HU Hyper-Turbo SNGs: $1.50s - $1000s

Hi 2+2,

I have created this thread so that people can follow me on my journey up the HU Hyper-Turbo SNG ladder. I will be starting from the very bottom at the $1.50s and aim to one day be playing the $1000s. I will keep everyone updated with graphs and bankroll pics.

Bankroll Management

I will be using a bankroll management system of moving up when I have 20 buy-ins for the next level and moving down if I drop to 15 buy-ins. I understand this is a very aggressive bankroll management system but I believe that if one is strict with moving down then there should be little chance of going bust. The challenge will of course be not dropping 20 buy-ins at the $1.50s as there is no level to move down to. Here is a picture of my starting bankroll of $30 which is 20 buy-ins for the $1.50s:

Wish me luck.

Cheers,

hman1992

So a 20 BI downswing busts the roll? Yeah, this should go well.

Chuck another zero on the roll and then start!

Re: HU Hyper-Turbo SNGs: $1.50s - $1000s

Bankroll: $46.56

Thanks for the support guys. I got the challenge started by playing a session of 60 games and fortunately I was running well. I managed to make $16.56 profit running at an ROI of 18.40. Here is my graph and stats for the first session of the challenge:

I have decided to set myself a goal of playing 750 games a month averaging out at 25 a day. I have a full time job which makes finding time to grind consistently quite difficult, however I believe this volume should be achievable.

Cheers,

Re: HU Hyper-Turbo SNGs: $1.50s - $1000s

Bankroll: $46.80

So since my last update I have played 140 more games and made a profit of $0.24. It has been a frustrating few days to say the least.

Here is my graph and statistics for the challenge so far:

I feel like my general play has been fairly good, however I have been doing some work off the tables to spot any leaks which may explain the recent downswing. Hopefully my game turns around soon and we can get the challenge heading back in the right direction.

Cheers,

Hi guys, I was hoping someone could give me some advice on this hand. No reads or stats on villain. Would really appreciate any advice on the best way to play this. Are you calling, raising or folding this river?

Thanks in advance.

It works for cash games, why not the most variance filled variant of poker!

You think HU Hypers are the games with the highest variance? lol

Ok in all seriousness, I understand that the general consensus is that you should have at least 50 buy-ins to play HU Hypers. However, as long as you can beat the lowest level and are happy to move down stakes when you drop to a certain number of buy-ins for a level then surely there is little chance of going bust?

A lot of people follow the rule move up at 50 buy-ins and move down when you drop to 35 buy-ins for a level. This means they drop down after losing 30% of their roll. I move down after losing 25% of my roll so my rule is more conservative. I figure that this method I will make more money when I am on a heater and limit my losses when I am on a downswing.

Happy to discuss/debate.

Why not play with 10 buyins and move down when you hit 8? Drop down when you've lost only 20% of your roll, superconservative can't go broke!
... I mean come on. Yes there's lots of variance in hypers, more so in headsup, your BRM is wildly agressive and you are very likely to go bust.
That said, gl

It's just that a 20 BI downer isn't improbable, I'd guess during the course of the year nearly every HU Hyper grinder is going to have that sort of swing.

HU is the lowest variance form of hypers, not the highest. I appreciate we disagree on this however I'm going to stick with it. There is a chance you will be proven right. We will have to wait and see.

Cheers for wishing me luck.

Btw guys I thrive on challenge. Don't give me a reason to have to prove you all wrong. When I do your reputations will be left in tatters. I can see it now:

Random guy 1: "Hey remember that guy acbarone, what ever happened to him?"

Random guy 2: "Well apparently he told hman1992 that building a roll on 20 buy-ins couldn't be done."

Random guy 1: "What the guy who now plays high-stakes hypers? pfff embarrassing."

Random guy 2: "Yeh I know, lol. Last I heard he was banished from 2+2 and was scrounging around the cardschat challenge forum telling micro stakes guys he used to be a poo-bah in 2+2."

Random guy 1: "Man that's brutal. Couldn't have happened to a nicer bloke."

Acbarone you have been warned! This is the beginning of the end for you!
