Hi, my name is Cole and I am a 22 year old college student. Poker has always been apart of my life but within the last year I started taking the game a lot more seriously. I started reading, studying theory, and subscribed to runitonce.com. I really enjoy studying the game and I continued to do this for 4-5 months (Winter of 2014-Summer of 2015). This last summer I had $100 dollars to my name and decided to sit down at a 3/6 limit game and give it a shot. Playing bad and running hot I walked out of the casino that day with $750. I then drove up the road to a bigger casino and put all my money on a 2/5 table. My run good continued and a never looked back. In about 3 weeks I ran my $100 to nearly 7k playing 2/5 6 to 7 days a week. I really enjoyed it, felt like I couldn't lose and had all the confidence in the world. Sadly, I had to move back to Georgia for school and my access to a casino was gone. For the last 6 months I have been going to home games and playing around Atlanta. Variance hasn't been the best and ive broke right around even during this time. My money from this summer has slowly trickled away due to other spending (still have about half) and I have decided to reevaluate what I want out of poker. I truly am passionate about the game and have a lot of talent. Having said that I am not where I want to be as a player. I have plenty of leaks and a lot to master. The other week I stumbled across a 2+2 article about becoming a poker pro.

I read it and instantly became excited. I felt like I could do it. So as of today I am setting out to complete "THE PATH TO BECOMING A PRO (part I, the Optimum Path)".

Today I deposited 75 dollars on ACR. I plan to grind 2nl for 50k hands and then reevaluate. If things go well I would potentially consider moving to 5nl before 50k hands but I really would like to go by DGIHarris's plan.

I will be posting constant updates here, graphs, hand review questions, my overall mood. I am very motivated but I feel like doing this will help me stay on track.

My goal is to play 2k hands a day (2 hours of 12 tables per day).

I feel like playing this volume of hands will make me a much more sound poker player and evolve my game.

I am very excited to get started and I hope you guys will enjoy this adventure with me.

Thank you for reading, time to become great and put in my 10,000 hours!

First 2k hands. Really swigging. Need to get used to the ACR 2nl Regs. I felt like I kept getting myself in bad spots OOP. Was crushing and then got a little too aggressive, started barreling with no equity ect. Was calling too light late in the session, just started to play bad and the result shows. Anyways, back at it tomorrow night.

Day 2! Up to 4k hands. Felt like a played a lot more solid today. Starting to get used to how some of the 2nl Regs play on ACR. Ran pretty good. I think I may be calling too wide OOP against 3 bets. May be leaking money that way. But anyways heres the graph after the second day. Gonna keep running it up!!!

Really up and down day today. Got hot toward the end of my 2k hands and ended up breaking even. Started playing better towards the end too! Bought a new monitor so I can play more tables now at once. Pretty excited about that. Anyways 6k hands down a lot more to go.

Here's a picture of my desktop fitting 15 tables tiled. 1440p is nice and so is my ACR Poker Stars skin!

8k hands in. I failed to mention that I am also a college athlete and this weekend we had our opening weekend and with school work I didnt have time to play over the last 3 days. I logged around 2k hands tonight. Pretty swingy I was playing a lot more aggressive pre flop. 3 betting a wider range and just trying to exploit the regs that I have a 2kish hand sample size against.

Anyways gonna keep running it up. Still been playing 12-15 tables at a time.

Here's the overall graph since the original post!

Only got 600 or so hands in today. Too tired to keep playing after a long day of class/tests/practice. Did run pretty hot though. Didnt ever get it in bad and suck out but won all my flips and so on. Anyways my goal is to be to 20k hands by next Tuesday.

Gl on your path my man, I wish you the best of luck.

Just a little unsolicited advice; I too was a college athlete and wish that I had been more in tune with my athletics and academics during my time in college as opposed to putting the majority of my focus into poker at the time. Poker really became a focus of mine following my junior year/season of college, and that area took on a life of its own. As my focus shifted more to poker, some of the edge I had built up athletically took as backseat. Additionally, if you are part of a team, you have an obligation to be a team member first and focus on your personal pursuits second.

Not bringing this up to detract from the personal strides that you are making, but once your competitive/team athletic years are gone, you don't get them back. Enjoy them while the last and give your all to it.

Again, best of luck with the athletic season, your academics, and the pokerz!

Ran pretty bad today during my 2k hands. 4.5 buy ins below EV. Almost was able to break even but wasn't able to. I really feel like I have a firm grasp on playing vs the 2nl Regs on ACR. I have read a lot of places that beating 10nl and down on ACR is near impossible because even though the stakes are low almost every player is still play GTO and is pretty solid. I would aggre to an extent but I feel the game is very beatable. Anyways here is my graph for the day. Be back tomorrow night for some more hands and hopefully run a little better!

10,000 hours is a lot. That's 20 hours every week for the next 10 years. You might be motivated now, but can you really say the same thing 5 years down the line?

Right, its from the book Outliers (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outliers_%28book%29). Basically the idea to become elite at anything you have to put in your "10,000 hours", its just an expression to motivate me, not an actual goal. Thanks for your input!

Alright so we are nearly 13k hands in. Went on a pretty nice heater recently and then came right back down to earth with a couple of bad run outs. Any ways things are good. Baseball is going well. Life is good. I am still enjoying playing as often as I can. Thanks guys

Alright so today makes the second day in a row I start off really well and then toward the back end of my session I hit a total downswing. Today I managed to grind it back up to make a small profit but I really dont understand why this is happening. Is it just normal or what? I guess its a small sample size of just two session but frustrating.

18.5k hands in. Been pretty much break even over the last 5k hands :/ I am going to do a HH review tomorrow and hopefully ill be able to make some changes after that. Still enjoying it. I am using the program Stack and Tile, playing 15 tables is very easy this way I may start adding more.

Thanks guys!

Cole

You should go play at harrahs Cherokee. Really soft tables. Only a hour and a half drive from Atlanta.
