Re: How to Be Happy as a Live Pro

Boys we came soooo unbelievably close to saving the month. All in with 60% equity on the last hand of the night in a 4bet pot, $1300 in the middle, gets all in on the flop, run it three times and lose them all! Even if we win 2/3 runs there I think we save the month...

Walking home from the casino now, full update on the sickest hand I've played in the entire month, as well as a full monthly update incoming. I've got a big ****ing bag of Doritos and I'm gonna do a big ****ing write up.

Re: How to Be Happy as a Live Pro

Daily Update - Thur 24 Aug 2017

Hours Played: 10
Profit: $190

Notes: Played the sickest hand of my life tonight. Yesterday marks 4 weeks since I began tracking on here, so we'll get a weekly report up coming through shortly. Initially I thought four weeks equated to one month, but turns out I started playing on the 28th of last month, so we still have three or so days week in the month! So no monthly update just yet.

Anyway, a question I have... Say it's about 7-8 handed, folds to BTN who is a fairly aggressive player, he opens to $15, hero in SB has KTo, what we do??? I'm fine with all three options, wondering if anyone knows what's good when we expect a live population to over-cbet - feel like our call here burns money...

Anyway, onto the HAND OF THE DAY/WEEK/PROB MONTH:

Table's about 7 handed or so, maybe 6...

Hero ($1400) opens AA to $15 from EP, excellent reg OTB 3bets to $55, spazz ($500) in SB cold calls the $55, BB ($600) also cold calls the $55, back to hero who is absolutely licking his lips... At the time I thought this was the final day of the month... it's about 4am, game's slowly breaking, I might only have a couple orbits left. Hero is up maybe $600 but needs to book a ~$800 win to save the month... This is the hand, here we go boys...

Hero thinks for a while before 4betting to $235. I think the size is good because it reflects how deep hero and BTN are. BTN is the type of guy who talks strat with hero a lot and knows I have 4bet bluffs here... BTN calls, SB calls, BB folds. What. The. ****.

Flop ($762): 258

****ing mint. If BTN has QQ, we probably stack him here. SB has any two cards, I'm not worried about him. This is as good of a flop as we can get here. LOVING life. Check, Hero cbets $275 leaving himself with about $890 - if I get one caller, there will be about $1,312 in the middle, leaving us with a nicely jammable stack...

BTN folds (later tells us he had AKs and was incredibly close to jamming -_-) but SB calls for his remaining $215.

So final pot is $1,212, we win this baby, we're in the green for the month. A literal miracle. Villain is one of the juiciest players in Brisbane. Notorious for punting off a lot of money. Unfortunately he is probably 3-4 buyins above EV against hero THIS MONTH ALONE.

Of course, villain shows 36 for a gut shot and flush draw. We agree to run it thrice. In true hero vs this villain fashion, he gets there all three times... Absolutely brutal. Such a dream spot. If BTN shoves pre, we win a $3k pot and are absolutely #livingthedream.

Most annoying +$190 victory I'll ever have. The good news is, we actually have Sat and Sun left in the month to try get even... We're approx down only $700 ish for the month! Cannot tell you how good it'd feel to run well and get into the black after the next two days!

Weekly Review...Last Fri to Thurs 24th

Hours played: 33.3
Profit: $2,299

Only one losing session this past week. Poor volume is slack but can be explained!!!

Story time:

So my Tinder date last week fell through but I managed to get myself a different Tinder date... I met one of my neighbours who is good friends with my room mate. Pretty Asian thing (shouts to those with the yellow fever, pics below)... Anyway my roomy warned me about her, she's bipolar and fairly crazy... Just my type. Immediately reminded me of my high school girlfriend, just her mannerisms etc. She was also bipolar and extremely crazy.

