Hello penguin fans!
I'm going through another one of those phases where I question my choice of hobby. Have you ever played 42,000 hands of microzoom and only won 1 buy-in, because the Stars RNG hates you? I have.
[x] 15.5 buyins below EV.
There were times in this sample (from August till now) that I thought that maybe I'm just not good enough to beat the game any more, and to be honest I'm still not sure, because variance always puts my head in a spin. My EV was only 4bb/100, so I'm pretty sure that my strat is lacking in some way and I'd need to study more to turn things around, but my database seems to indicate that runbad was the biggest factor on the poor results. That said, the games at 2NLz to 10NLz definitely felt tougher than a year ago (especially in daylight hours), and I'm struggling to find reasons to keep battling when the rewards are so low.
The bad variance mainly came in the form of losing big pots where I was all in as a favourite. I mean, I ran 9 buy-ins below EV with kings alone, and it's pretty hard to make money overall if you're only winning 2bb per hand with the second best hand in poker.
The runbad with kings was exemplified by
this ridiculous hand:
(The guy with AQ shoved the flop and made a runner-runner straight).
Meanwhile, I'm also breaking even in timbeys over on Unibet. Here's my graph for the whole year:
They've just overhauled their UK Tour satellite system in an attempt to stop people like me hoarding tickets instead of playing the live events, and I'm not sure how it will all shake out, but my ticket roll is currently on 1031 euros. I'm still focused on satties in the 10-50 euro bracket.
This is the life of a breakeven penguin. #PingItSideways
I'm sorry I can't be more positive. I hate it when it's cold and dark all the time. It makes me so moody. The Christmas period is usually very +EV for playing poker though, so maybe I'll be in better spirits soon. #MoanItIn Cheers!
