Just a Blog - Goals Thread

Nick: BassClef @ Blackchip Poker

About me: 30yo engineer from Vermont, the land of milk and honey. Love poker, but want to buy a farm.

Short Term Goals:
50NL 6max
$15.30 STHUSNG

Long
Grind out a significant amount of the down payment for a farm and grow organic vege's and make dank foods for people to enjoy. (+-$25k)

Starting Bankroll: $100
Current Bankroll: +107.58

Pre BF I played 100NL HU on FTP and Cake. This is my attempt to build a roll and hopefully the DOJ doesn't steal it.

I will update whenever I play.

BRM:
4NL: Below $200
10NL: Take shots @ $250, move down if I fall below $200
25NL: Take shots @ $625, move down if I fall below $500
50NL: Take shots @ $1250, move down if I fall below $1000

I will play SNG's when I have more time to dedicate, but with a 40hr+ job, and a family sometimes its just easier to sit in cash games.

-Anytime I am shot taking I play 2 tables of the higher stake and 2 tables of the lower.

-Don't want to re-deposit

$2.10 ST

$NL 6max

Re: Just a Blog - Goals Thread

So after I posted, the lady went to bed early and I got a chance to get a few more hands in!

Turned a negative day into a positive and managed to pickup a few bucks from my horse who finished 3rd in last nights 30r on Merge for $1300. I had a 1% stake and shipped $13.80 for my piece of the package. So +$3 from the staking +$10 Instant Bonus brings the roll up nicely!

Right now we have an interesting dynamic in my family. My girl, whom is a native new englander is a HUGE Celtics fan. While I live here, I'm from Miami and am a HUGE Heat fan. Needless to say it's been fun! GO HEAT!

Current Bankroll: $122.25

Re: Just a Blog - Goals Thread

So i played quite a bit yesterday. Started the day stuck 2.5bi's at 6max so I decided to take a break and play something else. I have found something I really like that didn't exist pre-black friday for me I guess. I'm going to play several thousand of these and see how it turns out. I've been playing the 6max super turbo's on Merge. I think they're pretty soft, and once I nail down my ranges can do quite well at them.

Here is the graph from my first shot at them. Will continue to grind these pretty hard. Thinking I need no less than 100bi for these. I'm currently playing the smallest game available while I learn. If I can beat this over a few thousand games i'll move up.

Re: Just a Blog - Goals Thread

been playing quite a bit. Learning 6max ST's has been REALLY fun. I still have a lot to learn in this game. It also takes a lot of run good to win. I find myself just because of stack sizes, pot ods, or bb issues or whatever you're stuck getting it in behind.

I also find a lot when i'm getting it in way ahead 3 way all ins with big hands AA, KK, QQ they get rocked a lot.. small pocket pairs get called so wide @ the $1.06's which i'm currently playing so I'm considering how much value they have early with 10BB's to start and 3 minute levels. It feels like small PP's end up against 2 overs almost always since most people seem to be calling 10BB's off with damn near ATC.. I think the minimum I can play these 4 tabling is with 100BI. So I'm going to be super nitty on the BR. Will probably want to have 200BI for each level or more. I have no problems moving down if I have to, but for now going to play the $1.06's.

I really need to nail down an early and late game push/calling range and I think I can beat these for a decent ROI. One thing I am trying to avoid is a bunch of game switching. I want to learn to crush my game and so far of everything i've played since returning, I enjoy these 6max ST's the most. I really like the HUSNG ST's too, but the structure needs a 30/60 and 40/80 level. If they add that I'll probably go back to playing them some as well.

I have good rakeback deal so that's a plus too.

June:

All 6max ST:

Bankroll: $107.95

Goals:
44/1500

I'm going on a 15 day juice fast with my girlfriend. I recently watched a documentary called Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead that inspired me to give it a shot and "Reboot" my body. You can check it out if you're interested www.fatsickandnearlydead.com I think you can watch it free there. I'm also training for a 1/2 Marathon in October and am currently running a 5k for my short run. and a 10k on my long runs atm on saturdays. My 5k time is around 40 minutes at the moment, looking to improve that.

This is the guide i'm following

Fridge Stocked for first few days. It looks great! All organic local produce from Vermont purchased at the Co-Op.

Re: Just a Blog - Goals Thread

played as much as I could yesterday, but ended the day down I believe. Posting from work(it's more fun than working). Bankroll is around $96 and change this morning when I checked nothing to exciting.

bankroll grind going not so good. I did get some good volume in this weekend though around 200 games total between HUSNG's, 6max ST's, and 1.08 DON's on Merge. I have a good rakeback deal so, hopefully have that going for me sometime this week

I'm on day 3 of 15 in my vege/fruit/juice fast and it's going amazing. I feel SO good and can't believe how much energy I actually have. It's quite interesting.

I plan to just keep grinding, and improving. I feel really rusty after so long without internet poker, but I definatley think i can be a decent winner in the small/mid stake SNG's on Merge. I'm seeing though that when I play the DoN's I need to be playing multiple stakes to fill up enough games. We'll explore this, as I'm not sure how many BI i need to play these games comfortably. They're very soft though so I wouldn't think to many. Currently playing with 100 but I think that's crazy over kill. Maybe someone will come along and read my blog and discuss these games with me.

Re: Just a Blog - Goals Thread

not a lot of change today although the juice for my mid morning snack today was AMAZING.

