I have a Bankroll of around $200 dollars, with another $100 to be added due to a return on a staked player.
I have been mainly a losing player for the last few years, but have made more money than I have lost because of a few mtt scores. I have decided that a big change in attitude is key to me making any tracks in the poker world. I’m a LAG player, who has tried tightening up but with no avail, so I guess I’m stuck with the style. I play 6-max cash and both 6-max and full ring tournaments.
I hope to have job this summer from so I will only be putting in sessions after 18:30, so although I want to improve and work on my tourney game, I have to play cash during the week. I can still put in 4-5 hours a day, and I play up to 16 tables at a time. At weekends I will be more or less concentrating on tournaments.
My aims for this summer (June-August)
-Become a winning player: 25nl by the end of the summer
-Reach silver/gold status on stars - or iron man on full tilt
-Play and have a few good runs in the mini series of poker hosted by ftp
-Have a few 3 figure tourney scores.
-Take down a 4 figured score
-Become a more frequent poster and researcher on 2+2 - devote more time -to study, paying attention to the strategy forums. I want to spend an hour a day studying
-Keep disciplined - playing within my BRM, but permission to take shots at tournaments every so often
-Play in the Sunday Million - once my tourney game has improved
-Improve my live play, and play live on a weekly/fortnightly basis.
-Learn a new game, along with improve my PLO game.
I am applying a different bankroll management strategy to any one I have tried before. I find it hard to stick to my BRM limits so here is the strategy I will use:
Cash Games - I'm going to be conservative on the Cash front, using the 20-25bi rule
Tournaments - Most follow the 2% rule. I'm applying a 2-7.5% rule, with the aim of satelliting into bigger events.
SNGs I'm also planning on returning to SNGs if i can string together a decent role and will be using 35-50bi dependin on level i play at.
Feel free to comment, tell me my post was too long and boring, criticise (constructively please :P) or ask anything u dont understand.
As u can see guys I can talk a good game, I'll have to show everyone I'm capable of playing one too. My challenge starts monday.
I have some advice. Let me tell you a story first. I met somebody here at 2+2 and we've been talking on AIM. He has no job but a college degree. He complains about looking for a job but not accepting them cause he doesnt like having a boss. Im somewhat of a poker coach so I wanted to speak to him and help improve his game because I told him poker may be just what he's been looking for and he agreed with me. He has a $200 bankroll and he has had this for as long as Ive known him (probably 2 months). After showing him some calculations and trying to get him set up he refused to do as I told him to. He has a laptop so he says he's unable to play >8 tables and he personally would NOT play more than 4 tables at a time. He cherishes his $200 bankroll cause its all the money he's got. He also refuses to play anymore than 4 hours of poker a day (he does have a girlfriend and a social life). He spends his time playing 10NL. Needless to say I stopped speaking to him cause he wouldnt listen to me. I tried explaining why it is he has only had this $200 for so long and he's not making money. The reason being is because he needs to put in MORE TIME and MORE VOLUME. If he is a 2bb/100 winning player at 10NL, and only plays 2 tables at a time for a maximum of 4 hours a day, he's only profiting $2 a day from 10NL (50 cents an hour).
So my advice to you if you want to make any sort of income and grow your bankroll you want to put in thousands of hands each day. You must understand realistic expectations. Some players after a few hundred hands of a given xNL have a winning rate of 10bb/100. This is NOT going to be their long-term profits but they think they can consistently earn this. Until they have a losing streak and see that figure drop to 1bb/100. Even over 50k hands there are large fluctuations to bb/100.
You seem like a person who is devoted to making this happen. You can as long as you understand some things. If you're going to play 10NL how much do you plan on making? If you have never recorded your results and analyzed your game then this would be a good place to start. You want to know how you perform at these stakes. A lot of players have a tough time beating 25NL even if they are a winning player at 10NL or even in 1000NL in real life. So go download Poker Tracker 3 its free for 60 days. Play 16 tables and put in 4 hours a day that would be 5,000 hands a day you put in with full ring. If you're playing 10NL and can win at 2bb/100 (which is fair) then you would profit $20 a day. So playing 10NL cash without moving up to 25NL you would have $2,000 in <4 months (this includes taking the weekends off). If you do not perform 2bb/100 at 10NL over 50k-100k hands you'll want to seek advice for improving your game. With rakeback you'll reach the $2000 mark in 3 months and if you move up to 25NL when reaching $500, in 2 months.
As others have mentioned SNG would make you more money and they are right. But your goals are small and you can accomplish them with what you put forth here. And you should be able to much much sooner than by end of the year. So I suggest sticking with 10NL as your primary job and play the MTT on the weekends. This would be a piece of cake.
