Cheers bro. I'm currently playing in the best poker game on the face of the earth, undeniably true. We've had it all in every single hand at least 3-way for the last 2.5 hours. Down about $1700 so far but super glad to be here lol

Yeah so far I've got AAxx in pre twice, first time 750 deep, got 4 callers and we run it twice, would have been a $2.8k pot but I haven't won anything yet. Then I get QQ9Tddss in pre next hand and brick it too. Luckily the holdem orbits are almost as spazzy so patience there and hopefully I can work my way back.
08-27-2017 , 04:17 AM
Update: I get AAxx in 4way for like $250, flop A high and quadruple up. $1k deep now gameplan is to play a little wider in PLO and still wait my spots in nlh.

Edit: just got it in on turn $1k deep 3 way with two nut flush draws and a nut oesd in Omaha, win 2/3 and we're sat at $1900, GL us.

What's fold? Not sure if rake is considered or not but that's a pretty big factor in live...

Re tonight, boys let's just say, we ****ing did it! Heading to the gym now, full update and month review to come!

Daily Update - Sun 27 Aug 2017

Hours Played: 5.7
Profit: $1,075

Notes: WE DID IT! WE GOT OUT OF THE HOLE TO SAVE THE MONTH! So stoked rn... Sickest hand of the night coming up...

Hand 1

Hero limps or opens UTG w/ AQJQ, can't remember action but flop goes multiway, fairly bloated...

Flop: 69T

Flop checks round.

Turn: 69T4

Can't remember whether hero leads or x-jams, but we end up allin on the turn - three way. Pretty dream spot here for hero... Two flush draws and an OESD... Turns out villain who covers hero has like a king high diamond draw and is practically drawing dead to hero, other guy has 78 but he's short so w/e.

Anyway, we run it thrice, hero gets there two of three to win a $1,900 pot.

In terms of other hands, I get AAKXddss in on JT9dd in a bloated pot and we run it three times and hero scoops all three (vs top set and a straight, nice to run good here although it was a smaller pot).

---------------------

But let's just talk about today's session for a bit. I expected the game to be good because of the fight, everyone was hyped because of that but I had no idea how crazy this game would be. I wasn't joking when I said it was THE best poker game on the planet - I don't think that's hyperbole at all because I doubt a better game existed this afternoon... For the first 2-3 hours, every single hand, and I mean EVERY SINGLE HAND was all-in MINIMUM of three-way. In both the PLO & NLH orbits. Guys with $2k stacks going all-in in the dark. It was a 2/5 but more often than not it was a 2/5/10/20...

There's two tables running in this place, a 5/10 PLO and our 2/5NLH/PLO Rotation game. The 5/10 PLO regs were super jealous because our game was so much juicier - LITERALLY EVERY ****ING HAND WAS ALL-IN. Had guys rock up, buy in for $500, stick it in the middle, lose, rebuy, stick it in again, rebuy, rinse and repeat - this one bloke managed to lose $4k in about 30 minutes.

And there I am with my $250-$300 stack, waiting patiently for a hand I can go with. In the PLO orbits, I got AAxx in twice during this crazy period. Every board was run twice. One time I won one of the boards and this got me up to $750. The next hand I get AAxx again, stick it in, and get called by 4 players who have me covered... $3k in the middle easy. Unfortunately, AAxx 5-way has very little equity and I managed to brick all of these. Rebuy, rebuy, rebuy... Down $1,350 at one point. But stuck to my guns, stuck to my strat, and managed to get out of the hole.

Funnily enough, it wasn't until two of the biggest action players start doing coke a few hours later that the game slows down and I find myself with $2k in a 2/5PLO/NLH rotation game. Still juicy, but very big at this stage and I'm definitely not rolled to sit $2k deep in any PLO orbit, so I call my hour and cash out at about 8pm. Absolute madness it was. One of the blokes on the 5/10 had north of $15k in front of him after a few hours in a 2k max buyin game. At about 8pm, there was a $6k stack on our table too.

----------------

Anyway, enough about today. Month review incoming in next post.

