Went on my first nighttime trail run with the Trail Junkies

Embarking on the Trails of Glory half marathon

282 miles to go to reach my 1000 mile yearly goal. I've been ramping up the mileage the last couple of months running everyday. I just need to avg like 8 miles a day for the rest of the year.

Are you still playing a lot Karl? How are the results this year? Are the games harder for you or is 2017 still about 14 an hour?

The rake has gone from 4 max to 5 max in most LV poker rooms so I guess the game has gotten a little harder for everyone.

Hourly is roughly the same, just a lot less hrs played this year. I've logged about 50 hrs/month since Aug.

As far as opponents, maybe people on average are slightly better (or less bad) because of the plethora of strategy available in the palm of everyones hand. But it really comes down to table selection and assessing good tables from subpar and being nimble.

I had forgotten about your sleep and meditation goals for this year and I am quite intrigued by them. I am curious to know the effects that they have had on your mental landscape and general well-being. If you get the time, would you please touch the changes (if any) that those practices have spurred on.

Also, I have been enjoying the thread transition of late, especially the videos and photographs. There doesn't seem to be as much traffic in your thread of late, but I do appreciate the humble nature, and the peaceful tone that you seem to approach life with.

Here is a painting I gave The Trooper, "Go Gamble" is his indy clothing brand

Huge thanks to everyone who has picked up some of my art and taken advantage of the holiday sale! It really makes me happy to add value to the world in this way. It is cool to think that these artifacts I've created will be around long after I am gone to be enjoyed by generations to come.

I have been really productive this month, nailing all my daily habits, putting in a lot of miles, playing poker and painting. I am poised to enter 2018 with some momentum, really looking forward to what's in store.

My Dad is retiring after working for 4 decades and raising 4 kids, super proud of him. We are going to hang out in Sedona, AZ in earlier Feb. Any ideas for how to honor him for this accomplishment? Would love some input.

All of these habits have had a compounding effect and have been super positive practices. I'm sure everyone would agree they operate better on 8 hrs of sleep than 5 hrs, I still struggle with insomnia sometimes but when I get into a steady routine it is a lot easier to stay in rhythm. Meditation is simply a way to silence the constant thoughts running through our mind. I notice I can focus much better and feel less stressed after 5 or 10 min meditation session. A good analogy would be our brains are a computer running 10 apps simultaneously, then we shut them all down, reboot and only open 1 app.

Carl,

I'm enjoying the updates. Very inspiring to read about. I need to get my ass back in shape by running a little more and lift some weights again at the gym. I gain weight so easily if I don't work out because I eat so much.

How about a painting and/or write a original guitar piece? Give a little speech where you tell him how much you appreciate him as your dad/40 years of hard work raising you guys then perform the song?

Missing Vegas already. Lol, want to quit my job again and do it all over but with more discipline. No sport betting and pit games next time. I was prob down 1k doing that but it took alot of time away from poker.

Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year Carl.

I want to make sure I am posting in here at least every 10 days to measure the results of each mini challenge, my cadence of accountability.

I am stacking on a couple more daily habits since I have been consistent with the 5 I focused on last year for the last 2 or 3 months. I will review my goals daily and think of 3 things I'm grateful for. I am also going to start keeping more organized and detailed notes on anything I learn so I can retain and reference any great ideas I come across.

I'll throw the occasional HH in here if I find it noteworthy.

Off the top of my head, without specific criteria but just some areas I personally wouldn't mind living in for a while.

1. South Lake Tahoe
2. Santa Cruz
3. Monterey
4. Hawaiian Gardens
5. Jackson

If you have any questions regarding SF Bay Area neighborhoods I would be more than happy to answer.

In the midst of a little grindathon, gotta log 80hrs by 8am Thursday. 5 days of double shifts. I'll earn a $400 bonus from weekly promo and I also have small side bet with a friend for incentive. I've never played 15 hr sessions back to back and now I'm attempting 5 in a row. Already did 15 hrs yesterday, 9 hrs so far today. Let's roll!

I met PG&Cer redsoxnets5 today to record an interview, I'll upload it when I get home.

The Sedona trip was pretty much his celebration even though he told me it hadn't set in yet. I gave him some art and bought him ice cream on his bday.
