I'm a 23 year old Dutch poker player. I won't write a couple of pages about my background and how I came to this point in my life, I'll keep the intro short. If you have any questions regarding my situation feel free to ask.
Background
I finished my bachelor in communications, got hired by the company which I previously did an internship at, contract ended 31st of December 2016. Declined an extension of my contract since I didn't feel comfortable at the company. In the beginning of 2017 I gave myself about 3 weeks off. Right now I have enough money to live off for a while and all the time in the world. I decided to give poker a shot. No, I'm not one of those fortune seeking rookies, I thought this stuff through (but still, what a leap of faith).
Poker background
I've played poker since I was 15 or 16, but didn't take it serious until the start of 2015 at the beginning of my 20's. Since then I began to improve my game a lot being a small winner in FR 50nl and had some nice MTT binks. I play both live and online, but 98% of my volume goes online since live is more of a fun time for me (altho I am a winning player at 2/2). Also the nearest casino is a 45 minute drive which is also a factor. Poker has been a nice side-income for me for a long time during college. I can't let it go to mention that at the end of 2016 I've played my very first big live MTT series. I stayed at a hotel at the casino playing 2 side-events which ended up in 3.5k profits which was really a nice confidence boost for my live game.
Poker - so what now?
I set aside €1k for playing my maingame - 20nl and 30nl on a euro site. Besides that I'm playing a MTT session from time to time as well as sitting at the live table every now and then. I'll pay this from my own liferoll tho.
I'm looking to get a solid work ethic and spend at least 100-125hrs playing poker a month. Next to that I need to get back on track with my eat and sleeping schedule, since january was an off-month for me.
The last days of january when I picked up poker again I've played fairly good imo. This is the graph of the last couple of days, 20nl & 30nl.
I won't be moving up to 50nl until I've boosted my bankroll enough and have a solid sample on 20nl and 30nl again. Besides that I want to maintain a very safe BRM since I want poker to be my profession, I can't afford to lose a big % of my bankroll in a single session.
Since it's the beginning of february I'll write down some goals for the month:
Thanks! The initial idea was to go with 6-max since that's the only format that runs decent on the site. However, I looked more into the rake structure of the site and it's just insane. After discovering they handle insane cashout fee's as well, I decided to just cashout my roll and leave the site be. I had a good run on the site but better quit now before variance kicks in and I end up breaking even while having paid an enormous bunch of rake.
So, since I'm not really sure which site to choose I've figured out I'd just play pokerstars fullring for now, since I have experience with those games and still have large samples on some of the regs.
I'm playing fullring 25nl for now. Changing my february goals a little bit, I want to get supernova this month so I'll need to be playing around 130 hours before the end of the month to achieve this. I honestly don't know when PS will be changing the VIP system again, but I guess supernova for now is a good goal to work towards, and hopefully I can benefit from the rakeback a bit before they change it again.
Tomorrow I have a lot of things to do, I'm going to redecorate my workspace, have to go to physiotherapy, going to work out and I'm planning to workout a schedule for the next month in terms of playing hours. I will upload a picture of my workspace sooner or later so stay tuned. That's pretty much it for now, here are some fun/interesting hands:
Oh and a disclaimer, some plays may look weird but I always have reasons for it. Especialy for all you newschool shorthanded LAG players the things I do on nitring sometimes seems way too tight (altho I'll admit I'm at the tighter side as a player), but are always based on reads and the pace of play on nitring, such as flatting AKo on the BTN against a single raise
Hand 1
Villain is a very tight player.
Making these kind of plays is so profitable since he can't continue with most of his range on this board.
Hand 2
Against 27/19 unknown.
I might had to go a little bit bigger with the bets but I guess these sizes also do well in general against a lot of hands as ace high, KQ, J8, KJ and that sort of hands. He's just a non believer.
Hand 3
Against 18/7 reg
Preflop I think its fine to flat this hand in position 200bb deep. I think I made a mistake by betting the river, shouldve given up when the board pairs since now all my 2 pair combo's are busted, even AK can now maybe find a call if he puts me on Q9dd. With this bet I now only rep TJ or a boat or complete air and it's so much easier for AA or AK to call now. I think this play would've been fine (could maybe go a bit bigger) if the board didn't pair since then it's a lot harder for him to call.
Hand 4
Against 38/29 unknown.
In this hand I'm protecting my hand against flush & straightdraws. I'm fairly confident I have the best hand after he calls my raise on the flop since I think 2p or a set will 3bet me to protect against draws as well. Safe turn I can now get paid by a lot of under and overpairs and also weaker jacks. On the river its a clear shove imo.
