So basically this is challenge thread to track my progress from the micro stakes to live cash games

My Poker Background

So I've been playing poker in some way since I was 16, started with the classic playing my friends in £5 buyin sit n go's. From about 18 i started playing online and from about 19 was making decent money for someone my age just playing small stakes cash.

I've always been an Idiot with money though. Most of the time I'd grind up a roll for scratch get to between $3k to $10k , lose a little, and just withdraw a bunch and spend it on too money nights out, probably too many drugs and definitely giving to much away.

I had 2 goes of playing for a living aswell. First attempt was in 2013, I manged to turn $100 into $25k in about 4 months. Basically thought I was a baller ,quit work, and decided to get backed and move to Prague. I spent money like I was never going to lose and then reality hit and it's clear now I was just on a super heater and by the end of the year I had to move back home with less than no money an get my old job back, which was pretty ****. It didn't get me too down tho as 3 months later I had built up my own roll again and decided to play for a living again mainly playing live poker and did pretty well for year or so but again my old spending habits ruined me.

I still continued to play for a living for another year but with a limited bankroll just grinding out 50nl which was pretty sad. From then I reached point where I kind of hated poker and finally got a real job again. That was 2 years ago and since then i've only played the odd bit of poker here and here but never really stuck with a grind for more than a month and been living pay check to pay check.

I'm now closer to 30 than I am 20 and sick of having no money so the motivation to grind has came back.

Goals
  • Grind out a roll playing micro/small stakes 6 max
  • Get out of my overdraft and save up some cash
  • Win £15k playing live cash next year

I only started playing again about 4 weeks ago. Mainly been playing 5nl/10nl fastforward on party and this is how it's been going.

Not bad but not great imo. Defiantly been playing way too aggro, everyone seems to fold too much tho, and I'm clearly pretty rusty.

On Thursday Partypoker are running a fasforward rake race so I'm going to go all out on that and I'm aiming for a top 5 finish.

And if any of the old UNL regs are about give us a shout

Hahaa they usually last a couple of weeks

So I've been re-thinking going for this party rake race. I ended up only play 1k hands on Thursday cause I went to my girlfriends instead and looking at the leaderboard I'm already way off pace.

If everyone keeps up the pace there keeping I'd have to play 12 hours a day both of the weekends and then 8 hours a day during the working week to even have a chance at the top 5 and I just don't have it in me. Like a played 8 hours yesterday and I already feel ****ed and I just play like a moron.

I'm mean just look at my graph so far. Its 500 hands playing well then another 1k just going mental. Zoom and fast fold table in general just seem to make me lose my ****, I end up take 0.5secs per decision no matter the hand it;s just silly.

Also the nittyness even starts to tilts me.

It's been suggested a I play Omaha instead. Looking at the above hand that might not be the best idea but I can't see myself getting far with NL, like 50nl is going to be the ceiling just now cause I the games a have past me by and it's clear I need to study it again but I'm not sure if it would even be worth the hour but a new game i'd probably enjoy learning more.

Sucks to start this thread off with a fail :P

Burn-out and playing C game over 8 hours+ are real things. Prob not worth it to try for the rake-race

Decided to give PLO a good try. Basically just seen how much softer the games were at the micro's compared to NLHE + think it'll be more interesting to try something different as trying to grind out NL just isn't as fun as it used to be.

This hand was the real decider tho

CO wins 201.6 BB

I withdrew my roll from party on Monday as I feel for learning it'll be much better to play on a site that will allow me to use a hud.

So today I did something that I swore years ago that I'd never do again and signed up to a site on the Ipoker network. Been pleasantly surprised so far. Only played a small session and the software is actually pretty nice. Got a nice sign up bonus and decent rackback which feels like a must for micro stakes PLO.

Current plan is to grind up at least $1000 on here then maybe look at moving to ACR.

Not really sure how other regs would react if they see you flat this or 3b this. I didn't actually look at villains hand when I wrote that so I guess it's fine hah. Pref hands that flop strong things often when you do 3bet

Yeah I just don't post about the work I've been putting in at holdem haha so it looks easier than it is

I think so, yeah. Variance is a bit nuts and I'm too old to be feeling depressed 50% of the time from work
