Better late than never I guess... :
What's up everyone, I'm still alive! It's been roughly 3 months ago since my last update. May/June/July have been pretty much worthless in terms of money won. Going into August I had implemented some changes, the biggest one being that I finally just quit playing on Bros, as the struggle there is just too **** painful.
This is my all time graph for bros. Some stuff missing from when I was using a different HUD. Roughly 110k hands 400nl, 35k hands 600nl, 100k hands 1knl, 25k hands 2knl.
Total rake roughly 140k. Agent must love me lol. Here's a selfie of me :
I do have a profit in MTT's on Bros of roughly 15k. Nothing big but I'll take it.
So all things considered, After adding up my RB ( which we will cautiously estimate as 30% ), I walk away from Bros having shipped about 50k. Not great, but this brings me to my next point...
Take a second and appreciate your accomplishments so far in 2020
It's September 1st, and my net profit for the year is (roughly):
Bros: 50k
Global: 50k + 20k SNG/MTT profit
Iggy: +5k cash+mtt
Which puts us at around 120k for the year with 4 months left to go. Given that I just had 3 really **** months ( of playing much higher than usual ), that's not bad at all!
Throughout May-July, I really picked up a lot of bad habits again. The bad run was paired with poor nutritional choices, work hours that were all over the place, my typical over consumption of alcohol, etc etc. I'm not playing drunk or while drinking or anything like that, but I would 'unwind' at the end of the night, and pour myself a triple Jack and coke. Usually followed by another one. Needless to say this has a huge effect on my productivity levels the next day.
I went into August having planned for a huge grind, which I did not successfully complete. I still logged over 200 hours, but not in an organized manner. Results were decent though, and grinding Global (and Iggy ) again feels like a breath of fresh air.
Some non-poker related events that happened in August:
I have officially started taking college courses again!. For this semester I will be studying an introduction to Macroeconomics, as well as a college course for Algebra. I am totally loving it. It always bothered me that I butchered my college experience growing up and never achieved anything academically. I don't think having a degree would make much of a difference to me ( I'm not doing it to get a job or quit poker ), but the mental stimulation I'm getting from it is very welcome.
I started going to the gym again!. They have opened back up my gym, with the requirement of wearing a mask at all times. Sucks, but I'll take it. Only started VERY recently, so kind of taking things slow. My theoretical knowledge about working out/dieting is actually really advanced ( compared to the typical gym-goer ), my issue has always been consistency and motivation. Simply put, I'm a lazy **** that tends to lose focus on things after a month or so. Will stick with full body workouts 3x/week for the time being to let my body adjust. After that will go back to PUSH/PULL/LEGS/1day rest schedule. Coordinate my workouts around Benchpress/Deadlifts/squats. We're a long way away from that currently though...
Will do some light cardio and some occasional abs stuff, but this is not very important. Hiking season is starting up again soon, so looking forward to that as my cardio. Will typically go 1/2x/week on a 10 mile hike with my wife. Plenty of cardio.
We've actually been paddle boarding a lot this summer, which is awesome. It is a perfect combo of activity and being able to enjoy the nature. The season for it won't last much longer though ( hence the hiking starting again ).
Started intermittent fasting again.. I have been a bit flexible regarding my eating window since I'm not really back to training heavy anyway. It's more about getting back into a good routine, cutting out certain foods, lowering food intake, etc etc. Basically my eating window currently is centered around 1 meal, which I let my wife decide upon ( time of day and content ). Since my work hours are far more flexible than hers, I just basically don't eat until she comes home and decides she's hungry. This probably sounds awful to a lot you, but it's not for me personally. I rarely feel hungry at all,and often just eat because it's 'expected', or out of habit. My wife doesn't like my intermittent fasting routine at all, and often reminds me I should make sure to have breakfast/lunch/dinner. Whatever, not worth the argument with her. She can have all the meals she wants I'll just stick with my one huge meal with her and maybe a smaller meal a bit later. I'm fasting for about 20 hours/day though, so that's starting to go well.
I have noticed that in the last weeks I have become increasingly sensitive for certain foods and alcohol consumption. A lot of this is logically explained ( If I drink 2 triple Jack/cokes a night, obviously my body is suffering the next day in the form of Diarrhea, random stomach irritations,...). If I eat junk food, my body isn't dealing with it very well, and I will run to the bathroom 10x/day etc.
All normal stuff that is well within my control. Stop drinking mixed (triple) drinks, stop eating **** food, and your body will thank you.
I think that covers most of what's been going on since May. Moving forward, this is the goal for September:
Play 200-240 hours of 2/4 2/5 3/6
I will be combining 3 different sites ( for now ). I don't want to play higher than this because it adds extra stress, which I want to avoid at all costs when constructing a solid grind plan for the month.
Play 4 tables max
Some sites are slower than others, but I want to be able to compare apples to apples, and oranges to oranges. Comparing my winrate of 6 tables Global vs 4 tables Iggy is flawed. Sure, I could adjust it to be more accurate (
Hey thank you Macroeconomics course for teaching me that!), but let's not.
I have said this a million times in the past 5 years, so it's time I start listening. I am getting too old to multitable poker. My main focus should be to lower the amount of tables (4max) and focus on making optimal decisions and moving up in stakes to maximize ROI.
Lose 10 lbs
Nothing fancy. Let's start off slow
Stop drinking mixed drinks. have a glass of wine or a beer instead. .
I looove drinking. Simply put tho, nothing good ever came from drinking. Enjoying a nice glass of wine with a good steak is divine. Having a cool beer after a long hot day is paradise. A triple Jack and coke is just a recipe for disaster and some (unexplored ) aim at self destruction. Stick with the enjoyable things, and If you can't, you probably shouldn't drink anything at all.
Turn off distractions whilst playing poker
Speaks for itself. It's easy to get bored playing 4 tables of poker, but that's not an excuse.
Study for college classes BEFORE starting poker.
Nobody wants to study after dropping 2k playing some droolers. Study when you wake up so it's done and you don't have to worry about it anymore.
I'm sure I forgot plenty of things, but can't think of them right now. While I'm writing this, I'm actually having my triple Jack/coke. I thought it was a fitting way to start my September and finally update this blog while having my last stiff drink for a while.
