Why did you check AA OTT? Were villains that nitty? So sick to see you folding a lot, I used to fold a lot but always thought I was getting ran over by everyone.

Why do you say 44 is a yolo call pre? Most solvers think it's bad, but that hand overperforms vs population imo, specially vs more passive players and people who have a hard time folding TP in 3bp.

Far from an expert but don’t think solvers dislike 44, from what I’ve seen with solvers 44 is still a peel at like mid to low freq

Folding is the key to small stakes. Less so at 200nl, but to crush 100nl you have to be a master folder in my opinion.

I mean I'm just making up preflop as I go along. Pair of 4s is weak though.

Also re-reading Fooled by Randomness at the moment, by Taleb, and thought this passage
on a investor/ dentist was worth sharing:

2 key takeaways for me:

1) Looking at results less often is clearly GTO following the above logic; limit exposure to the negative variance and pain by only exposing ourselves to bigger samples, over which we are more likely to have been successful.


2) As poker players, we obviously know short term results are essentially random - yet we cannot help but be affected by them. No matter how little I look at results, I'll actually waste mental energy trying to work out if I'm up or down in a session. I'll see a day graph from another reg and subconsciously down/ upgrade him based on it. I recently spoke to one of the bitB mental game coaches who told me that on average a loss is 2.5x more painful than an equivalent win is joyful.

We can avoid results, but assuming we can't avoid the feeling of losing, poker is going to leave you with fairly big emotional deficiencies (Even a really successful player doesn't have 2.5x more winning days than losing days.) I guess this is a bit of ramble, but only solution I can come to is try to be as zen as possible, and have enough things in my life to fill that gap outside of poker.

Interested to hear any other thoughts.

Pretty sweet passage and solid analogy. My input would be that the only thing not considered is what about the utility a person gets from seeing how their portfolio is doing compared with the uncertainty they may feel from having no idea whether or not their portfolio is + or -.

This is prob more of a pedantic post - its clearly terrible to struggle with uncertainty one day from the next if you dont know how your portfolio is doing. You prob should question your motives to invest if struggling with this - altho its parallel to poker might work slightly better than the investing example

Yeah I definitely hear you. I think investing wise it's easier to just de-couple yourself with time - first few days with 100k indexed will be exponentially harder than the 1000th day. I think as you can truly be a passive investor, you can learn to cope with it with minimal stress.

Poker is much more hands on and almost impossible to not have a feeling about how you are doing minute on minute or hour on hour, so I think your point stands more there. Not checking results could actually generate more stress than just knowing, also something me and Bena discussed in our podcast/ chat/ interview.

Got pretty burnt today - and to be honest completely lost focus after a good start.

I think I'm going to have take it easy for a few days, with videos, coaching, studying and putting in volume definitely a bit of burn out. Will reduce volume Friday Sat and take Sunday off completely I think.

Month to date as I caved and checked results at the end of the session this evening. Pretty sure some TA boys can come in and tell me what's going to happen next.

I think this is due to me recording a hand on my instagram story. A couple of points I'd like to make:

1. I know a lot of others doing similar trying to provide content - obviously be aware not to post your HUD in any hands you post.

2. If you see anything that upsets you, send me a message or reply to the instagram. Highly probable I will just delete it.

3. I genuinely am trying to give something back here. I'm not trying to play the hero, but I've got plenty of acquaintances within poker who have resorted to multi accounting chinese sites on the same table, pirating videos etc. Since making this thread I've replied to 10+ PM's in detail giving general advice, help people with hands and life etc. Honestly I pity whoever reported this, must be a very angry individual, but please please just send me a message, I am not unreasonable.


Poker wise, on a fairly substantial downswing since the last update. After this month will be considering really reducing Stars volume, honestly pretty fearful about inadvertently breaking TOS now and losing funds.

That is just complete nonsense. What about all the streamers playing with HUDs?

I got a similar ban for apparently grimming. Apologised, told them I didn't mean it etc.

Checked my HM2 and found that in the last 3 months I had played exactly the same SB's and BB's.

Its absolutely mind-boggling someone would actually report you for something so ****ing trivial, especially when you're one of the most helpful and nicest people in the community.

I guess you cant keep more than a few buyins on stars from now on, who knows in what other ridiculous way you could break their ToS.

Yeah - I don't want this to become an anti-stars bandwagon because there is no doubt PokerStars remains the best place to play poker on the internet.

I'm also doing everything in my power to ensure I don't break TOS obviously, it is just easy to make a mistake with things like this, I honestly didn't even think about it.

It is what it is, I'll keep contributing here, building bitB Cash - and there are other places to play. I think starting some form of stream in preparation for RIO launch may well be the direction to go in.

Not a fun last few days in the best games of the year - avoiding posting hhs because mostly standard set over set, KK vs AA. 25 BI down from peak now, but a couple of days to go, can hopefully bag a few more charity $ before the New Year.
