Hello everyone,

I am a 21-year-old full-time ssfr player. I play on stars and a couple of euro sites. Just making this thread to help motivate myself to work harder than I have so far this year. Although my bottom line monetary results not been bad so far this year, it is fair to say that my overall effort with regards to increasing volume/working on my game has left a lot to be desired.

Aside from poker I have been radically changing my diet. I became a vegetarian on February 1st 2016 and I'm starting to think it's one of the best decisions I've ever made. And so I am slowly transitioning into a vegan! It will be difficult and take a lot of time, mostly because I live at home with my mother who is an excellent cook and I don't think it's fair to insist she starts cooking me vegan meals. She is not a vegetarian herself but obviously it's easy preparing vegetarian meals but very difficult cooking for a vegan.

I have also within the past month started to learn German. Last year I did a bit of travelling around Canada and Australia and I just simply cannot describe my admiration for the many, many German people I met out there. And my mother is a high school French and German teacher so it only makes sense that I spend the next two years or so becoming fluent in both, as not only is it baller to be British and multilingual but it also looks very good on a CV if I ever need/want to get a real job.

Also had the great pleasure of meeting other poker players during my travels and at last years Amsterdam VIP party (shoutout to pitapita, Mzbourg, Bossi, Blackfortuna and many other utter legends) I am open to the idea of playing some UK events throughout the year so hopefully I will get to meet some more!

My stars results so far this year:

Also play on a couple of euro sites (mostly 6max) but I'd like to keep that as quiet as possible.

I'd like to keep this thread updated with how my poker is going as well as my progress with German and veganism. I may also make a political post from time to time as it is currently a very interesting time in the UK and in Scotland in particular (where I live). I've made a couple threads on here before that have become abandoned so I can't promise this will still be active for the years to come but I will try my best!

Best of luck, guys!

Thanks! Haha I actually quite like him! He is an obnoxious ******* but I do really enjoy his videos. And the food he makes when he shows what he's eaten that day is mouth-watering!

It's definitely more to do with health reasons for me. When I was in Sydney last year I ate mcdonalds, Hungry Jacks and/or subway every single day. I had put on several kgs and felt miserable throughout the days. When I got home I shed the weight off because I'd asked my mother to stop feeding me red meat. It all just clicked from there.

I've dealt with depression my whole life but since I cut out meat entirely and started putting soy milk in my cereal I've felt way better about life. I don't know for sure if i'm feeling less depressed because I'm consuming less animal products, but I like to think that's the reason.

Thanks man, think it's best I stick to just learning German until I have a very good understanding of it. Don't think I could handle learning two languages at once. You can definitely add me on skype if you want though - skype name is the same as here.

Wow, that's insane. I eat Subway and Mcdonalds a bit too much here in Korea (and I feel terrible about it) because there are not a lot of good quality non-Korean alternatives but back home in Australia I would never set foot in places like that... if there is one thing that there's an abundance of in Australia it's good, healthy food.

I'll probably live in Korea forever. Even urban Melbourne and Sydney feel like country towns compared to Korea. Korea is very modern and there are so many people living in such a small place that it's always fast and exciting and convenient. If you're more than 15 minutes walk from a 24 hour convenience store you must be in the middle of no where. Great internet here. Bars, restaurants, cafes clubs everywhere and everything open 24-7. It's almost impossible to go outside and see no other people no matter what time of day is. Australia just feels so small and sleepy in comparison. The biggest comparison I can think of is that if I want to go to the store it's a 20 minute walk and I've got go before 8pm because everything will be shut after that. In Korea I can do anything, anytime and everything is right there (and it's significantly cheaper than Australia).

Also I'm in Busan which is a lot cleaner than Seoul, lots of green mountains all through the city and lots of beaches right in the middle of it. It's a good place to live.

Me and wife have been eating less and less meat for the past year or so, she tried vegan challenge thing to start the year. Def takes more effort but that has a lot to do with actually having to cook pretty much any time you want to eat instead of getting McD. atm I don't really see going vegan practical for myself, definitely not the strict version that transforms one into a ****.

