How doable is making a living off of poker? How doable is making a living off of poker?

Let's give a little bit of context to the situation.

I live in Spain where rake is around 6% on PS, it's kind of lame but whatever.

I used to play poker in the small stakes years ago and I made what you could call a small side income, but I consider myself pretty novice at the game.

I then got discouraged with all the rake increases which made me lose hope in the long term of the game, I haven't played for 4-5 years.

On the other hand, these years I've been playing a lot of different card games (Magic the gathering and such) and I've been able to rank higher than top 50 players in Europe (out of millions probably) in most of those games consistently, which makes me think if I put in the work I could become really really good at poker.

Since I'm 100% out of the loop, in your experience and what you see in the community right now, how doable is it to make a small living off of it let's say in the following 6 months? 1000$/month would do since I can still live at my moms and here in Spain I don't need much to pay for pretty much everything I need.

Also, if I were to attempt to make it, should I try cash, sit n go's, tournaments?

Also, I know back in the day it was very doable, but my questions are referring specifically to 2020

It's a pretty terrible career choice for anyone who lives in a first world country, unless you're already beating mid stakes or think you could be beating it within 2-3 years time.

This is just my opinion though. Others may disagree.

I wouldn't go about it unless you were confidently beating 200nl and up at large samples and have a ton of savings, like a couple years worth to be really safe.

I am personally a bit of a life nit and that's just me but being broke really sucks so it would probably be wise to be absolutely certain you have a high chance of success.

If you haven't played for 4-5 years you are admittedly a little behind the curve as to what kind of new strategies have replaced the ones that were more prominent. Some things are the same though, but the game has evolved a lot since pio came out around then. But nothing is impossible if you have drive and put in the volume and study. And consider that others are doing this as well in addition to already being hip to a lot of the new strategies, so you can see how difficult it is. But again, it is not impossible. People make high stakes still. Not as many, but the pool does change/grow
