Bad beats against whale at 2/5

So I played 2/5 last night after work and unfortunately lost $1245. There was a maniac whale on the table who kept sucking out on me. Here are 2 notable hands:

Hand 1: hero is dealt AJss in BB

6 limpers (including whale)
Hero raises to $60
UTG calls $60
Whale 3bets to $220 on BTN
Hero jams $564
UTG folds
Whale calls $564 with 53ss
Board runs out XXXX5 and whale stacks me.
This was a 1.1k pot where I lost as a 65% favourite.

Hand 2: hero is dealt KQhh in SB with $730 stack

Whale limps $5 UTG
Reg raises $20 BTN
Hero 3bets $75 SB
Whale calls $75
Reg calls $75

Flop ($215) is Ah 9s 5h

Hero checks
Whale bets $200
Reg folds
Hero jams $655
Whale calls $655 with 76hh
Turn is 2c and river is 8d and whale rivers the nuts.
This was a 1.5k pot where I lost as a 75% favourite.

So let's look at how this session would've ended up if I realised my all-in EV:
First pot I get back about $720 in EV.
Second pot I get back about $1030 in EV.
In total, I ran $1750 below all-in EV on those two hands, which means I would've left the session with a nice $500 profit if I had a neutral level of luck (neither good nor bad).

One thing I am proud of myself for though is not tilting. I kept it cool and continued to play sensibly for the rest of the session, despite those bad beats. This is how professionals should act. Just smile that your opponent got his stack in as a massive underdog and then move on. Take your time and think through each and every decision in the following hands, particularly with your preflop hand selection. Don't loosen up your game just to chase losses.

So now I'm $12,316 up at live poker this year.

Grats on acting like a professional, for once, ITT. Child of destiny it seems.

Re: Having a really bad downswing immediately after setting poker goals

Just handed in my 2 weeks notice

I'm finally quitting my job! Today I handed my boss a signed letter of my 2 weeks notice of resignation.

So excited not to work this lousy dead-end job anymore. Now I have more time to immerse myself into poker. I will finally be able to show up to the casino feeling fresh, rather than feeling drowsy after a 5hr shift. I can finally fix my sleeping pattern permanently. I can finally play on Friday and Saturday evenings, or even go out to parties and social events those days.

This is an amazing opportunity for me to finally become a full-time poker pro! It's a bit unfortunate that I had to hand this letter in immediately after dropping 1.2k at 2/5, but oh well, you can't be too much of a perfectionist.

So f**king excited about the new times ahead!

Yeah not sure why you kept the job for so long anyways when a more entertaining, higher paid, higher long term potential job awaits. GL!

Yeah good on you for taking the leap and putting everything into poker, there's just too much money to be made in the game to not give it a go

What's your bankroll? Like 6k? And your playing 2/5 full time? Don't worry that should be plenty, you shouldn't have to worry about 10+ buy in downswings, they don't really happen if you're a crusher
