I missed this (must have unsubscribed). Welcome back, Arty.

I've just started playing around again on the Unibet pico cash games, so it's good to see you've returned.

The first month back hasn't gone too briliantly, but I'm much more relaxed about poker this year than last, so I might even describe the recent sessions as "fun". I've not played much because I've been paying more attention to the World Cup, and trying to stay alive during the heatwave.

For the record, here's the low volume unretirement tourney graph: (Running badly vs the usual whales, still haven't cashed in a 100 euro game).

I've still got 865 euros of tourney tickets to burn through, but there's no hurry.

I've been using some of my old rakeback bonus points to buy cashgame tickets (#NeverDeposit) and the 4NL tables have been stupidly soft, so even with my usual mix of runbad and spewbad it's been pretty easy going. (The graph doesn't show a 10 euro downswing and a huge comeback in the middle, as I only update the spreadsheet at the end of each week).

A spot where I actually made a hand:

A spot where I didn't make a hand, but villain's screenname goaded me into winning the pot anyway.

As usual I have no real plan to grind it up, or take things very seriously. All my poker will be played on a very casual basis from now on. I hope everyone's doing well. Good luck Belgium and England!

4NL is ridiculously soft there. I was up about 15BI after 20k ish hands (estimated) and obv lost most of it when I moved up to 10NL.

Are you playing short stacked?

Yeah. Since I've been playing on individual tickets, I buy-in for 2 euros, so I can play 2 tables at once and reduce the variance. The latest 4NL ticket didn't last too long. I busted it after 540 hands.

Satties were going pretty badly this week until I smashed a UK25 on Saturday to put me into profit. More importantly, I won a ChipRace twitter photoshop competition so I got a free shot at the 100euro Supernova again. I wasn't really up for a long session of poker after watching the World Cup final, but a couple of buddies were playing the Nova, so I late-regged, and coolered the **** out of ChairChap after an hour, then basically folded it in for the next three hours. I never got dealt a better hand than QQ in 4 hours, but the short story is that I finally got that monkey off my back and (min-)cashed in a tourney with a 100 euro buy-in.

When I came out of retirement my account had 0 euros and 905 in tickets. The cashier now looks like this:

I guess I'll withdraw most of the cash and just keep playing those damn satties at my usual slow pace. For those that are interested (hi Robot!) the UO ticket roll is on 410, and the UK Tour ticks are on 475. #PingItUp

You should consider selling some action on some of the bigger tourneys imo. I bet you could charge a modest make up and get some buyers, and this would enable you to play a bit more in your bankroll.

Hello guys and dolls!

I had a fairly painful downsw0ng after my last tourney bink and my Unibet 'ticket roll' was decimated, but I binked 3 satties last week to get me back above even. The unretirement giraffe now looks like this:

Ticket roll is on 980 euros, but I'll be spunking off at least 100 in the UOS Main Event rebuyament this coming Sunday. I'm still kind of "stuck" at the UO10 and UK25 level in the satties, so I'll probably not qualify for one of the live events until about 2087.

My buddies SleazyP, ChairChap, Neri and KrustyRobot have been doing somewhat better, and it's always a pleasure to cheer them on via the Discord rail. [Insert 38 random emojis here].

Since tourneys were going badly, I returned to the Zoom cashgame streets in August and started another of my pointless microstakes bankroll building exercises, with the aim to move swiftly up from 2NLz using aggro BRM. But the Stars RNG is into its seventh year of hating me, so I'm 8 buy-ins below EV after 16,000 hands. #Runbad4Lyfe

It's kind of hard to move up quickly when the gap between your EVbb/100 and actual bb/100 is bigger than most people's winrates. #MoanItIn

I'll continue with the cash for a while (I'll probably skip straight past the 5NLz level and go straight to 10NL once I've made another $20, as I can't abide the nut-peddlers at the $5 level) as I much prefer the strategy of cashgames to all the tourney nonsense. That said, I navigated my way through a couple of huge freeroll donkament minefields to win a couple of WCOOP tickets, so I'll be playing a couple of $22 WCOOPs if I can find the time for them in the next couple of weeks.
I have nothing else to report, apart from setting a new personal best by winning at showdown (well, winning more than villain in a fortunate chop) with 4-high like a boss.

Catch ya later, penguin lovers!

that screenshot is giving me a headache. So you bet 0.03 and he calls 0.02 or he bets first and you raise 1SB? wtf

Villain limped pre. I was in BB and we just checked it down, and somehow I got more than my BB back when the pot was chopped.

Hello penguin fans!

I'm going through another one of those phases where I question my choice of hobby. Have you ever played 42,000 hands of microzoom and only won 1 buy-in, because the Stars RNG hates you? I have.

[x] 15.5 buyins below EV.

There were times in this sample (from August till now) that I thought that maybe I'm just not good enough to beat the game any more, and to be honest I'm still not sure, because variance always puts my head in a spin. My EV was only 4bb/100, so I'm pretty sure that my strat is lacking in some way and I'd need to study more to turn things around, but my database seems to indicate that runbad was the biggest factor on the poor results. That said, the games at 2NLz to 10NLz definitely felt tougher than a year ago (especially in daylight hours), and I'm struggling to find reasons to keep battling when the rewards are so low.
The bad variance mainly came in the form of losing big pots where I was all in as a favourite. I mean, I ran 9 buy-ins below EV with kings alone, and it's pretty hard to make money overall if you're only winning 2bb per hand with the second best hand in poker.

The runbad with kings was exemplified by this ridiculous hand:

(The guy with AQ shoved the flop and made a runner-runner straight).

Meanwhile, I'm also breaking even in timbeys over on Unibet. Here's my graph for the whole year:

They've just overhauled their UK Tour satellite system in an attempt to stop people like me hoarding tickets instead of playing the live events, and I'm not sure how it will all shake out, but my ticket roll is currently on 1031 euros. I'm still focused on satties in the 10-50 euro bracket.

This is the life of a breakeven penguin. #PingItSideways

I'm sorry I can't be more positive. I hate it when it's cold and dark all the time. It makes me so moody. The Christmas period is usually very +EV for playing poker though, so maybe I'll be in better spirits soon. #MoanItIn Cheers!
