Grinding Past the Fries - Poker Blogs and Goals -- Two Plus Two Poker Forums

Hello all,

My contract at work finished at the end of March there, and before looking for a new one I've decided to take a couple of months out to see if I can make a living playing poker. If not successful, I can find work no problem, so I'll give it a few months and see how I do. My aim is to move up past 50NL and into the higher limits, whilst still withdrawing regularly to pay for things in my personal life (got a few holidays etc coming up). The month of April was good but not great, so starting fresh from 1st May, I am motivated and committed to the cause!

Yesterday's graph...

I felt like I played well yesterday, I lost 100% of flips, so perhaps didn't run as well as I could have. I did get my AA in pre once or twice and held, though.

Again, I played quite well today, but never played all that long. I had a golf competition (waste of time), might play a bit later on tonight.

Thanks for the responses already everyone. A bit of background info, I've usually played 10NL, 25NL, certainly never crushed but did ok. I binked an MTT for 4k in November and went to Vegas with my brother, came back busto (and then some) but was well worth it. I started playing again around February and immersed myself in studying, watching vids on RIO (Lucas Greenwood & James Hudson in particular were completely eye opening), read forums etc, and really improved my game. I'm holding my own at 50NL but I have one day every week or so where I tilt hard. But anyway!

Today's session was a short one, only 1200 hands. Feeling really tired after golf this morning (another waste of time), and didn't get off to a great start. Managed to get into the black and decided to quit while I was ahead!

Interesting hands, I think the first 3 were unknown villains but 4th villain does stuff like this all the time. The first two kinda set the tone for the session, but I grinded it back well. Fairly certain hand 3 is a fold, but keen to hear if anyone thinks otherwise. Also, if we were 100bb deep, how would we play the rest of the hand?

A rough couple of days, feeling a bit frustrated. A few hands below that are just bad beats more than anything, but yeah, slapped about by the deck a fair bit. The vertical drop at the end for about $80 was an insta-snap for like 3x pot with Adx on a 5d6d2dQc8d runout, he had 79dd, and I didn't even see it!

I felt like I was just trying to buy every pot and at the weekends in particular vs fish who can't fold bottom pair that just ain't gonna work. Played the 3 low SCOOPs, bust out of one with a 3 barrel bluff that was never gonna work, and the 2nd one with KK vs the absolute monster that is 108s pre-flop, can't remember about the turbo one. Played the $11 rebuy and cashed for about $90 in 147th. A10 vs QK for a big stack, of course I lost

Villain is a very solid reg, no idea wtf he is doing here. It doesn't show up in the converter but we ran it twice, he rivered a flush both times.

Back to winning ways today, feel a bit relieved to be honest! Played the $5.50r SCOOP, 7 bullets (where's that embarrassed smiley...) and busted with blinds at 100/200 w QQ against J10 on a Jxx flop, oh well!

Grabbed a couple of hands from today, in hindsight I can't remember why they were all that interesting, I'll post them anyway...

Another short session today, my girlfriend and I are moving house this week so a bit too busy. As for the session, I lost 3 all ins in the first 50 hands or so, and just wasn't feeling it at all. Didn't tilt (starting to control that, thankfully) and just grinded it back. Not sure how I ran, kept getting my AA cracked, but got set over set in my favour twice.

I played some MTTs last night after reading through some PG&C threads from MTT grinders, very interesting stuff. Played about 8 total, 2 cashes, and one that threatened to go super deep but lost yet another flip at the crucial point. Played some Zoom before the MTTs and made about $70ish over like 500 hands. As for the MTTs, I've restricted my Stars account to prevent me from playing any for the next few days. I will watch a few vids on RIO before playing any more, as I think I'm -EV in them.

Roll is at $1245, 32,662 FPPs (I aim to make 3500 a day, made about 2k total in the last 2 days), and Zoom profit for the month is $372.61.

Yesterday was moving day. I tried to cram in an hour or two before the chaos, it went well enough but dropped into the red towards the end and had to give up for the day...

For the month so far...

A profit of $357 so far. Not great, but not terrible. I've been a bit stressed with moving house and my sleep pattern hasn't been great. Up early and back to it for the whole day today! As for yesterday, felt like I played really well and ran well too, just never managed to show a good return. Going to start posting hands that are poorly played, no point only posting the good uns! I can call the 1st x/shove but not when 2nd villain overcalls, BUT they're both fish so maybe I can? In hindsight I just felt like I'm rarely good there and should've just folded. Also flop sizing is bad too, should be about $12.50+

Today's graph on a very frustrating day...

At the lowest point (about 2500 hands) I stopped for 2/3 hours and just chilled out. Came back re-focused and grinded into a good profit for the day. A little disheartened, as the day had a lot of potential early on. I played 3 300bb pots today...

Also a few coolers (the last hand is gross), I don't wanna whine about runbad but not once did I suck out on someone today. Some hands...

As for the best regs, there's a fair few, guys like Kustyk90, Ty4UrChips, GooRukYONG, ACMilanFan, TiagoFerreir etc are all very solid, I've got about 40 marked as 'good reg'. Sorry to hear about your DS, gotta lose that $ sometimes!

Today was a swingy day, up and down all day...

I feared the worst after 4500 hands, thought it was gonna be one of "those days" but rallied well to recover. A little bit of tilt in the first 1500 hands but took a quick break and came back focused. Some hands...

There was another hand that I meant to note today, was a lol-call for 200bbs, never noted it and can't be bothered going back into my HEM just now to get it, I had AA, squeezed and villain x/raised a 210Jcc flop. I should've folded but jammed for the rest hoping to be flipping, villain obvs had a set.

+$535 for the month. Roll at $1400 now and 39,387 fpps. Gonna cash in the $600 bonus for 40k fpps and withdraw everything above $1500. Also will play the SCOOP $27 tonight, then re-block MTTs from the client.

1,5 bb winner which is marginal i admit but it's winning. I play poker long enough to recognize good or (in my recent case) extreme bad variance. No handposting Will prove anyone's point. Enough better players then myself who had +50 downswings at fe 100nl.
