Scientists are bad at making predictions, also libratus used a supercomputer, it's almost impossible that we will have cell phones in 5 years with the same processing power as a supercomputer today(unless people make sick doscoveries). Bots are also non-existent in stars, which shows that if a casino really wants to erradicate them, they will.

Agreed!

Also if you really like online poker you should find a cash level that for you is the equivalent of just playing a video game. If 50plo means nothing to you then grind that level. 200plo may be too high for your comfort level which will cause additional stress when you make mistakes.

You will be fine, you just need to find the right level where you feel at peace, work on better starting hand selection, raise sizing, and folding. Online is different beast than live

Good Luck

From what I've seen long term pros who still enjoy it are either 1) live pros who just enjoy being social with the table, hard to go wrong just folding everything while chatting with friends, or 2) online players who really like the challenge. Obviously no one is capable of mastering everything in poker in their lifetime, so the challenge is unending.

Smartphones have as much computing power as supercomputers in the 90s, doesn't seem like that much of a stretch. Anyway, we'll see what happens.

The funny thing is, a 20 buyin downswing at 200plo is $4k, which was a pot size that I played almost daily in live PLO. It just feels different. But yeah maybe I'll hit up PLO100 next time, if there is a next time.

Only fair to share the good news now too- small sample, but it's a start. Moved down to PLO100 and started playing a bit again. Here's the upswing since the previous fiasco:

I'm still struggling a lot with two things. The first one is balancing volume. Not enough volume means variance feels worse (purely emotional) than it should, and too much volume makes me lose my enjoyment/motivation to play. I would also say I'm struggling to balance streaming video games + playing poker, both of them require quite a time commitment outside of purely the act itself. Poker requires studying, streaming requires networking with other streamers, making videos, advertising on Discord/reddit/etc. So I've temporarily dropped streaming games with the intention of profiting for now, will probably still do a bit recreationally.

The second is imposter syndrome- losing a ton of confidence in myself to be profitable online after going through a 40 buy-in downswing even though I feel it's obvious I can when I approach it with a clear head. Yes, rake exists, but I've spent a ton of time studying this game that I have a strong natural aptitude towards to begin with, and the vast majority of my opponents are recreational. Just like, when I lose a lot, I feel like I must be screwing up somehow.

Also, leaving these here too- it's simply a combination of the previous graph from the 2 days of streaming + the one above. Top one is in BB, bottom one is in $ (since losses were at PLO200 and wins were at PLO100). Tiny samples, some people play this many hands in 1 day, so hopefully I'll hit some reasonable amount of hands at some point!

Will post some hands soon too

Got a really lucky result here from turn 3b. Felt that population was much more likely to raise diamonds + turned straight draw than check back sets + the times he has TT.

I think much of the player pool would not use this sizing with hands they want to bet/call, feels like maybe pair + nut spades type hands which we do well against and also monsters like straight + FD which are rare but at least we have some equity too. Straights tend to go closer to full pot on this texture

Have been on vacation this past week (cabin trip w/ high school friends) so did absolutely zero studying/playing poker during that time. Before then I'm still not really in full swing, just doing a couple hours per day.

While these hands may appear to have been played at 0.01/0.02, they were in fact played at 1/2
