I played 5 hours today and lost $41. Didn't get involved in any real meaningful pots. Got 3bet a few times and made some borderline folds.

I've played at the higher limit game a few times but after the latest hit to my bankroll I'm just going to stick with 1/2 for awhile. Thanks for the confidence, some of my fellow grinders have been suggesting I move up aswell.

I played 9.5 hours today and lost $521. Another rough day. Made some big folds with overpairs and villains showed me it was correct. Got crushed with top set vs an oesd in a big pot. Here are a couple similiar tough spots I got in with AKo.

I pick up AK in MP, EP has opened for 15. Villain had been playing somewhat loose so I 3bet to 45. Folded back to villain who calls. stacks are 220 effective

Flop- J83 He checks to me and I lead out for 65 into 90 villain calls

Turn- 2 Now villain bets 80 into 210, I make an optimistic call assuming my K high fd isn't dominated and that an A or K would give me the best hand. I should have probably folded right here in retrospect.

River- 6 villain bets 30 and interrogate him for a couple seconds to make sure I'm not folding a chop then let it go. He shows KK, nh sir.

A few hours later at a different table. I pick up AK in the SB. Straddled pot, MP has opened for 12, one call from LP. I 3bet to 36, everyone folds to LP who calls. stacks are 200 effective.

Flop- 1074 I donk 50 into 85 and villain raises 100 quickly. I'm am pretty sure he has a set so I fold and he flashes 77, nh sir.

I plan on grinding it out for the next 3 days to reach my goal and hopefully run better to avoid having my first losing month of the year.

I have the same aspirations, aside from moving to Vegas. I plan on running up a 2k bankroll at the 200NL games starting next month (moving up north). Keep up the good work OP. Good luck!!

how would you describe your mental state after 4 straight losing sessions and a dip of $1600? i know mine sucks and i think i might give it up for good. taking a 3-day break right now to get my head back in the game.

Such a sick game. I fully understand variance, but questioning my long-term ability is something I do even after 2+ losing sessions. GLGL

I completed my goal for July by playing 162.5 hours. I spent more time playing poker this month then I have in any previous month all year. I had my worst monthly results of the year: $34. I think it was partially suboptimal play and partially variance. I feel a little bit burnt out after putting in that many hours. I think that may have been a contributing factor but it is hard make an objective judgement. I definitely "exercised" my bankroll this month and it was a reminder that no matter how soft the games are I am still going to have downswings.

Here is my 2011 live graph

The Session Logger app has been very useful. It does freeze up sometimes and does not have quite as many filters as the Poker Journal app for the iPhone. But it does an excellent job of tracking my sessions and I would recommend it for anyone with a phone that runs on android.

For August, my target is going to be 140 hours. I am going to focus on playing better and avoiding obvious mistakes.

The 2 main things I am working toward are buying a used car and moving out of my parents house. I am projecting that I can make it happen within the next 2 to 3 months depending on how many hours I put in and how well I run.

I am planning on moving to Las Vegas in April 2012 so that gives me 9 months to get prepared and build my bankroll.

GL in August to all my fellow 2+2ers and the others with PG&C threads.

I can't deny it is a little depressing watching all those pots being shipped in the opposite direction. My mindset is to focus on the decisions behind each hand and evaluate if I need to change my approach and disregard the actually outcome. I have heard it over and over "Don't be results oriented." The variance in poker is what disguises the skilled players from the inexperienced players, we must all lose sometimes it is the nature of the game.

I think it is fine to take a break when you need one but I wouldn't consider quitting just because you ran bad over a small sample of hands.

I took a few days off to relax and think about stuff besides poker. I put in 5 hours today and lost $4. The tables were great but I was not able to find many profitable spots to play. I'm feeling good about my game and ready to grind it out in August.

I'm going to monitor the pace again this month since it worked last month.

I played 5.5 hours today and won $247. I was playing in the 2/4 game most of the day the line up was pretty good. Starting the month off with some run good. Poker is a lot more fun when villains don't keep flopping sets on you.

An interesting situation came up. A short stacked player goes all in on an A88 flop with AK and is snap called by 88 the hands are tabled and the dealer mucks the hands and the flop, pushs the pot to 8888 without dealing a turn or river Everyone at the table told her what she had done and the floor was called.

The short stacked player was obviously in need of running kings which if it were to happen the hand would quallify for the $30K BBJ. After checking the tapes the officially ruling was that since the hand was not dealt to completion the pot was to be split between both players.

8888 protested (and I don't blame him) that he either won the pot or he won the BBJ. The floor eventually changed his desicion and awarded him the pot and gave the shortstacked her money back from the house money.

This whole thing took 15 to 20 minutes to clear up.

Going to be back at it tomorrow.

I didn't make it out to the Oaks yesterday, I ended drinking some beers and playing some HU NL Omaha at my buddy's house. I took down 2 out of 3 matches. We also played some roulette. (I always bank.)

I put in a short 3 hr session today and won $236.

Here is hand-

I'm in the bb with JJ, I raise it to 8 after one lp limper who calls.
He has 79, I cover.

Flop- A85
I lead for 8 into 13, villain calls. I don't think he would limp call an A so I put him on a lower pair or a draw

Turn- 3
I bet 10 into 29, villain calls (in retrospect I think betting 15 would have been better)

River- 5
I check, villain goes all in almost instantly for 53. I study him for a little bit and ask him if he has a 5, he just smiles. I wasn't really worried about and A given the preflop action. I make the call and he mucks an oesd.

Hi pure agression awesome thread I'm loving it. I've never been to the Oaks but I'm planning to head there to try out their 2-100 spread limit game. I have a few questions, is their 1-2 like a regular $1 small blind $2 big blind and $2 to limp or is it 1-1-2 blind and $4 to limp like most bay area card rooms? Do they take any $ for drop if someone goes all in to steal the pot and there is no flop? I used to play in a card room in Canada with a 2-100 spread and did very good so this would be the perfect structure for me. Most of the other card rooms in the bay area I've been to have a weird structure as a house rule and it's hard to get used to or understand to be an efficient winner .

BTW I have a real estate background and have search some houses in vegas and they seem to be very affordable, if you're thinking about moving there for longterm you should consider investing in a home. I'm heading to vegas at the end of this month to check out the games there and if it's good I'm planning to purchase a home there and find some poker buddies to room mate with . If you have any question feel free to ask.

Anyways great thread and I wish you the best of luck cheers

They actually changed from that odd 1/1/2, 4 to go stucture about a year ago. It is now 1/2, 2 to go which I like better. No flop no drop.

I'm way too broke to buy a house, maybe after I bust everyone in the Big Game .
