This is a great thread! Good luck to you sir! I am a newbie to this site though not a noob to poker, and the feeling of communal spirit here is already pretty cool. Hearing stories, the background for your motivation, and watching progress from you and other players is really, really cool!
Kinda a shoehorned first post, but hey it all starts somewhere! Again, GL man!
Appreciate the sentiments and welcome to the forum!
A friend of mine actually referred me to Randal Graves, from "AIDS to Paid" PG&C thread. I just took the time to read through a lot of it and it definitely is inspiring and full of wisdom and I highly recommend it if you get the chance.
So I am adopting this new philosophy that goes sort of like this; sometimes, when I have absolutely nothing, it's okay to just give up and fold.
I've played only about 2k hands at 5NL so far and am down roughly 5 buy ins, mostly to the same 55/6 rec I paid off 3 times, lol. It's not that big a deal though. I have already learned a ton from the small amount volume about the field and about what I need to do from here.
98k hands left to be +100 buy ins at 5NL. It will get done folks.
As promised, the lowly 2NL w/ some 5NL from January. The last few weeks in May I probably shouldn't have played at all and focused on recovering, but felt I could fight through it. Getting better every day now though and thinking as clearly as possible about every decision on every street in every hand. It's tough to tell but I profited a total of a little over $15. That doesn't include the $20 in rakeback or PLO.
Played some NLO yesterday and if you want to experience some variance, go play that game. I lost a 600+BB pot in semi-gross fashion, spewed off a couple more stacks before I finally snapped out of it and quit.
I don't have the history for the hand atm, but, I will try and remember it.
Hero is in the SB with I think AKJ8. I have ~$14.50, BB covers. MP, CO, and BTN limp. I try and thin it and raise to .40, 3 callers.
Flop Q98
Action, checks around.
Turn T
Hero leads out for an overbet of ~$2.60.
BB calls, CO calls with only .70 behind.
River is I think 7
The BB is pretty solid post flop for the most part, a little spewy pre flop, but, I don't recall him getting OOL much in spots like this when stacks are this deep. I wish I could tell you I x/c'd, b/f'd or b/c'd after tanking. The rational me thinks, what is this V calling an overbet with OTT with 2 players behind him? It's at least the NFD with AJ, right? I do block the nuts, but is he really folding the A high flush? Should just make a sick check fold otr.
I wish I could say that's what I did.
Hero bets $11.46 and is AI.
BB takes a couple seconds and calls. @#%$ I'm dead.
CO sticks his .70 in, as well.
Hero shows a flush, K high.
BB shows A6JX
CO mucks.
Quick update. Not only did I get my nose opened playing PLO/NLO end of last week, this morning I ran into a sticky 35/30 running like the sun. I don't know how many buy ins I'm down for the day in 5NL. I so bad wanted to call off work and sit there as long as it took to turn a profit. The guy was at every table stacked up and just doesn't like to fold...like ever. I was on a steady uptick playing pretty well the first 5k hands of June until this AM. The guy literally hit everything he needed for stacks, it was pretty phenomenal to witness.
Might post some hands later, but, I doubt I will read too much into the 1100 hand session as it was pretty unconventional and way too non-standard. Most likely the only purpose it would serve is to tilt the crap out of me replaying how awful I ran, lol. Getting paid with KKKK was really the only highlight.
So I had a 3 paragraph tl;dr typed up and my session expired before I could hit post. Hate it when that happens.
Cliffs version; got smacked, my leaks are back, not sure why, maybe it's the Lyme? Gonna take a break today from the game, hit the gym tonight, come back fresh and disciplined for the weekend crush session.
Thanks for reading, I better get back to work! Oh wait, it's break time. .

