Hey guys,

welcome to my PGC Thread!

I started this to keep tracking my results and keep me focused and motivated. I will post hand reviews, especially spots where it was hard for me to get a decision.

My Situation
I'm 25 years old, currently living in a small town in germany. I work 9+ hours every day in a relatively well paid job. I have started to put about 1,5k € on a bank account for savings every month. Maybe one day this will be my bankroll for the higher stakes, but lets see...
I have 5 or 6 casinos in a 100km range where I use to play some times.

I have been playing poker on and off for like 2 years now. I have mainly played MTTs with an average buy in of ~10$, plus some NL10 Zoom online. Live, I use to play NL200 to NL400 and some MTT with 50-150€ BI.

The Goal
-Building a solid mindset (discipline) towards poker (lately, I sometimes have been playing in a bad mood, too high buyin or on mobile)
-Improving in MTTs by studying, hand review, etc
-Reach an avg ROI at least 17% after 1000 MTTs
-Build the Roll and travel to vegas for some WSOP 2018 side events

The Plan
-Min 1 hour of study every day
-Keeping this thread updated
-1 live tournament per week
-Grinding MTTs whenever i can find the time
-I will add some Zoom sessions since its easy for building a bankroll and does not need as much time as a tourney session
-Maybe I will get myself a couch, but have not been looking for one, yet. I appreciate every recommendation.

Bankroll

1000€ Live
200€ Online

Latest Live session was yesterday. Played a bounty tournamet in a local cardroom with buy in of 35€ (20+10+5). Big Rake but the field is incredibly soft there.
Finished first for 321€ + 80€ bounties.

Interesting hand on the FT: [some values are estimated]

Blinds 2500/5000 No Ante

SB posts SB 2500
BB[55.000] posts BB 5000
UTG+1 fold
MP1[150.000] [Hero] is dealt K K raise 3BB
MP2 fold
Hijack[70.000] call 3BB
Button fold
SB fold
BB call 3BB

Flop: 2 5 9

BB raises ~50.000 and is all in, Hero raises 150.000 and is all in, Hijack folds and shows A J

A discussion broke out at the table if this was a good or a bad fold. What do you guys think?

Cheers

You never fold nutFD with 9bb left. You also never just flat in there unless behind is extremly small stack. Gl in your journey OP

I'm on a similar MTT challenge as you OP, so good luck in yours. Really hope you achieve your goals.

I don't think 9 BB's should even factor in to the call, cause he even has the pot odds to make it profitable I think. Then add on he is super short with a draw to the nuts.

Hey Guys!

Have not been able to play a lot due to private stuff. Spend most free time to study short stack play.

Last session I managed to ship a 4,40$ Splash Tournament on PS for ~350$.

It was the first time for me to play a tournament with the splash structure. I thought it was a HORRIBLE structure since its push/fold most of the time. I actually improved very much at short stack play lately but anyway, if I want that I play SNGs.

BUT, I thought that its possible to achieve an incredible winrate at splash tournaments. Many players make a ReBuy for 3000 chips when BB is already 1000 or even 1500, push any hand and repeat this over and over. Would be great to get an opinion from somone who plays splash on a regular base.

Interesting hand:

Poker Stars $6.82+$0.68 No Limit Hold'em Tournament - t350/t700 Blinds + t90 - 8 players

Hero (MP1): t19988 M = 11.29
MP2: t6090 M = 3.44 [no stats]
CO: t10011 M = 5.66
BTN: t9770 M = 5.52
SB: t27842 M = 15.73
BB: t24812 M = 14.02 [15 VPIP, 10PFR, 3.6 3B]
UTG: t10571 M = 5.97
UTG+1: t3261 M = 1.84

Pre Flop: (t1770) Hero is MP1 with 9 9
2 folds, Hero raises to t2450, MP2 raises to t6000 all in, 3 folds, BB raises to t24722 all in, 1 fold

Flop: (t15520) 6 8 7 (2 players - 2 are all in)

Turn: (t15520) 5 (2 players - 2 are all in)

River: (t15520) 2 (2 players - 2 are all in)

This was a tough decision. I would have called TT+ but I ended up folding 99. I am ahead of many Ax in viallains range, and its likely that the two Villains take out some of each others outs.

Bankroll Update:

965€ Live
~625€ Online

Here we go again!

The MTT grind is going slow, but at least I am breakeven there.

Besides MTTs I started to play 6max hypers. I bought the course of raise your edge and improved a lot. the content seems solid but I have to finish the course to tell if its worth the money.

Anyway, i ran pretty hot after the first 166 games:

I know I will not be able to maintain 20% ROI
but this is a great push to keep motivated.

For the mindset, I have started to meditate which will get me in the right mood before play and pushes overall confidence and determination.

Today I had the worst session since I play Poker. No single Flip was won, no draw completed and I am close to getting crazy. Of course this led to me playing a little ****ty in some spots so I decided to stop the session. Costed me a third of my bankroll.

Maybe I have to rethink my BRM, actually I have average buy ins of 3-5$. I heard a single MTT should not exceed 0.5% of whole bankroll. Sounds a little too conservative to me but i have seen how bad of a downswing can hit.

After turning off the PC, smoking a johnny and going thought mental game of poker book I calmed down a bit.

Updates have to wait until tomorrow.

Gl to everyone