Anyhow, I get up on Thursday arvo, head to the gym, come home and shower, getting ready to head to the casino... then my room mate, one of his friends, and this girlie rock up to my living room with pizza. I'm sitting there eating my oatmeal as I do. Anyhow, my room mate and his friend leave to go find his friend's car keys or some ****, and it's just me and this chicky babe left. We're talking about her family, upbringing, how she can see ghosts, etc etc... normal crazy chick stuff, yanno. Anyway, fast forward an hour, my room mate and his friend walk into the apartment, the lights are off, only 4 candles are lit on the table in the living room, me and this girl are sat opposite each other, my hands in her, attempting to summon a demon via seance... Standard stuff... So things are going well... except we're interrupted and can't continue our ouija board practice in my apartment anymore... (Room mate has done too much DMT and ain't cool with spooky ****)...

So me n this girl head down the hall to her place... I immediately get the feeling I won't be going to the casino tonight... We decide to walk to the store and buy some cider, come back, and literally Netflix and chill for a few hours...

Anyway, manage to bag her later that night, we both had to shower twice, was a thorough night's work... Absolute freak in bed she was, could get used to this being called daddy thing tbh... Since I stayed the night at hers, my room mate, who had earlier warned me about this girl, messages me in the morning like "Did you **** Rachael?" to which I obv respond "No comment" and he replies with "Ha, you're in trouble now"... So we'll see where this rabbit hole leads over the coming weeks I suppose! Turns out she is on Tinder too, she showed me her profile and I showed her mine... apparently my problem has been the fact that all my pics are with random girls and it makes me look like a ****boy and that I'd have more success if I fixed that... What a good lass! Pics of girl below...

Spoiler:

So tomorrow Penthouse may or may not get up, but Sunday we'll definitely get a Penthouse game in - maybe NLH or might be rotation. PS, I just wanna remark how sick this Penthouse game is... Had a topless waitress tonight, absolute ****ing 10 walking around, super distracting. And there's free coke out the back on a Friday night as well. It's actually so iconic. Fight day Sunday, will be super fun. Tomorrow I wanna get to the gym and a session in at casino if Penthouse doesn't run. In terms of volume for the month, we're already at 166 hours, which is effectively 40 hours per week already, but will definitely want to get two more good sessions in to put us just over the volume target and to get some good reps in while the games should be easy over the weekend. And see if we can get in the green lol. That's all for now folks!

So your live poker development still has a long ways to go but crazy ghost seeing asian game is on point 10/10 no leaks to be found there.

Fold the KTo. Dont force things.

Work still to be done indeed! What's the bottom of your SB cc range there btw?

Re: How to Be Happy as a Live Pro

The sb still sucks, even in live poker where no one has a clue. Its actually even more challenging bc usually you will have anywhere from 10 to 15 people to act after you.

I have the least experience with your example, bc below 5/10 if it folds to button the button allows players to chop 90% of the time. Ive seen AKs muck here regularly (im talking like last week)

So the people who raise button when it folds to them are usually better players or someone with a very strong holding. Im not looking to play with either.

This will get flamed like crazy and the words arent exactly what i mean but in live poker there are TONS of times where you can literally "wait for better spots"

Re: How to Be Happy as a Live Pro

I can't remember what stakes you usually play are, but for 2/3 I don't think I would fold to £15 especially vs a guy like that, and I don't think its close.

We're risking 13 to win 20 (granted the BB is behind) but KTo is going to play fine. Ccing sb is a really poor play if a) your opponent is good enough to take advantage of you being quote unquote "capped" b) BB aggressively squeezing.

If those don't apply then I would call, from my experience people open the BTN way wider than thy should have so KTo plays perfectly fine flopping a pair or gutshot of some kind. It's just a super easy hand to defend and play vs a wide BTN range.

In a 1/3 or 1/2 I would fold; folding is ok if you're in a downswing, yes it's not going to be super profitable and 100% see your point about not forcing it, but do think its a cal

tl;dr I cawww

I'm pretty much on board with this too.

One huge thing that I think OP has to take into affect that is probably being ignored in these spots is (iiirc) the *massive* rake in his game. Dicking around in these small pots OOP against perhaps a non-fish is likely not profitable.

Re: How to Be Happy as a Live Pro

Yeh the point about the rake I think makes defending KTo probably less good. Feel like I'll just hit a flop 1/3 the time, and face a cbet about 100% of the time. With rake I'm not sure it's going to win at -200bb/100.

