Reached my first 100000 hand milestone. Obviously, I envisioned myself already taking shots at PLO100 by this point. But it turns out, it's not that easy (for me). In this post I will talk about the journey so far. This milestone coincides with taking shots at PLO50 again, which will help a ton with the Bonus Challenge.
Here is the graph. Suffice it to say there is still a lot of work to do.
What I've learned
In the last 50k hands or so, I've stopped cBetting OOP as PFR in single raised pots. This simplification has helped me tremendously by 1) playing smaller pots when I am at a positional disadvantage and 2) protect my range over multiple streets 3) leverage my nut hands by check-raising. This might be the adjustment in my overall game that has improved my latest results the most. I think if you look at the graph you can see that at some point the red line is less steep, ever so slightly.
I'm also respecting the side cards more and more. Looking at solver sims they seem to pay super close attention to side cards.
I think my pre-flop 3-betting has gotten a tad better. When I compare my 3-bet from the blinds vs a LP open, it has definitely increased significantly the past 50k hands. 3-betting BU vs CO probably can still use some work though.
Another big thing I've gotten better at lately is not over-playing AA in 3-bet pots, specifically multiway OOP. I am much more comfortable just checking and seeing what develops or cBetting .5P with a board blocker or draw blocker and folding to a shove if the SPR doesn't seem to allow it. This has resulted in picking up more pots on the flop for cheap and (way) fewer punts. That said, I am still running quite a bit over EV. However, My EV line has not been in a downward slope in the last 50k hands, so I am already quite happy with that.
Things to improve further
First of all, I need to study more intently. I get distracted too fast still. I want to work more with PLO Visions. It's a fantastic tool, maybe the best on the market at the moment. And it's not even 100% finished yet. Although, I've noticed I'm kind of using other resources a bit less. Should continue to watch P&E's regularly.
I need to get more familiar with leading ranges in both SRP and 3BP. Checking range OOP in SRP is fine as a simplification at micro stakes, but if I am to reach midstakes my strategy probably needs to be more refined.
My preflop game is still lacking. I'm playing quite tight overall, which is correct for a noob like me, but eventually I want to expand into attacking more spots.
Postflop I am certainly over-folding to double barrels and stuff, but given the passive nature of these games it might be correct. Also my IP as PFR in SRP strategy needs to be more aggressive. I think if I focus more on side cards, I will find more cBets and barrels.
All in all, I am happy to say that I am still on my first deposit.
What's Next
I will continue the same pattern in July, but August and September I will be traveling, which means no PokerStars. I can try to find live PLO games here and there. Updates from these sessions will certainly be included. But even without the volume, I plan on continuing the study grind so I won't be as rusty when I return. This study grind would be a combination of theory vids and PLO Visions sessions. The goals won't change: Reach crusher status at PLO200z by the end of the year and shot PLO500z in Q1 of 2020.
The journey through THE GREAT GAME has been thoroughly enjoyable so far. LMFG
