Hi everyone,

New here, and decided to make my maiden post a bankroll challenge. I'm planning to build my 'roll up from $350 to $10k over the next 6 months playing HU PLO.

Ambitious?

Perhaps

A bit about me - I started playing poker in the boom years, around 2006, had some decent success, mainly in MTTs. Got bored of poker, started a business and a family in 2010 so stopped playing.

I'm in the fortunate position of having a lot of spare time now as my business pretty much looks after itself, so I rediscovered poker earlier this year. I've found a real love for PLO, especially heads up as I'm a self-confessed action junkie

Been mostly playing the micros and learning the game. I think I'm probably at a point where I can make a consistent profit now. My plan is to put in around 15 to 20 hours per week grinding it out and building up a sweet bankroll to begin playing at mid-stakes.

I think the accountability of being on these forums will help me stick to my goal, so I'm going to post my graph at the end of each day I play.

Anyway, hope to chat to some of you, especially any fellow PLO-heads. Any advice, tips, words of caution will be gratefully received.

Cheers,

Dan

Started first day of challenge today with a couple of hours HU PLO. My plan is to short-stack PLO25 for 40BB or PLO50 for 20BB, but continue playing as stacks get deeper. I figure this way I'm playing within my bankroll (x30 buy ins, move down stakes at x20).
Not sure if this is the best way to do it, but I think there are some advantages playing short-stacked PLO HU as it will hopefully reduce variance and people don't seem to adjust too well to shorties.

Anyway, first day was ok until I got almost 200BB deep, then lost the lot on a cold deck. I'll post the hand below.

Here's the graph so far:

And the hand that ruined my day is below. Not sure if I could have played it any differently tbh. Seems like a cold deck situation - any thoughts?

WPN, $0.10/$0.25 Pot Limit Omaha Cash, 2 Players
Poker Tools Powered By Holdem Manager - The Ultimate Poker Software Suite.

BB: $44.02 (176.1 bb)
Hero (SB): $47.06 (188.2 bb)

Preflop: Hero is SB with Qd Kd 7h Tc
Hero raises to $0.75, BB raises to $2.25, Hero calls $1.50

Flop: ($4.50) 3c Td 7d (2 players)
BB bets $3.21, Hero raises to $13.91, BB raises to $41.77 and is all-in, Hero calls $27.86

Turn: ($88.04) Kh (2 players, 1 is all-in)
River: ($88.04) 9c (2 players, 1 is all-in)

Results: $88.04 pot ($0.50 rake)
Final Board: 3c Td 7d Kh 9c
BB showed Th Qs Ts 8c and won $87.54 ($43.52 net)
Hero showed Qd Kd 7h Tc and lost (-$44.02 net)

Ok, so I didn't stick to my goal of posting every day

Approaching 10k hands into the challenge, so here's the graph as it stands.

Pretty pleased with my progress so far, but don't want to get complacent. I've worked hard to improve some areas of my game - especially tilt issues and handling downswings.

Anyway, would be good to hear from fellow PLO-ers, especially any heads up specialists.

Namaste

Dan

Thanks Gillingham - yeah, hopefully reach the goal ahead of schedule, but PLO can be pretty swingy. Shortstacking helps, but even then you can go on some sick downward trends.
Best foot forward and all that.
Just off to put in a couple of hours grind...