Flop:(41.6 BB, 4 players) 5 9 8 Hero checks, BB bets 29.6 BB, CO calls 29.6 BB, fold, Hero raises to 93.2 BB and is all-in, fold, CO calls 60.4 BB and is all-in

(Pre 32%, Flop 55%, Turn 34%) CO wins 238.8 BB
Just a quick update as I have not put that much volume in as far as NLHE. PLO runs a good bit so I have probably put just as many PLO hands in as NL. I am, however, moving back in the right direction for the most part. Some hands I need to clean up like below.
I really was gonna fold and changed my mind at the last second for some reason...
Played a sit'n'go this morning for the first time in a long time and came in 2nd. Ran like the sun for most of it, had a 2-1 chip lead HU and GII first hand behind AQ vs AK, then lost a flip TT vs AQ to end it.
Lost a $4.31 over 500 hands this AM playing NL, but, played pretty well. ~+$4.00 for the morning overall.
Sorry for those who are following, I have not put a ton of volume in lately (1500 hands in 8 days) as my focus has been mainly on getting married in 9 days , planning trips and getting in OT! Still got a few hands in and one last night worth posting.
A quick recap of June, it was by far my lowest volume month only putting in 13k hands so the graph isn't worth posting. I'll post the June/July graph together end of this month. Obviously next weekend I'm going to be busy getting married and all , but I should still have plenty of opportunities to put in some work outside of that.
100k hands, +100 buy ins at 5NL still is the goal!
Played pretty poorly yesterday dropping ~8.5 buy ins. 5 in the morning, mostly short handed which can be pretty high variance to begin with, then another 3 in the afternoon session in which I snugged it up, but just ran awful.
I did win playing PLO but I won't know the results exactly until I upgrade PT4 to include those sessions.
UTG raises to 3 BB, Hero calls 3 BB, CO raises to 10 BB, fold, fold, fold, UTG calls 7 BB, Hero raises to 27 BB, CO raises to 54 BB, fold, Hero raises to 134.8 BB and is all-in, CO calls 52.4 BB and is all-in
Flop:(224.2 BB, 2 players) 4 A 3
Turn:(224.2 BB, 2 players) 9
River:(224.2 BB, 2 players) 2
Spoiler:
Hero shows Q Q (One Pair, Queens)
(Pre 19%, Flop 1%, Turn 0%) CO shows A A (Three of a Kind, Aces)
(Pre 81%, Flop 99%, Turn 100%) CO wins 213 BB
Lastly, my preflop opening ranges are slightly off and I was advised in the micros forum to start opening a lot more OTB because I am leaving money on the table. Turns out they were right after looking at my %. They were sort of eye opening at 14.5/14.8/20 and 29.
Serious question, is it terrible that my UTG and MP opening ranges are almost identical?
Scratch changing the preflop opening ranges. Don't need to change them since I was looking at the wrong stats. It really made me feel like a goober.
I just played about 450 more hands this morning before hitting the gym. -$9.50 or so. Lost a flip AdKd vs JJ BTN vs BB for ~125BB so that's where most of it went. Not much else very interesting happened. Might play some later.
Hit a Royal Flush playing PLO just before this hand in pretty sick fashion where 2 of us GII ott with broadway and combo re-draws. The Jh came otr and gave V the boat and me a royal. Overall, I won for the day, but lost playing NLHE making a couple questionable calls.
Note to self, money isn't made in this game making hero calls against non-tilting players who shove otr. I swear, calling is a disease in NLHE. Down ~4-5 buy ins the last 1k hands which is almost exactly how much I've called off OTR when I could and should have easily folded. Lack of mental focus probably has me clicking buttons a bit since my mind is on other things. I won't be playing much, if at all, over the next several days. Wedding day is this Saturday!! Probably catch you all next week!
Okay so maybe I will put in a FEW hands today. 467 hands, +$5.39 this am which I am okay with, but, I am still making some pretty terrible calls and mis playing some hands that are just crushing me after reviewing them.
In theory, this V might show up with some 98s, but he has more JT, JJ and TT. This should be an easy fold ott, maybe even a flop check.
