Welcome everybody.

I'm 31 years old and moving to Phnom Penh, Cambodia soon. To be precise, on 26th of august im flying to Bangkok. Staying there for a couple of nights and then going to Phnom Penh.

Why Cambodia?

Initially I wanted to go to Thailand, play poker and live there for some time. I know there are a lot of grinders in Thailand and it's probably no big deal to live there and play poker (as long as you're not getting caught), but I don't know, I am just a bit paranoid about that ****. So for now I've decided to go to Phnom Penh instead, which seems not too bad from what I've read and seen so far in Blogs and on Youtube.

How long?

I'm planning to stay there for one year. Then it is time to re-evaluate my situation. My life roll will be roughly 6k, giving me at least 7 to 8 months, living on a budget of approximately 700$ per month. Hoping to make a buck or two in poker to extend my time to at least one year.

About me

I'm 31 years old and I'm from Germany. Got introduced to poker on christmas 2006 playing a live NL SNG with some friends and somehow instantly fell in love with this game. Shortly after created my first online account at Party, got some affiliate money and started DONKING around. Had my first big heater in fall of 2008, where I made like 10k in two months playing NL Cashgame. Cashed out most of it, because I just moved to a new place and wanted to treat myself with some nice furniture. But I was hooked to poker from that time on and always had at least a small roll to grind micro-low stakes. An absolute degen friend of mine soon introduced me to PLO, where he was having some good results at the time and after I tested the water I was hooked myself. Four cards instead of two, there is no way I'm ever going to play NL Cashgame again I thought to myself and that's exactly how it went down since this day. Except the live NL SNG's with friends here and there. To be honest, I had very little success with PLO Cashgames in the first like 3 years. Had some RL **** going on at that time too, so my focus on poker was not as big as it used to be. Things changed in 2012, when I had my first big PLO heater where I made about 15k grinding myself all the way up from PLO2 to PLO100. Obv lost half of it back and then did the ragetilt/scared cashout to not lose everything. I did this again and again over the next four years. Always grinding myself up from the bottom, then suddenly all hell broke lose, I lost a decent portion again and cashing out some, giving myself a small break and re-starting that cycle. Nowadays I know, that all this time I've still been a huge donk and haven't had much of a clue what I was doing. But I feel that changed in recent times. I've worked on my game a lot and I want one last serious shot at poker. I always dreamed about making it in poker, being a succesfull mid-high stakes grinder and that dream is pretty much still alive in myself.

So in recent times, I thought a lot about my life and I came to the conclusion, that I HAVE to give it one last serious shot. I've always wanted to make it, but I've never put in that effort, that you need to put in, especially in the last like two or three years, where making it in poker has not become easier.

I've quit my job and I'm in the process to sell all my stuff.

This **** is going down for real!

My starting poker roll is 1000$. I'm going to start at Zoom 10.

Bankrollmanagement will be as following:

1500$ - 20 stacks for shot @ Zoom-25
2500$ - 20 stacks for shot @ Zoom-50
5000$ - 25 stacks for shot @ Zoom-100
10000$ - 25 stacks for shot @ Zoom-200
22500$ - 25 stacks for shot @ Zoom-500

So, the decision to do this as far as possible away from home should be best. Completely concentrating on the task. Sure, there will be some distractions in Phnom Penh (thread title), but that's manageable as far as I'm concerned.

Will be an adventure, no matter what the outcome is. If I fail, so what, then I go back home with the memory that I lived one year in Asia, basically trying everything in my power to make a dream come true. No regrets on that.

So far, that's all the details you need to know. Hope a few people will join me on my adventure, talking strategy or cambodian women.

So, as a matter of fact I just played my first session. I will obv already start playing in the five weeks I have left here at home. Maybe climb up to get my first PLO25 shot. We'll see. So, like I said, first session is in the books:



Pretty much satisfied with the way I played.

People might ask themselfs: WHY DF is he even playing on Stars and on top of that WHY Zoom ? Well you're right, the recent Stars rakeback changes are absolutetly fcked up and Zoom might be harder than regular tables but for me personally it's all about comfort. In that regard, Stars Zoom is untouchable for me. I've played at Party again in the last weeks but man, this software is fckn tilting me right off the bat. When I'm most comfortable while playing, I obv play my best game and because of that I don't give a shht about rakeback. I rather concentrate on playing my A+ game all the way. Sure rakeback on top of that would be the best, but yeah I live with the current situation as it is.

