Hey all, I've been playing live and online for about 12 years with varying amounts of success...pretty average reg with IMO good potential. A quick summary of my life is that I'm a part time student studying counseling. I'm also married, a permaculturalist, a rock climber and bicyclist, and an all around sober hippy.

Part of my potential as a poker player (and counselor) is an understanding of my own inner world, and the inner world of others. I also value and and have a knack for statistics, love non-video gaming, and don't mind risk or variance.

My point with this thread is to keep myself accountable with bankroll management (one of my biggest leaks by far), post some hands, update results, muse on life, and hopefully get some advice.

Right now I have about $40 and am playing $1 6 player hyper turbos and plo5 on Ignition.

Wish me luck!

Would highly recommend not playing PLO5 on a $40 roll.

At $40 I buy in for $2, and it is the lowest game that ignition runs. Also, $40 isn't scared money for me, can always reload if need be. Would you suggest a different game or site? Thanks for the feedback!

Def don't buyin for $2. You'll get rekt by the rake. Not interested in NLH?

Is rake more significant for a $2 vs $5 BI at the same level? I love NLH, just have played SO much in my life that I find plo and plo8 to be a bit more interesting. I would be thrilled if people played all of the other games at microstakes also.

How do you feel about $1 6 seat hyper turbos with a $.05 rake? It seems like a better rake than the cash games at this level. It might be a good idea for me to just grind these only until I get enough roll for plo.

Thanks a bunch for your interest, I value your opinion

Yeah micro PLO is notably a rake trap regardless. The hypers would prob be your best bet, should be pretty EZ gaim at that level. Maybe play some micro MTTs if they run on that site too.

Good luck! A lot of pros got really good at SNGs and that propelled their career (like Tom Dwan and Jonathan Little). But PLO is too much fun for me to stay away from

On consideration of rake, I've switched to the $1 hyper turbos. Currently sitting on $28 after some poor bank roll and pay off decisions on zone. I'll say this now, I will only play the sngs until my roll can support cash again, so help me god.

Instead of posting hands, which are relatively uninteresting on a 500 chip hyperturbo, I'll ask a general question.

What is your general opening and calling ranges in the early stages of the sng..like at the 10-20 or 15-30 level. Are you trying to get an advantage by playing small ball, or waiting till the blinds go up so you can play solid shove/fold poker?

What's up guys, Han Smith here. I have one more week of grinding before school starts back up. Still sitting at about $25. I got PT4 to prove to myself that I'm running bad And it's true! About 6000 chips under expected!!! Going to keep at it, things will turn around.

General question for early stage of a hyper turbo. 6max, starting stack 500, blinds go up every 3 minutes. What do you do in the first two rounds with hands like QJo, ATo, or 44 from middle position? If unopened I tend to 3x it. Any thoughts appreciated!

School is starting back up on Monday. I'm taking Psychopathology and Theories of Counseling. Already have about 200 pages of reading due for the first week! I focused on that for the last two days and have a good plan to finish the rest in a timely and low stress fashion. The book that I read today is a history of psychiatric diagnosis and an analysis of the broadening of modern diagnostic criteria. Interesting stuff.

Anyhow, I worked today (which only helped cement further my desire to play cards full time). Then I came home and started grinding the 1 + .05 6max hypers and husngs. Ended up 31 buyins! Current BR at $56. I can't download HH until tomorrow, but will put them in a graph and post it then. Peace and blessings out there

Having tech trouble with the ignition hand converter, so still no graphs. Running pretty good though...BR up to 70

I also got the $2 free on global and am playing cash there. Going to do the $30 per month mail in thing as well.

Otherwise I'm in the thick of school, have plenty to read and write. GL out there

I'm seeing that I've developed good fundamentals over the last 12 years. While there is of course always lots of room for improvement, by far my biggest leaks have been tilt and poor bankroll management. If I can plug these, I have no doubt that I will be at low to mid stakes in short order.

That being said, I just started an absolutely awesome class today. It also looks to be highly engaging and time intensive. If I want to keep putting school first, which is definitely +life EV, then my grinding time will have to go down for the next 12 weeks. Really good problem to have

I accidentally donked off about $10 playing slots and blackjack on ignition...thought it was coming straight from bonus money..nope. Anyways, been crushing the $1 hypers, am around $75 BR. Am really tempted to take a 5BI shot at $5 hypers...but in the name of sticking to my original goal of good BR management I'm going to wait. Still having trouble with the ignition hand converter, going to have tech support team view onto my comp on saturday. gl out there

Running and playing well at 6max hypers and husng. Going to stick with my strict br management even though I can rationalize taking a shot at the next level sooner.

Also, I've been playing cash on global, grinding the free $2. Ran it up last night and decided to put half my roll on the table because a huge fish was there. Cliffs is I'm back down to my initial $2.

BANKROLL MANAGEMENT MUST BE MY RELIGION!!!!

That overwhelming urge to donk off $100 at plo is what keeps poker alive. Recognizing this in myself is beyond critical.

Been playing cash on global because I can keep a table going in the background while I do homework. If I play tight, full ring, its a slow and steady profit. The second I buy in full, get tilted, or run really good, I just donk it all off. So so bad. I'm pretty easily beating the ignition micro hypers so far but my cash game needs some serious work and discipline.

Otherwise I've committed to 30 minutes of yoga per day and am changing into an office roll at the restaurant where I work. Also, school is blowing my mind. Psychology is so cool.

Went full donk mode on global plo, busted my account :/ guess I just get the gambool sometimes.

But I did learn some important lessons.

One is that for me, when there is a whale at my table, I don't need to play every junk hand just to get in there with them. Much better to keep it locked down, OMC, nit, grinder 24/7. Way lower variance. I've been thinking in terms of fishing metaphors. As soon as some mail in $weeps builds up I'll jump back on global. Something about that site makes me want to gamble and I'm sure its the same for others.

Ignition on the other hand is going great. Cruised to $108 playing the $1 hypers mostly. Now I'm back to playing zone and doing really well there also. Going to take a shot at $5 hypers when I'm feeling in top form. Really glad I didn't do it tonight cause I busted like 7 times with the best hand. Feels a lot better when I know I'm making good decisions and I'm on an extremely conservative bank roll. Run Good Play Good on zone covered those losses and then some.

For school I'm researching the psychobiology of emotional regulation. So incredibly interesting and relevant to poker/life.

GLGL out there

My shot at nl10 zone is going well, BR up to 140. Think I'll switch from hyper's to the DONs but am enjoying cash games. I also think I need some more serious ICM work to beat this level. I have a good idea of what I'm doing but need to put some time into analysis to progress.

Really need to add more sleep and paper writing into my life.