Cheers all for the comments!!!

@tellypl, it was so unreal... Earlier in the night some dude got KJo in on a KJ7r flop vs AA, he ran it thrice and lost all 3 to running counterfeit hahahha

Aces hand is fine, whatever. I dont mind cbetting even smaller given its a 4bet pot and its impossible for BTN to have you beat, and any hand the SB has that is beating you (55,67s etc) will jam no matter what you bet, but by betting 200 you may be able to induce more. Also i really like betting 200 exactly becuase the SB ''just has to put in two chips''. Vs a loose player like this the psychology of just 2 chips to call is important
Out of interest, is there a way to figure out what the best number of times to run it is?

Re: How to Be Happy as a Live Pro

Also, with the KTo, i think this is a 3bet. Hand doesnt play well as a call, plays bad post and plays bad multi-way, but it has good removal and you can get better hands to fold

I get your overall strategy is to play tight which is obviously good, but at some point you have to use your skill and maximise your postflop edge, and playing vs an aggressive player OTB is as good a time as any to make a move.

Hey mate, yeh flop my concern was less about SB but rather setting up a size so that BTN can be happy about calling a turn jam. But yeh, anything from $150-300 otf I think is fine. We have the nuts.

I always try to run it as many times as the opponent will allow. Basically just for variance reduction which is nice in big pots.

Yeeeah it could be. I am not sure whether we 3b KJo and let KTo go pre, but all options seem really close agreed.

If you want to be somewhat balanced AND have a little more equity, 3 bet KJs and KTs and fold the unsuited ones.

Yeah it's kinda awk because the suited variety play fine mw in the srp, the whole idea of three betting the offsuit ones is to capitalise on FE so that we don't need to win post as often. But yeah, ATM I'm mixing in some IP 3bets with hands like KTo/KJo in the best spots but OOP with a blind v LP dynamic I think 3betting less might be best. But yeah think I'll lead toward folding the offsuit ones in this spot and 3!/calling the suited ones.

Re: How to Be Happy as a Live Pro

Daily Update - Sat 26 Aug

Hours played: 5.7
Profit: $1,250

Notes: Quick session tonight to get some sleep in before the Sunday session. Tomorrow's game starts early because of the fight, should be a juicy night. I wanted to go to the gym today but think rn sleeping is more important because I need to be playing in 9.5 hours.

Going to try get up earlyish so I can go to the gym, get some breakfast, and then hop to my final day of the month!

PS: with tonight's win, were OFFICIALLY IN THE GREEN for the month. Can't believe it tbh, after being down like $4-$4.5k after a single week, thought it would be impossible to book a win. However, let's not speak too soon as I still have tomorrow to pull it back to the red.

Tonight, I hit sets and got paid. Nothing else to it. Here's hoping we can book another W tomorrow.

Talk soon.

I fold KTo as a default.

If you can estimate his btn opening freq and f3b freq I'd adjust based on that.\

I'm unlikely to call.

Re: How to Be Happy as a Live Pro

So today's game is about to start... It's currently heads up, they're playing 10/10 PLO while we wait for more players. There's a 5/10 PLO running as well. When a few more arrive, we'll be playing a 2/5NLH+2/5PLO rotation. Initially I thought the PLO Rotation would be 1/2 but turns out it's bigger. I'll buy in for $300 because I think a small spr will really favour my tighter style in both the nlh and PLO when there's so many spazzy action players.

My PLO Strat will be to play extremely snug, try get as much in pre with AA while I'm shorter stacked. And then when deeper, nut mine. I'm extremely confident in my PLO game esp in this lineup. My PLO results to date are actually far, far better than my NLH ones. And I think playing a $250-$300 stack, 3betting AA and getting it in on flops will be fairly profitable as a Strat. It also helps reduce variance fairly well in a game I'm not exactly rolled for. I've also just been told that a straight NLH might get up later this evening so if that happens, I'll jump ship and play that unless there's stupid money to be made in the rotation game.

So last session of the first month of my pro career, let's hope it's a good one lads! GL me!