Some hands:

Double-suited I threebet, single-suited just calling. Thought about stabbing the turn, but it's too lose. River I just think nobdy has anything or something they could call with. If BB or UTG has the nutflush I think they would bet the river and I think BTN would bet the turn with nfd trying to get the pot after nobody showed strengh so far. I block the 9 and the T and so I went for a decent size bet, trying to make sure smaller flushes will fold. Calling there with J high flush is burning money big time when someone bets into three other people on a paired board.

Could go either way preflop I think. Lower-variance call or higher-variance 3bet. Played somewhat taggish with lower 3bet the whole session so I went with the call. Villain plays 21/4/0 with 2 AF in 69 hands, but I remember when I played the hand against him his stats were way loser, must be at the beginning he played some hands and then tightened up. Turn I thought his potbet there is somehow strange, so I decided to call and re-evaluate rivers depending on his action. So on the 8 I don't think he would bet his overpairs. I don't even think he would bet any straight and if so not this big, given my call of his strong potbet on the turn. I didn't show strengh at any time in the hand, my hand looks like an overpair with maybe gutshot, flushdraw or something like that, that missed and will check/fold the river. Trips with mid-high kicker he will also check I think. So either 77xx, maybe 74xx, 84xx or nothing. Felt pretty much in the zone while analyzing this hand when it was played, so the call just felt right.

Ok. One I think I missplayed badly on the river. Pre this deep oop I don't like 4betting. Double-suited I would 4bet. I think Flop and Turn are pretty standart. But my river play is kinda facepalm in retrospect. Donking a small blockish amount size and folding to a raise is the play to make right. I have no idea why I donk shoved the river. I remember I saw a coaching video one time, where the guy said when you are oop on the river and you would check/call a shove then you could just shove yourself. But I don't know, seems not so good in that spot.

I found a nice looking studio apartment, that will cost me about 400-450$ a month. Looks very nice, they told me to contact them as soon as I'm on site.

I hope this is legit. Monthly gym fees in Phnom Penh are really expensive, compared to germany. There is a nice gym I found called "The Place", but it's like 180$ per month or 600$ for 6 months. So it's cool, that the apartment place has a "gym" area, but I don't know if that's enough for working out properly if you're not just doing cardio training. We'll see.

I've been living in Cambodia the last year grinding Zoom Plo myself, came here after travelling and had a much smaller life roll than you currently do.

First 5 months I was grinding on the Ipad, that's not recommended! Many hookers have already been funded, and hopefully many more to come (Although I'm not sure about the stars zoom part after the recent changes)

Could you describe your expirience in Phnom Penh in a few sentences? From what I've seen and read, it's really developing at a fast pace. New bars, hotels and stuff all over the place now in comparison to a few years back. From the Youtube Vlogs I've seen so far, there is a really cool, chilled vibe in PP. Locals seem very friendly and open to foreigners, almost anybody can speak english to a certain extend.

That's what I call commitment. Grinding on the Ipad to fund the hooker lifestyle. Hats off, as GTO as it gets.

Just finished my Session for wednsday. Dug myself out of a semi-deep hole, so that feels pretty good. Strangely this happens almost always when I start grinding right after getting up. I did quit the session after 5 BI's down, did some other stuff, went to the gym, ate good and then continued the grind. I'm way more focused/in the zone when I do it like that. So that's how I will do it from now on. No grinding right after getting up anymore. Listened to Gangstarr - The Ownerz Instrumentals while turning the session around. I forgot how fckn good these beats are.

Yes, all by myself. I talked to the staff via Facebook and asked them if they have any free apartments. Then they told me, that there are free ones and they start at 410$ per month. I asked if they can show me pics of the rooms for 410$ and they sent me these. So, I REALLY hope this is what I'm going to get. It's just unimaginable by our western standarts to get such an apartment for such a low monthly rate I guess?

Electricity, water and Internet I have to pay also, but it can't be that much ether. So if I end up around something in between 450 and 475 it's okay for me.
