Re: Grinding up a bankroll to move to Vegas
Why move to Vegas? Florida is where the $$$ is at!!!! In Vegas, only the Bellagio, Venetian or Wynn run 2/5 consistently. In florida, Tampa, Jax, Miami have more 2/5 going at any one time than any casino in Vegas!

I wouldn't know about the FL games. After playing half a mil hands of NL, FL just seems so claustrophobic to me.

I've heard the action is good in Florida and I'll definitely make it out there eventually. My plan is to spend around 6 months in Vegas and see how things go. I just love the atmosphere there.

Re: Grinding up a bankroll to move to Vegas
Stay out of FL, we don't need any more 2p2ers coming to get their piece of our gold mine In all seriousness though, Jax alone has 2 30+ table rooms, with 1 more on the way and is having 2 WPT events this year. I'm from SoCal, and I definitely prefer FL due to the friendliness/fishiness of the players, cheaper cost of living, no LA traffic, and Jax is 100x cleaner than LA.

Re: Grinding up a bankroll to move to Vegas
I played 2 sessions totaling 5 hrs the last couple days and lost $18. I made a few big lay downs. I haven't gotten tangled in any real tough spots lately.
I've not been feeling like playing that long, so I'm still behind pace.

Angie and I are thinking hard between Fla and Vegas. Seems like vegas is better at the non professional stakes (ie 1/2 1/3) but it looks like florida kills vegas at 2/5 5/10. Both have low cost housing and favorable climates.
It's months before it will matter and we have lots of $$$ to make before we are going anywhere but i'm going to look deeply into the 2 places in the meantime.

Re: Grinding up a bankroll to move to Vegas
I played 5 hrs today and won $247.
Booked my best session of the month so far. The action was good, the hands were standard.
I've been having some insomnia the last couple weeks. I am going to try to get back on a more regular sleep routine. I definitely play better and get better reads when I am well rested.

Re: Grinding up a bankroll to move to Vegas
I played 4.5 hrs today and won $98.
Here's a somewhat interesting hand I played:
I'm in the bb with 4 4 and check to see a flop with 6 players. I had already decided I wanted to slow play it if I flopped a set.
Flop- K 4 3
I check utg+2 bets 8 into 8, 3 callers and I call (thought about making my standard play and c/r) I just stuck with my plan and let a card peel off.
Turn- 9
Safe card, I check, utg+2 fires 30 into 48. It folds to me and I make the call. At this point I was pretty sure villain was betting a made hand and not a fd or sd so I stuck with the plan.
River- 3
I check again anticipating a value bet, and villain obliges with a bet of 40 into 108. I think for a couple beats then do my best "**** I missed my fd raise" of 100 and villain reships for 20 more. He ended up having K 3 for the under full. I guess it was somewhat of a cooler but I think I played it well.

I don't really have any aspirations to learn any other games besides NLHE / PLO in the near future. I've never played live FR PLO before so I want to hit the game at Aria or the V whenever I get out there. Depending on how long I do this for, I'll probably end up learning more games to break the monotony.

Re: Grinding up a bankroll to move to Vegas
I played 3 hrs today and won $98. (same as yesterday haha) I didn't get that much sleep last night so I didn't feel very focused and decided to head home early.
I'm taking a break tomorrow for band practice. Half way through the month and I have only put in half the volume I wanted to. I have not been playing long enough sessions. So, going to work on that the rest of this month and put in more full days.

Re: Grinding up a bankroll to move to Vegas
Just read start to finish. Very interesting. Wish u luck, maybe we'll cross path once u make if out here. BTW what is ur current roll I noticed u havnt posted it in a while? Also have u been able to subtract anything for a liferoll yet? That was my biggest problem when I was unemployed and grinding. Just living out of one pile of cash only putting enough in the bank to cover that months bills.

Best luck for you OP. What was your game strategy when you were playing with 50BB? I'm thinking of doing something similar, though I had 6k roll right now

Re: Grinding up a bankroll to move to Vegas
I played 3 hrs today and won $31. I had a headache and didn't feel like playing as long as I had planned to . Here's kind of an interesting hand I played. Maybe a little fishy?
I pick up A 10 in mp and raise to 12 over a couple ep limps. 2 callers behind and then an ep shorty shoves for 40 total, the other limper folds. I tried to get heads up by raising 100 more. (I felt that the 2 lp callers were pretty weak). A lp villain ends up calling with an effective stack of 110 with A J .
The board is incosequential, shorty takes the main with A K and A J takes the side.
I think a fold to shortys shove would have been better but shoving here is not too bad.

I hope I run into you when I get out to Vegas, I'll get you a beer . My bankroll is at around $4k. I've been keeping a budget the last few months to manage expenses. It is a little surreal to be getting by with only poker knowledge and a stack of hundos.

Thanks! With 50 bb I would just play a tight value range aggressively always raising and 3betting preflop and shoving any favorable flop. It is easy to take advantage of the loose players coming along with speculative hands or even junk without correct odds to crack you.

I played 6 hrs today and won $207. I didn't get many playable hands and was folding most of the night but picked up aces just as I was getting ready to leave and got paid off well.

Re: Grinding up a bankroll to move to Vegas
Great challenge OP. Keep it up. Your sample size is pretty close to big enough to determine your a $14 an hour winner in these games. A couple of things. Do you enjoy poker still?
When are you planning on moving up to 2/5? When you get to Vegas or when you get to $10,000 bankroll or x bankroll?

Re: Grinding up a bankroll to move to Vegas
I played 9 hrs today and lost $131. I felt good and played a full day. The action was good but I wasn't able to capitalize on it. I was making good reads and confident folds.
Here is a hand I played.
I'm utg with 10 10 , there was an active player raising almost every pot so I felt the conditions were right for a limp/raise, 4 limps to lp active player who makes it 15. 1 caller in lp, I raise to 104. An ep limper calls the rest fold. I started with 300 and villain covers.
Flop- A K 5 I tank check, villain insta ships. I study him for a minute and felt he hit the flop so I let it go.

Well according to ev++ my true winrate is somewhere between $8 and 20$ an hr. That range seems about right. Winrate for any specific game I play is inversely related to my opponent's loss rates. I always play in game with the most consistant losers and avoid grinding in a game with all winning players who I have no edge on or my edge is so small it is eaten up by the drop.
I do still enjoy poker, but it is definitely not as entertaining as it used to be. After playing over half a million hands most of my decesions are stardardized. I have played most common situations over and over again. It can be a really boring game when there are no tough decisions to be made. Esspecially after I put in those 160 hrs in July and broke even, I felt a little bit burnt out. I forced myself to play longer than I felt like playing. When playing when I didn't feel like it, it reminded me of working a job and I found myself glancing at the clock and thinking about the fun life experiences I could be having.
I've decided quality hrs are probably better quantity so I'm not going to play when I don't feel like it.
I have been taking shots in the 2/4 game at the Oaks with a 50bb stack. So far I'm running at $20/hr in the 34 I've clocked. I will only play in the bigger game if the line up is soft.

Re: Grinding up a bankroll to move to Vegas
Oaks sure seem like a good place to play, I booked a winning session the first time I play there this pass weekend and I was card dead 95% of the time. Most of the winning came from just one hand that I have AA and limp in and someone min raise and the big blind did a squeeze play so I just shoved and he called me with J8o preflop cuz he was so committed lol. Had to leave after 5 young guys join my table because they were so aggressive to my left and I was card dead so I knew it was time to leave . That place seems to be a bit scary at night when I have to park on the streets though .