MONTHLY REVIEW - 28 JULY - 27 AUG

Hours Played: 177.8
Profit: $1,602

Volume:

Okay, first thing's first. Let's address the volume. 178 hours. That's about 40-41 hours per week. EXCELLENT. For a while there I was worried - spending hours each night on the waiting list at the casino, was wondering whether I could even get 40 hours a week in in Brisbane. But we pulled through and got it done easy.

Profit:

I cannot tell you how incredibly happy I am to finish in the green for the month. I am simply ecstatic. I couldn't have asked for a worse possible start to my pro career... First week, five sessions, five losses. Immediately $4k in the hole. So to finish up $1.6k and to be able to say I'm 1 for 1 in terms of winning months, cannot describe how good that feels. If I sat at home for the entirety of week 1, we'd have finished up about $6k.

Variance:

Obviously, this month has been a shocker. The stupidest start to things - was card dead and drawing dead for an entire week. In terms of all-in EV, I'm waaay under EV for the month as well.

Mental Game:

This past month has been so much fun. I've absolutely LOVED the lifestyle I currently have. I've not been this happy my entire life. Nothing more to say. I'll admit, however, after week one, I had a few niggling doubts - but it was never enough to cause me any major issues. Started meditating which is cool and it's something I'll be focusing much more on in the coming month.

Gym & Health:

Feeling really good of late. Looking leaner than I've looked in years. Starting to really like how my body is looking again now that I'm slowly getting rid of that belly fat. I'd say I'm between 10-15% BFP now. I'm training fasted which is working wonders and I'll definitely keep doing that. Maintaining/developing muscle and losing fat at the same time which is dope.

================================================

In terms of monthly goals, I didn't set any? Must have forgotten to.

GOALS FOR SEPTEMBER:

[ ] - Spendings! - This needs to get back under control. I want to spend no more than $500 a week on average, that's $2k a month effectively, a little more. Went crazy re spendings this past month and I can't keep going like that. So we must limit ourselves to the $500. Quick breakdown of expenses: $300 a week rent/bills, $16 a week gym membership, $100 food/necessities/coffee fund, $84 dollars remaining for socialising maybe once every other week. Must be real disciplined on that front.
[ ] - Meditation! - This needs to be way more consistent. Every morning when I get up, I need to do this. Even just 10 minutes.
[ ] - Sleep! - Set an alarm and ****ing stick to it lol... Keep sleeping in every day - yeah it's simply incredible to have the freedom to just stay in bed and not do anything, but I can be more productive with my day by not oversleeping.
[ ] - Volume! - Minimum 175 hours again... Will be stoked if I can get more than that in but I won't force it.
[ ] - Gym! Better consistency! This will come off the back of not oversleeping. If I finish a game at 4am, and have a game starting at 6pm the next day, I can't just get up at 5pm and go to the game and ignore gym like I have done a couple times this past week. Needs to be consistent. 5 times a week minimum.
[ ] - Poker strat! - Immerse myself into the best possible games consistently. If that means I need to play a rotation game (1/2PLO, 2/5NLH) that's full of absolute droolers, even if it means buying in short, then that's what I will endeavour to do. Continue posting hands and asking questions here about pre-flop stuff like the KTo CC from SB situation... I want the focus this month to be on pre-flop strategy... The sooner I figure out what is optimal, the better. I want to practice overlimping more, staying v tight from EP, finding better spots with marginal broadways (KTo/KJo/AJo/ATo type hands that get us into trouble).

Just read the whole thread and subbed. Super interesting stuff, as I'm really passionate about the mental side of things. Awesome job getting out of the whole and hanging in there through the bad beats. Important thing is to just keep playing solid poker and to not chase the losses, which you seem to be doing well enough at.

Thanks bud for subbing. Hope you enjoy month 2's roller coaster ride.

congrats on the positive month man, keep it going!

Super stoked you finished up strong this month, was reading this thread like it was a new season of breaking bad!