There's more alternative's for meat texture now which is quite nice. Oumph! has the texture of chicken, hot new thing in Finland is pulled oats which is launching properly here now. Good stuff imo.

Veganuary! It's definitely becoming more mainstream in the west. And it is most definitely become easier and more practical for people to give it a try. I applaud you and your wife for doing the right thing for your bodies and the planet.

Too embarrassed to post a few others tbh

            German

I started learning German on the 13th of May and atm after spending ~ 1h/day on babbel I'm at the stage where I can dissect and translate simple sentences pretty well but it's quite difficult from me string a few together and talk about myself or some other subject because I still find it hard adjust to sentences not being worded as linearly as they are in English. And also because nouns having genders is just dumb. Especially when there's no rules as to how you can distinguish between masculine, feminine and neutral.

Still obviously a long way to go but I would be interested in hearing if anyone reading this who wasn't fluent in English until after school age could explain what steps they took to learning English? Or better yet, if anyone has learned German??

Good German movie/band/porn recommendations very welcome too.

Going to spend the rest of the night trying to catch up to everyone else in the world with Game of Thrones. Currently on season 2 episode 3

I've given up studying German twice, once in high school and once at uni (101/102 stuff). Noun genders seems like a useless concept and I'm not sure how important it is if your goal is to just speak German. If you think about ppl speaking English as a foreign language they/we make a lot of grammar and vocab mistakes but it's still perfectly understandable. And if you actually use German you'll most likely pick that stuff up over time. Obv if you wanna be good at written German it's a diff story.

Verbs at the end seems dumb as well. It's like someone is trying to say something but then sidetracks and makes the point at the very end and you're just waiting for them to say it. "I have a hand, I did some shopping last week nice car beautiful apple..., won." srs?

I tried the Michel Thomas method with French (gave up on that too) but it seemed like a pretty cool and effective way of learning key phrases and basic stuff. It's an audio thing where you listen to a teacher and 2 noob students repeat phrases and combine them.

Yea, I mean there's a fair few Polish people around where I live, and if they speak to you they will from time to time muddle up the sentence structure, or use a certain adjective when there's a synonym that would fit with what they're trying to say a lot better but I can still understand exactly what they are trying to say.

How did you learn English at school in Finland? Could most kids speak it very well by the time they were like 8?

Hah not quite. Most ppl start English at school in 3rd grade so around 9yo and then do it until end of high school so around 10 years. But one huge thing for Finns is that tv shows aren't dubbed and obv most good tv is in English so you hear it all the time on tv and songs etc.

Swedish in an official language in Finland and everyone has to take it in school but most ppl don't speak it at all. You just don't hear it much and def not use it so it's a lot harder to retain the skills after the obligatory classes. I'm very good at school-Swedish but I would def choose to speak English with Finn-Swedes

Yea, that's probably one main of the reasons why southern European countries suck at English so much. When I was in Spain last year visiting my friend who was teaching English there we watched family guy one night, and we couldn't stop laughing at the Spanish dubbed versions of all their voices. Peter and Stewie's voices were indistinguishable lolololol

Good luck, nice to hear that you are trying to go vegan. Since I tried it I have really felt a difference in my overall life. If you are still suffering from depression one of the things that helped me are daily cold showers http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17993252 , there are some studies showing it can help but the participants where not enough. For me it really works. Other things that helped me with depression and you may want to try are meditation, no fap, intermittent fasting, working out and reading books about how depression works.

No definitely not. It would be a very good play with 89 because I'm not perceived to be nutted and I would bet all my QJ+ otr. But this guy just isn't smart enough to have that move in his arsenal imo.

The cold showers thing sounds absolutely horrible. No way I would even think about trying that. I do read every night before I go to bed and I only masturbate once a week on average. We all get depressed from time to time, some more than others. I watch this video every once in a while to remind myself that it's all just part of life.

I'll probably never stop being vegetarian/vegan when I get there. One thing I've learned is that I feel less depressed when I eat less meat and more fruits and veggies!

Very annoying spot vs bad reg. Feel like he could be turning loads of pair +h hands into a bluff. Would appreciate any thoughts on this. In game I nearly called, but he is a nitfish reg so I gave him the benefit of the doubt.
