Please stop using the word downswing everytime you have a losing session.

GL with the challenge op, I highly suggest not going pro though

Well I lost $900 at 2/5 then $300 at 1/3 so it's almost like multiple losing sessions in a row. That's why I called it a downswing.

Why do you suggest me not going pro?

"It's really tilting to read your self-entitled posts".
1. Don't read this thread then if it tilts you so much.
2. How am I being self-entitled? If anything, I'm one of the least entitled people at my casino. I am always polite when I lose, I always say "nice hand", I accept that I have good days and bad days and I never expect to win every session or every 80-20 favourite. I don't consider myself entitled at all.

I think you're missing their point which is that losing 2-3 buyins isn't a downswing.

The reason I post about downswings isn't to seek pity. It's not to say to the world "look how unlucky I am, I deserved to win this but I didn't". If anything, I'm willing to acknowledge that I've run way above EV this year. I didn't deserve to win as much as I did this year. I'm entitled to far less than I have and I'm a very lucky person. I admit that.

The reason I post about downswings is for 2 reasons:

1. To make this thread complete. I don't want to be the guy that has an agenda to either only post good things or only post bad things. I know some people that go on an overseas trip and they'll only post good things. They'll exaggerate how much fun they have and not post a single negative thing. I know people who gamble at the slot machines who only ever tell you their success stories and don't talk about their losses. And I know people who do the opposite: everything they say is negative, about how sh*t their life is and how the world is so cruel to them. And frankly, I consider all of these people to be dishonest. They're all living a lie. The ones that are overly optimistic and the ones that are overly pessimistic are not telling the whole story. And I don't have any agenda here except to tell the full story of my poker adventures: both the good and the bad. I'm not going to omit anything because I want this thread to be as accurate as possible.

2. I want to be able to look back and see it all. I want to see how great it felt to be on an upswing and how bad it felt to downswing. These emotions are the most raw and honest I'll ever feel because I make these posts immediately after the event. And it helps me personally to have a sanctuary of memories that I can look back upon, as well as being able to retrace my steps completely and see exactly what series of events led me to where I am now.

You do sound entitled as **** though because you call losing 2-3 buyins in a session a downswing which is what people are telling you and instead of realising this you start blablablablabla posting about some other bs.

Edit: just look at your post you say how bad it felt to downswing, this is why you sound entitled you act as if losing 2 buyins feels soooo bad lmao.

Firstly $1200 is 4 buyins at $1/$3. Secondly when your bankroll is under 5k and you lose $1200 at a single session, it hurts. You need to understand that.

If I had 20k to my name then I wouldn't care if I lost $1200 in a session but it hurts when you only have 4k.

So you have 4k and decide it is a brilliant idea to play 2/5? Is there any advice that you actually accept?

Can't wait to see the post when you hit 10BI+ downswing then if this is "really bad downswing"

I'm sure it will happen at some point, but why are you so eager to see how I react to pain?

That's like saying to someone who just broke up with their girlfriend of 4 years "LOL kid you think this is bad... I can't wait to see your reaction after you get a divorce after 25 years".

There's 2 reasons why I played $2/$5. One of those reasons is completely valid but the other... not so valid:
1. I decided that I can afford to put 1k towards $2/$5 and still have 10 buyins left for $1/$3. Taking shots is what helps me move up faster.
2. There was a wait list for $1/$3 and I didn't have the patience to stand around for 20 mins.

Someone asked why I haven't posted many HH's here and why I'm mainly just focusing on daily results. There are multiple reasons for that:
1. This is a PG&C thread. The purpose is to tell you what my goals are and to update you on how I'm progressing towards those goals. This isn't a strategy thread.
2. I've posted a lot of HH's in the LLSNL subforum so I'd just be double-posting them if I posted them here.
3. This thread is more about the emotional side of poker. I have other threads where I focus on the strategy side of the game, but this one is more for results and emotions.

I didn't ask that for my benefit; I suggested it for yours.

From what you've posted here, and from the HH I've seen...

You probably overrate yourself as a poker player.
You react badly to sincere, genuine advice, whoever gives it.

GL anyway, but I'm out.

If people stop suggesting that I'm a losing $1/$3 player then maybe I'll stop ignoring their advice.

There have been some really great comments on 2p2 but there's also been some awful advice from people that oversimplify the game. I'll listen to advice but if people go as far as to say that I'll never be a winning player at low stakes live and I should give up now whilst I'm ahead, then I'm not going to take that advice seriously.

Grandpa's got balls

$1/$3, 9-handed, Sunday evening.

Hero (BTN) - Mid 20s WG. TAG image. Has made a lot of flop Cbets though and folded to aggression. $550.

Villain (CO) - 60 year old WG. Playing somewhat loose but nothing crazy. $600.

Villain limps
Hero raises $18 with KJcc
Villain calls $18

Flop ($36) is Qd Qh 3d

Villain checks
Hero bets $12
Villain calls $12

Turn ($58) is Qc

Villain checks
Hero bets $40
Villain calls $40

River ($130) is Jd

Villain donks $110
Hero folds

Spoiler:
Grandpa shows As 5c

How are you folding this J river as played? easy call?

Wow, judging by that last hand, no wonder you're on a "downswing" i.e. losing player. That was a trivial call. If he has the case Q, well played to him.

Did you understand you had a full house there? Perhaps you didn't.

Yeah it's a trivial call when a 60 year old man leads out for a pot-sized river bet in a spot where you're uncapped (sarcasm)... I mean, what bluffs does he even have here?

Thank you. Without being results-oriented, I think it was a good fold. At the time, I had no reason to believe that this particular player was capable of bluffing in this spot, and I didn't want to end up another victim of Zeebo's Theorem. I'm better than that.

"Such a stupid raise!"

1 limper
25 year old Indian guy in headphones raises $18 BTN
Hero 3bets $70 SB with TT
Guy tanks for a minute and keeps repeating how it's "such a stupid raise" and it's "just stupid, there's only $20 in the pot and you raise to $70" before folding.

Normally my raises only tilt grumpy old men. It's refreshing to tilt a young reg with headphones.