As for K10o in SB I think it plays extremely poorly as a call and a 3bet especially with 100bb+ stacks. Just give it up, no-one knows you are making that fold and its just not good enough from that position.
08-27-2017 , 06:12 PM
nice dude, on track and got the confidence to back it. To the moon

Nice comeback. With the first month down, what advice would you give to yourself 40 days ago?

That's a good question. And to be honest, I think I was really well prepared from the beginning and prepared even to handle an immediate downswing. So I would say "avoid the ***** casino!" - so much better money to be made in home games and its lower rake and free food, no waitlists etc.

Ik that's not the answer you were looking for but it's all I got. Obv If I could have come into this thing with another 5 buyins I'd have done it but that really wasn't an option at the time.

Fascinating stuff. GGWP, obviously (esp the volume). I think your monthly goals for the upcoming month are spot on. I was wondering if I could offer any advice, when I reviewed your summary and thought hell no...I would just be repeating what you already said about strat.

Run good

PS

with all my usual, I'm no live player caveats...

Picking up on the KTo thing...I would have thought with so many XPLO spots in this environment, many of your 3bets will be linear and KTo would be way too light for a legit linear 3bet no???

Thanks man, good to know you're here to keep me in line! I appreciate your advice always. Glad you think the goals look decent.

Re the KTo, I couldn't have put it better myself. Our linear 3b range here will be quite narrow and I don't want all offsuit combos of junk in there.

What annoys me is when you see the **** people are opening the btn with, like 79o, you feel like you're being exploited for folding KTo. But tbh I think it's alright to be exploited as long as we play back vs the super wide guys with some sort of respectable frequency.

when i was playing live i used to play premium hands only and i had 40bb/100+ over a large sample^^
08-28-2017 , 05:01 AM
I mean I'm a cash game ****** but with the rake you're paying in aus it just has to be okay to be a nit and fold in those spots, even if you are getting exploited a tiny bit.

Yeah, it just blows I guess having to revert to such a basic strategy after putting in so many hours studying ranges and stuff like bvb spots for the online game. But you're dead right, tight in lolllsnl is right.

Yeah hunnet percent. And it allows us to make less mistakes too which is nice.

Yeah it is a bit of a bummer. But tbh money matters, the relatively sad thing in rec heavy games is that not overthinking and keeping things in line leads to great money and lower variance. Completely different experience to when you battled against some regs in the zoompool just for the bant

So true my dude, so true.

===============================================

So I woke up this morning, later than I had planned. I said last night that I wanted to stick to a time and get up and begin my day but to be fair, the quality of sleep I've been having has been rather poor to the extent that I feel super tired when my first alarm goes off. This is because I'm restless at night in bed. I can't fall asleep and find myself listening to lectures or podcasts to pass the time. And then when I drift off... I'm still listening to this stuff and it prevents me from actually falling asleep and getting a good night's sleep! I might be in bed for 8-10 hours, but in terms of proper REM sleep, I might only get a few hours.

So anyway, I eventually got up and took my car to the wreckers. Got my $200 for it, went to the city and did a spot of book shopping with the proceeds. Found a book shop with a huuuuuuuuge philosophy section which is absolutely awesome. I told myself I want to curb my spending, but I was freerolling from the car money I suppose. So spent $50 on lunch and a book, of which I hope to share some with you... the book not my lunch... and I'll put the other $150 into savings. Got to the gym despite not at all feeling like it. Today's been a rather pleasant day off - I'm going to spend the evening reading books and maybe watching Netflix, miiiiiiiight see this chick again if I/she can be f'd.

Tomorrow will regrettably be a casino grind with no homegames running. I plan to get up, head to the gym for some deadlifts/back work and then hit it up.

There's a 5/10 NLH on at the Penthouse on Thursday... from what I heard it played more like a 5/10/20/40 for a decent chunk last week... $500-$2000 buyin. Very juicy game. I'm going to hunt around to see if I can find someone to buy action in me, otherwise Thurs will likely end up a casino grind too -___-.
08-28-2017 , 07:37 AM
lol...

working thru Janda's latest book and I see he gives a shout out to Thinking Fast, Thinking Slow in it

Just to be clear...I'm not Janda in disguise