1 Cucumber, 1/2 Lime, Cilantro(Stems and leaves), Pablano Pepper(ribs and seeds removed or kept if you like spice), Apple

DELICIOUS

Grinding has been steady, but break even. Not really sweating it. I have been playing the $1.08 and $2.16 DoN's the past few days. I really like them but am running completely flat in them at the moment. Not sure if I'm trying to play to many games or just running average or just flat out playing bad.

Either way, going to keep on the grind. Continue to play 20ish games a day on average, and more when I can, and make this happen!

My biggest problem at the moment with trying to mass table the DoN's is I have to tile as the stack method on the old merge software doesn't seem right to me. I hope the new 6.0 releasing soon stacks better.

Re: Just a Blog - Goals Thread

Well, not a lot to talk about poker wise, as Merge has been down pretty much for the past few days with the software update and all. When I did manage to get games in though I did pretty well.. I've been playing mostly the $1.08 and $2.16 DoN's. I think the bankroll reached a low of $82 but I have climbed back up to $91 atm and should have a nice cashback payment today.

I plan to keep grinding the DoN's on Merge, and will return to posting graphs and maybe some HH as soon as Merge fixes the HH bugs that are causing PT4 to not work with tournaments.

The new software is very nice in my opinion and now that they have found the bug causing the lag issue that was making playing near impossible, hopefully I can get in some volume.

My juice diet is going very well. I've lost 7lbs so far and am on day 6/15. When I started I weighed 245. I'm now down to 238. I'm not a small guy though and my walking around weight should be around 205. I'm 6'4" and in my life(played college football offensive line) have been as high as 305 and as low as 200 when I left bootcamp.

Today is the first day it will be an all juice day... no solid foods just juice and water. So it should get really interesting between day 6 and 10. Amazingly I feel more energized and have gotten better sleep since starting this all vegetable/fruit/juice fast. Hopefully it continues and improves my poker playing too!

Re: Just a Blog - Goals Thread

Poker is going well, the bankroll is back into the black! Yay, sorry no graphs at this time, until PT4 is properly working with SnG's... Today I plan to grind DoN's and any micro gaurentee MTT's that popup.. I am working from home today so have plenty of time to grind..

My car did break down.. it's not old(bought it brand new in 08).. I think its just the battery.. it won't hold a charge... Don't think its the alternator because it wouldn't run very well. When I jump the car it runs flawlessly.. Gonna get that fixed today.

Juice fast, I'm on day 7 and I stepped on the scale for the first time today... 15 LBS LOST! couldn't belive it. My girlfriend and people at work were telling me my face looked skinnier so I decided to see how i'm doing. Great I think! I feel amazing, probably the best I've felt in a long time. I'm not hungry with only a liquid intake, and i'm sleeping better than I have in years(no anxiety dreams that continuously wake me up...) I feel like I have a lot more energy than I'm use to as well.

While I'm not morbidly obese and never have been, I was about 40lbs over weight for someone of my height(6'4"). When I started this fast I weighed 245. Today I'm down to 230.. Feels good. Hopefully I can drop another 15 over the next 8 days. We'll see! Will update after today's sessions.. Run good one time!

also received rakeback yesterday

Bankroll: $103.09

Re: Just a Blog - Goals Thread

haven't posted in awhile, but I have been playing. Went to a couple Phish shows over the weekend, but got back on the grind today... Had a nice downswing from the 9th to the 14th.. pretty much losing daily, but have been studying a lot lately.. Posting hands in the HUSNG forums, read mers e-book, and studying with my skype group is paying off..

I am really pleased with how i've been playing since going back and sticking with HUST's.. I don't intend to switch again.

So I completed my juice fast.. The final total was 15lbs lost and a hell of a lot more energy! I've even continued not eating meat, and am really enjoying myself.. We've been making really delicious vegetarian dishes that really do taste like their meat counter parts. So far we have done Spaghetti with "Meat" Balls, Vegetarian Sloppy Joes, and a few other things that were really delicious.. The sloppy joe's were the most impressive.. I literally couldn't tell the difference. Didn't think it was possible. Also have been running a lot. My 5k time is finally sub 40 minutes, and it feels nice.

Overall:

Today:

Bankroll: $97.57

Re: Just a Blog - Goals Thread

So, this month has pretty much been a wash. I failed at pretty much every goal I set, and didn't stick to ANY games. I played everything from FR Cash, HUSNG's, DoN's, 6max ST's, 9man Turbos, and never got anything going. Today is my last day on the grind before I leave for vacation, and I'm setting myself up to make some BIG changes in the way I'm playing poker. I HAVE to stick with a game.

While, all my play over the years has mostly come in HU game types, I think I'm going to make an official switch and play strictly the micro stakes FR Cash games on merge. My rakeback deal makes it much better for me and I can continuously get in the amount of volume I'm looking for. I also have a small amount of time to play each day(1-2hrs), i'm able to waitlist every table running and get a good session up and going each day and get 1k-2k hands in with no problem. Where as with SNG's I found myself registering for them all and only getting 20 games a day in.

I will be playing 4NL FR Cash, pretty much all of July and have been playing the last few days of June. Moving up when I have 50BI for a given stake. I will take shots @ 10NL when I hit $500 roll.

This month was completely break even, slightly losing after RB, but I have been putting in hours studying, just not correctly, and jumping around games has only made it worse. My only goals for june are the following;

July Goals :
[ ] Play only FR Cash
[ ] 35,000 Hands(roughly 1k a day, but I have a few days vacation which i'll be alone and can get some massive volume in!)
[ ] Profit

I will grind today, then take time off until July 2nd as i'm going on vacation to Alpine Vallye/Lake Geneva/PHISH! , and get back on the grind when i return.
