Going from MTT to Ring 50nl

I started online poker online pokerstars as a SitNGo player pre Black Friday and after BF, I went to Merge and continued the trend but moved to MTTs. I didn't play so well. I continued to play in MTTs and being a poker student of poker for the past two years.

I went to my evaluation of my game and with a full time job and kiddies I decided to quit MTT and focus on my ring game. I want to focus on 25nl and 50nl for that is where I have seen a graph going up instead of down.

I wonder if there are others that moved from MTT and move to ring games? Also have u found yourself seeing improvement to your BR as a result. MTTs are fun I do admit but it took a toll on my BR.

The challenge for me is to play Rung through the month of June in 25nl/50nl and only ring 6 max. I want to have a 5bb/100 winrate by the end of June and want to put in 25k of hands by the end of June.

Gl me.

Re: Going from MTT to Ring 50nl

I will update regularly. I started just yesterday with s very small session. I am probably do a smallish session today and will post my graph up later this afternoon. It is too small of a sample but again, it's just starting.

On Sunday's is my poker study day. Since I my focus is on ring and not MTTs. I am going to use the day to study and experiment on small sessions.

I will share my knowledge a bit on how I am going to study and if you have thoughts to further advance I am definitely open. I start a session pulling up my hand history of each day of a session. I watch the session and the purpose is to mark sessions. Once I mark sessions, then I further research the hands with poker stove and then bring in. The true decision of if I call raise or fold. The key is mark and I hope to get better at this as I am not very good at this.

I also am going to look at getting a subscription for a good training sites. I have been unlucky in the past for all I have seen lately is training on zoom games and The site I play on doesn't offer it. I am an American and I am not a fan of Bovada.

So more posting on where I am soon.

OP I think your thread is suited better for PG&C (Poker Goals & Challenges) - I'll move the thread there in a while if you don't object.

Re: Going from MTT to Ring 50nl

Here is my current ring results right now since the beginning of June. It's a very small sample size for I haven't been playing too much. I hope that I get 25K hands in by the end of the month a 5bb/100 hands.

Re: Going from MTT to Ring 50nl

Sometimes I just hate going through hand histories which is what I did all day today of my games. It does allow me to see where I do need to improve. I have put the questionable hands in for review on the subscribed training site that I participate in.

I ran through videos and what I am seeing most in on ring games lately on training sites are zoom games which I don't play for I am on ACR and they arn't set up for Zoom. I went ahead and found that even though I don't play zoom, it allows for more hands come up in different spots faster than watching a video of 6 max or full tables so that has been good. It seems the strat would be the same but faster to get hands in is all.

I am hoping this would be a good thread of seeing how a former MTT player that moves over to ring can work. In MTT, i was a TAG player but as I have stated, I had a hard time adjusting toward the bubble. I see that many TAG players when they don't transition to play a bit more wide hands towards antes, then they are often get left in the dust unless they hit a spirt of run goods on their premiums and broadways and 99+, A9o+, A7s+ and Broadways through the run. One bad beat and I just tank to where I have no chips left so I am either bubbled or min cash. Not often did I final table but I did pretty well with getting close each time.

I find 6max zoom and 6max reg tables to be different, so be sure to adjust.

GL, zoom is a tricky beast. Once you figure out each limit and adjust, it's payday central though.

Re: Going from MTT to Ring 50nl

Let me rephrase. The only American site that has zoom is Bovada and I play on ACR so I play 6 max and full ring. Mostly 6 max. No zoom

Re: Going from MTT to Ring 50nl

I have decided for now, since I am coming from MTT background and even though my bankroll would allow for 50nl, i have decided to stick with doing majority of 25nl. I am harvesting the training sites and getting some assistance from friends and feel like I need to trend upwards first in 25nl. I agree with this and have stepped down in stakes. It does seem that the 25nl on ACR is a bit fishy so that helps.

My little bit of time in 50nl has been really sparce anyway for the games aren't frequently going as well as 25nl. This is the nature of US based games. I miss those Pokerstars days in the US where we could utilize table selection. There is no such thing as table selection on ACR.

I am still ramping up in my game but my sample size is still very small. I am still learning the trade of cash games on my poker training site. I am working on my range building for I am seeing a bit difference in ranges than what I had with MTT's.

So far, I am finding it freeing actually moving away from MTT's. I give an example... In a MTT game, when you throw 20 bucks in a game and play 4 hours or so and bust out and you make nothing (Bust before the bubble), then you lose the 20 bucks. Say in ACR, you re enter the tourney with the starting stack 4 hours later, your blinds are shallow and depending if you Late Reg and where in the tourny, you go in shallow and also a bit tilted as you just busted out. With cash, its deep and when you rebuy after you stack off, you go back in deep which gives you time to re adjust. As a MTT player going in on ring and that happens, the tilt isn't as bad for me as a MTT player, the tilt value of the losing of stack isn't so bad if you are winning player. What do you guys think? I love the feedback to this thought.

Re: Going from MTT to Ring 50nl

Two days ago I had a bad session and lost four buy ins. I left the table and was beyond my stop loss of two buttons for the day. This is something new to me for I haven't played ring. I know there is a bit of variance but I basically got ran over.

