Got bored so decided to start a thread with my poker progress.

I've played poker on and off throughout my college years with varied success, loved the highs, hated the lows and despised "the grind". Now I have finished college, got my piece of paper that is my passport to a job and a better life...or so they say...

6 months on from finishing my degree, I find myself in the position the great McGregor found himself in a few years back...jobless, on social welfare and dreaming of a better life. (I'm a huge McGregor fan btw)

But Conor had a clear vision and overwhelming desire to chase his dreams, while I have some dreams, the road towards them seems so unclear right now as I clear my inbox of e-mails declaring "you have been unsuccessful but we will keep your CV on file". Anyway I'm rambling....to supplement my social welfare, the past week I've played 2NL 6max zoom and here are the results...

Please follow the thread and I will hopefully post some hands, more on the road to a better life and some graphs for digestion.

I'm afraid I can't view your results image. Moreover, I think you should set goals/dreams that are clear and attainable or else it can be extremely difficult for them to come true. Good luck on your journey, though!

Thanks Pat, I suppose the poker goal is to grind 2NL zoom and maybe move to 5NL...my life goals are as defined as my poker ones

I was having trouble with the graph, think it's up now?

That's the place to post.
Good luck, and yes to realistic goals, such as I aim to do x hours study per week, x hours playing and what not

Don't let poker get in the way of you looking for a job.

Take poker as seriously as you'd take any other hobby. It's nice to have a hobby that can show a return on investment, however meagre, but don't lose sight of it as something to enjoy and not a great long term prospect right now.

This.

Get a job and earn double what you just made in a week in one day of work.

Welcome to the forum. Im sure you could grind out at least a subsistence level living playing poker but if your inquiring as to how you can do it your probably a few years off getting to that level. Out of interest what part of Ireland are you from? Also theres no variance in MMA.

Probably should have made it a bit clearer that "the dream" is definitely not to make a living out of poker but to have a career in some field and become a boss in that field. Agree with all the comments about getting a job for sure!

I'm from Dublin btw Sharky...and it's true here's no variance in MMA, when Conor's left hits that chin it has 100% success rate

15 BI's over EV! Must be nice! You are running hot and your current results are not realistic long term, but nothing wrong with that. You are obviously doing a lot right to be getting these kind of results and I hope you have as much success in the next 15k.

I was in the same boat when I graduated back in ~2004 and that was when I took my first crack at online poker... back in the days before NL was even really popular outside of tourny's.

GL in your journey!

I live in Dublin myself. Do you play in any of the casinos up here. If not id recommend giving some of the nightly tourneys a go. The standard is pretty low for the most part. Its definitely far easy to turn a profit in these as compared to the same buy in level online and theyr a lot more enjoyable as well given the social side to them. Best of luck at the tables anyway.

You'll reach the heights of the great Conor Mcgregor in time, as long as you dream; that's right, all you have to do is:

Thanks Krimson, I'm gonna aim to up my BB/100 over the next 15k hands, we'll see how that goes..

Nirwanda there's no tax on profits from "gambling" in Ireland...how sweet is that?

I hear ya sharky, I don't want to identify myself on here but I've been around the dublin scene for a few years and got to know a lot of the regulars and the good games. Not a huge fan of the tourney variance (or live cash games, the rake is ridiculous) and having to sit around all night in an environment that I've grown to hate tbh. Plus I'd rather spend some quality time with the gf or socialising in non gambling circles. Having said that I will mostly likely be in the Fitz some night next year for sure!

2cards1hand how did you know I love the Everly brothers?? soul read!!

Awakened some HEM2 software I had from a few years back, find it much less user friendly compared to PT4, but grinding micros wont pay for a PT4 full version so I'll just have to make do.

Haven't played many more hands since first post but I'm at 20k and wont get playing much over Christmas so just gonna post it. Don't know how to get HEM to display the stats on the graph but anyway my BB/100 is running at 17.80 and I'm 24BI above EV (luck of the irish?)

I don't find it fun, just see it has a hobby with financial rewards, so I don't try to make it more than that. Just grinding it out to supplement my limited income, when someone decides they think I'm worth hiring (or even interviewing) I'll mostly likely drop poker!

Open up in late position. For example I play about 35/31 on the button which I think is considered quite tight.

I'm calling here based on villains stats. Wouldn't be surprised to see 2 pair or a pair of aces. Sucks when he shows up with a flush though.
