Quick update: 10NL and beyond folks. BR isn't quite where I wanted it to be before I moved up, but, I am in no danger of going broke 4 tabling 10NL with ~40 buy ins (BTC + ACR account) and I do not want to get stale playing solely 5NL for another 100k hands. Volume is going to take a hit since I won't be 8 tabling for a while, but, looking forward to more quality play.

I once heard BR79 say something like games on Monday mornings are awful and you should avoid them since it is largely reg filled and difficult to have a decent winrate. What do I do this morning? Up at 345 and put in a 3.5 hour sesh lol.

I played pretty well except for 2 hands involving a recreational which resulted in a 30 minute break which I spent eating breakfast with my incredible wife. Overall, pretty happy with how I've been playing lately. A few mistakes here and there, but, nothing overly detrimental.
I will likely forego overtime tonight to put in some more volume. 5 days left in June and, speaking of my better half, we are coming up one my one year wedding anniversary July 8th! Super excited about that because I've got some nice things planned and she has no idea. .

Hero? I'm not sure what to make of this hand, or what to do otr.

As July winds down, I thought I would post about some non-poker related stuff that has me, well numb, tbh. So I've been at my job for over 12 years now. I have been promoted 3 times after starting near the bottom and have held my current position for the last 5 years, 4 months. Over that time I've excelled and mastered my job duties to the point I can train everyone, basically doing managerial type stuff, just not getting paid for it. I've been turned down for a management positions 6 or 7 times now, some I legitimately had no shot, but getting turned down for the jobs within my own dept stung. I was given BS reasons which I really don't buy. My problem is I refuse to play the political ass kissing game, and until I do, I doubt I will move up any time soon.

In the interim, I've taken on additional responsibilities outside my paygrade that I've been doing for over a year now. It's stuff our lawyers would normally handle, which myself along with another coworker have cleared nearly the entire backlog of grievances for our legal department dating back 2 years. I felt it may get a desk audit, lo and behold, our department head recommended merit pay increases for our hard work. Come to find out yesterday, they won't grant pay increases for unionized workers. What a load of bull****.

SO now the next step is to wait for them to create a new position which is a paygrade higher, and I would have to apply and bid on that job if/when it gets posted. This process could take at least another year and my patience is all but gone with that aspect of my life. I am trying to remain positive, but, I would like to move my wife and I out of our 900 square foot apartment before I'm 50.

In light of that news I received yesterday, it's just one more reason why poker is so great. The game doesn't care who you are, if you put in the work and you wanna give yourself a raise, you just put in more volume, study harder, work harder and move up to give yourself a raise. Waiting for "the man" to do anything on your behalf, asking "Please sir, may I have some more?" isn't the way to go if you wanna be financially free.

Poker is going well though, looking forward to posting end of month results. GL at the tables!!

I feel your frustration at work. I go thru the same thing wrt the political ass kissing, and me being someone who can’t bring myself to be fake (I have a hard time just being social sometimes), it pretty much kills your movement. Like you I feel like I do an amazing job when it comes to work itself, but in reality that only a small portion of what’s required when it comes to moving up, especially in corporate like settings.

Anyways good luck with the journey both in poker and outside. I think the AA IS a xb on the river.

I know, doesn't it drive you nuts? People align themselves with people they don't necessarily even like just to get promoted and they don't even have the right knowledge or skill set to do the job. I work for the government, but, I can imagine the same thing happens in private industry.

And thanks and likewise, good things come to those who persevere. Quitting never got anyone anywhere, so you just have to keep pressing on.

have you tried playing less tables and focusing on your decision making more?

Oh hi! Actually, yes, it's what I've been doing the last few months. There were a couple sessions where I had 7-8 tables running, but, I've been trying to keep it to 3-6, 4-5.

I'll be 3-5 tabling 10NL for the rest of September. Took a decent beating at 25NL, ran pretty awful and spewed some at short deck. I'll be staying away from that game.