I stopped and looked back at my hands and I seriously played like a donkey. I had ranged wrong totally and realized I wasn't feeling well that day. I also noticed since I am still new to ring and my hands are only showing 1500 hands and I was up 44bb/100. After this death day, the chart went way way down and tilted the rest of my deposit roll.

I am so glad that I do this. I deposit only what my stop loss is. I deposit with my credit card that is loaded with my poker bankroll, i deposit on the day of 4 buyins and at the end of the day, I withdraw with bitcoin and rinse and repeat each session. This day, I lost all 4 of my buyins and for the first time, I hit my stop. I have decided to stop and assess and then hit it again next week. I plan on taking off this weekend and hit it mid next week and hit the books and videos.

Wonder if I am just being a donk or is this normal in ring?

Re: Going from MTT to Ring 50nl

4 buy ins is normal, 10 buy ins is normal 20+ buy ins happens, depositing every time when i loose 4-5 bis would tilt the **** out of me. Why don`t you deposit at least 20bis? It`s surprising you are impressed with variance when you could go on a 1000MTT loosing stretch only due to variance and you say you played MTTs

Re: Going from MTT to Ring 50nl

I guess I was used to the high variance to MTTs so that I knew it's the nature of the beast.

I am looking at those very hands and see that i am glad however I stopped playing after the 4 buyins. I think my issue is of course being tilted due to losing the daily roll that probably effected me more than losing as I look back at it. In Ring you can swing negative normally in a day or swing the opposite but I guess the issue I had was tilt.

If I looked at my rate for the week, I had 3 days of good solid uptick and It was freakin awesome and then reality struck me dead. I just have to be honest with myself. Back to the drawing board.

Re: Going from MTT to Ring 50nl

I have taken a little break reading up some Jarod Tendler and catching some good vidz. I am feeling really good about a new attitude and ready to get back at it.
I am really seeing a mental leak in my mindset dealing with results. My results are way off that is setting me up literally for failure.

I am going to try and not have daily $$ results. This is huge problem for me. My daily results should be volume and get rid of my C and D game and think and play optimally.
I also am moving rooms. It will be bovada. I need volume and that is the only place I can go for zoom like tables. So I am moving rolls which I am going from Bitcoin to cash. Lol. Nice to see Bitcoin hit up so waiting for deposit in account to deposit.

What does the community think of Zoom/Zone? It seems that majority of cash videos are done on tables that have fast fold. I am an American player so I don't have too many options. Bovada seems to be the the best for ring and largest American site.

Re: Going from MTT to Ring 50nl

Fast poker has lower winrates, and bigger swings. It's more of a rakeback grind imo.

Re: Going from MTT to Ring 50nl

thanks Landlord. I am going to be on Bovada so it it's not a rake back thing. I am also mixing in some SitNGos in my game so we shall see. I also have bought a coach too so now lets see how that works.

Re: Going from MTT to Ring 50nl

Deposit has been made at Bovada. I didn't realize how soft it is. I am going to run a BRM challenge for myself on Bovada and will share it with the group.

Starting roll is $100.00. I'd like to share it with you all and just tell you my experience overall. I hope this thread will be of help and also be a bit entertaining as I go along.

I have had a decent weekend overall. I am really working on my tilt and the temptation to recoup my losses. I have a tendency to do that and I am looking at poker a bit different. I want to stay as nitty on my bankroll management for I don't intend to deposit anymore on bovada so this is what it is.

My decision of games right now is 5nl (which is the lowest i can find on ring) and 1.10 SitNGo and throw in some small $1 and very rare 2 MTT tourneys. I will not move up until i see myself at least $250. When I get up to 250, then i will go up in SnG games.

I took on a coach to assist me with my game a bit and also am a RunItOnce member. I have decided to not be so horrible at poker. I want to take the game seriously or I wouldn't be writing this. I hope to see this as a journal.

One thing is I am capable to be a good poker player. I see myself as this very post will be a beginning of a very successful run. Here are the things that I need to keep in mind.

-Be real with myself.
-Make good decisions is a long term +Ev than trying to win in a short term to raise the roll immediately.
-Be humble and keep learning
-Play within my BR.
-Poker players have A B C D poker tendencies. I am working on getting rid of my D game, my C game.

My thoughts on Bovada is this... Zone games are difficult to play for you can't get any reads on players. 5 new players at each hand means I have no reads on them. I am winning on the game but feel like I would make much more money if i played regular ring game. I am totally missing Pokerstars Zoom games.

Re: Going from MTT to Ring 50nl

I have done well on Bovada and feel like I will just stay there. I have my old HEM2 HUD back. I have settled into the games there. I have moved back to the Ring games for I see myself much more profitable there. My original roll started at 100.00 and now at 244 bucks. I have cheated just a tad bit for I pushed up the ring games like a donk and thank God I was on the good end. I bought in for $50 in the 100nl game. I was up to $103 grinding and then I was on the good end of the board with my 99 vs AKo (fishy on my left) on a x9K board (x raised all in shove fest) and then turned a K on the turn which we got a big pot all in and I held. Then i felt really bad for I now messed up my chart way off in the stratosphere.

I had I am sure there are plenty of 2+2ers that did the very same thing as me. I am happy that my roll doubled but at the same time, I feel really ... oh well got to admit, feel really good about it.

With 244 bankroll, it allows me to move into the 25nl with a good feeling of the game. Before moving up, I am going to hit up some strat videos.
