Sure, but think about all the other 20 something alcoholics with aspirations to be a "pro poker player." It's pretty damn realistic

I am married with three kids. We spend about 450 per week at the supermarket and then another 50ish at the health food store

funny how dead poker is

Moving from pokerstars to live Australian games would be a huge adjustment. Two totally different games

Porterhouse beef LOL. I make decent six figs and feed a family of four and I NEVER abut porterhouse beef.

$300 gift for the old lady and $40 on the old man. Yeah she gave you life but you should thank your daddy for hitting his shot in the first place.

Your GF is draining you bro. Open your eyes.

And the Asian gifs posted ITT are on point.

Good ol' college try.

> "You can cut expenses if you cook at home"
> Buys expensive slab of beef and microwavable sides
> "Wow, a 3-piece from KFC would be cheaper"

You can buy a week's worth of vegetables for the cost of that hunk of meat. You could buy a 2lb bag of lentils + 2lb bag of quinoa that will last you longer than a week for less.

Inb4 OP can't chop vegetables because it would wake up his roommates.

So I had lunch with family today to celebrate both my dad and my grandma's birthdays. During the meal, the inevitable question came up: "so what are you doing with yourself, (my name)?" I decided to just be completely honest with them for the first time and tell them that I'm playing poker professionally. They all looked pretty shocked. I got a lot of comments like "I didn't know you played poker" and "so you actually win money at that?" When I told them that I'd made 20k profit this year, my Aunt said to me "so you've won 20k... but what about how much you've lost?"... she didn't seem to comprehend what the word 'profit' meant. And my dad was trying to compare me to his mates who played roulette, talking about how they go on winning streaks but it's important that they set a limit and I should too. I tried my best to explain how poker works and how it's different, but they just didn't seem to understand... oh well.
So your parents had no idea what you were doing? Thought you had a job delivering pizza or whatever and find out you're a poker player who's in debt to a loan shark? Or did you leave that part out?

Family do tend to react like this about gambling regardless of how well you're doing but in your case I think you got off easy. My parents would probably disown me if I were you. I'm not trying to insult you. They're just ultraconservative and tolerate my "career" only insofar as I'm making comparable money to legit careers. So count yourself lucky all you got was a little confusion.

AND in their defense it is pretty confusing to claim you've made 20k in profits while you actually have negative net worth because of your decision to play poker and subsequent decision to play staked and subsequent decision to take out 20k at 50% APR.

BUT at the rate you're going you'll clear that debt in what, 20 hours? Sounds reasonable.

Hope you continue running good because I don't want to think about what you might do if you run bad and go busto again. Last time you holed up playing runescape for a month. What would happen if you bust with a 20k loan at 50% APR (or 15k or whatever it is now)?

I know you probably see me as a "hater" but I'm not. I see a lot of myself in you when I was your age (not that long ago, but long enough to have learned a thing or two) and am concerned you're one crisis (sick downswing, death of a loved one, serious health problems, etc.) away from falling into deep depression and never coming back. And you seem like a nice kid. Nobody wants to see that happen. Well... maybe worldz, but since his ideal world is one of unrestrained corporate dominance and exploitation of the undeserving, this isn't much of a shock.

GL in Sydney.

Still going to pretend that your attacks on the concept of ego weren't the exact evil Marxist bs that I called them out to be after this irrational attack on me?

Dinner in a decent but not especially nice restaurant is going to be $20-$40 for a main, maybe $10 to $15 for entree (for those from the cultural wasteland of America that's something you eat before you main). Booze will be the real killer though, you're looking at minimum $10 for a beer in a restaurant, more if you want a premium or micro brew. Same at the pub. If you can find a pint for under $10 you're pretty happy, and some of these ****ty micro brew places are selling pints for like $18-$20.

You can easily blow $200 on a night out and not even be that drunk. And that's just for one person, if you're shouting your partner and your mates it can add up pretty quickly.

How much is a beer in Crown 6bet?
Yeah we have restaurants too.

And given 1 AUD = .75 USD roughly these prices are similar to what you'd find in major American poker locales like LA or Vegas. What's more relevant is the cost of groceries, which is probably higher in Melbourne than most American cities.

Not sure OP knows about grocery stores though as the only choice seems to be Thai restaurant vs KFC vs Margos.

You all live in the literal worse places if beers cost you $20. £2.40 for a pint of bitter in my local. Let the barmaid keep 10p as a tip get your end away.

I'd be interested to know the complete list of everything OP eats + drinks in a typical week. He's never given us that before.

$45 a day on food (three $15 meals from KFC), plus an average of 2 beers a day ($20 each) gets him up to about $2k/month. Some days he might opt for Porterhouse beef steak instead of the KFC.

Ye, gold. Clearly porterhouse and scotch fillet are the bare minimum for ballers like OP. Along with microwave gravy of course.

you said you buy a brew for $2.40 and tip 10 cents. so that means you don't say keep the change, you say keep 10 cents and bring me back the rest....

Ah, I see what you were trying to say now: you buy two beers, leave a $5 - $4.80 means you tipped 20 cents for two brews.

you sir are a douchebag, and not for tipping ****ty
