Hello players,
My name is Rob and I'm 35 from Toronto. I have a career job, wife of 10 years, 3.5 year old son and a baby girl on the way in April. All in all, life is good.
I have played poker in some form or another since I was like 12 years old, used to be home games with my Dad and Uncles for nickles and dimes. When the poker boom happened I was 'all in' as they say. We had a circle of about 20 guys and we'd play a tournament pretty much every night. From that circle I considered myself one of the top 3 players and the money I won helped me pay my rent and paid for entertainment. I actually bought my wife's engagement ring with poker winnings.
I've had some success in live tournaments, been to Vegas a couple times for some min-cashes and played north of the border but no real big scores.
Obviously life got in the way and I wasn't able to play as much, bought a house in the burbs to settle down. I still played mostly online for kicks but haven't taken it seriously for some time...until now.
My goal is to play in the WPT Niagara Fallsview event in late February. I'd like to buy-in with just my poker roll, but if I need to suplement that with 'real world' money I can do that. I use good BR management, but since I have a real job it's not the end of the world to me if I blow it all trying to make one major score. With the baby coming in April I figured life is over after that so if something is going to happen it must be before then, LOL.
I've been playing DoN sngs on Bodog with great success. I cash about 58% of the time and play 4 at once. Right now I'm playing $10.50 games but after about 900 or so showing a regular profit I'm ready to move up to the $21 games. With about 9 weeks to go until the start of February, at my current win rate I'd profit somewhere in the $300/week range for about $2400. Obviously that's not enough for the $5000 buy-in, so my plan is to play a MTT once a week with my (hopeful) winnings.
I'm a realest about this. I'm not counting on a career in poker, although a WPT title may change that. I just want to take that shot as I've got the time and the bankroll to do it.
I'm not much for posting so you won't see any hand histories, but I'll try to post after my sessions with my +/-.
Looking for some support and with any luck you'll see me on the WPT.

Rob

Wanted to start this thread on Dec 1st but missed by a day.
Played a session last night and won 11/17 for a $41.50 profit. This was at $10.50 games, might wait until the weekend for the $21 games.

Hi Rob

Good luck. I also am planning to build a bankroll to play in the WPT at Fallsview. Goal is to get enough to play in the 1.1k, which is more realistic for me. You may also want to check out partypoker. I saw a post on their facebook page that satellites for the WPT Fallsview 5k are starting at the end of December running until early February.

Poor session I feel tonight 9/18 for -$9.
Felt like I was rushing it instead of letting the action come to me. Also took some horrific beats.
But, not playing particularly well and a less than average run of cards and still 50% only losing rake, can't be too upset.
Back at it tomorrow.

Had a so-so weekend.
8/15 on Friday, 10/16 Saturday and 13/20 tonight. Total 31/51 for a profit of $84.50.
Also took some shots at $21 games and went 7/14 and lost $14 in rake.
Total profit of $70 for the weekend.
I'd like to give more of the $21 tables a go but I'm hitting on 60% of the $10.50s so it's hard to move away.
Going to try and play 100 of these this week then take a shot at something big on Sunday.

Last night was draining...won my first 2 games then lost 8 in a row. That's the most I've lost in a row since I started keeping track of these. Don't feel I played poorly at all but took a huge amount of bad beats, I don't have my log with me but out of the 11 games I lost I was 4th in probably 7-8 of them.
After that I regrouped and ended up 11/22 to end up -$11.
I can at least keep my head up that I took that beating and was able to keep focused and grind out the rest of the night and in the end just lost the rake.
Hoping for a better run tonight.

Wanted to bump my own thread.
I was working my roll up nicely really killing the DoNs, over the holidays took some shots at some MTTs with very minimal success so back down a little bit.
Sitting at about $1700, hoping to get it up to the $5000 for the WPT buy-in. Lofty goal maybe but still trying, if I don't get there the fallback is to play a smaller event.

Good luck to all in 2016.
