I am a semi-regular at Foxwoods casino. I have been playing there for ten years, but have not diligently kept records of my play for any length of time until now. I have a full time job that I'm looking to move on from by May of next year. I have half-heartedly joked with friends about playing poker as a means to sustain myself, but I realized I'm not sure what I would do after this job, and poker sticks out to me as something that I'm excited about and enjoy, so I am considering taking a shot. I want to see if I can handle the strain mentally, as well as win at a high enough rate, to consider poker as a viable option this time next year.
With this in mind I started recording all of my play since January. After 250 hours of play I have won about 10k, coming in at a little over 40/hr playing a mixture of 1/2 NL, 2/5 NL, (one terrible 5/10 shot), 1/2 PLO and the occasional higher plo or plo8 game.
My goal is to reach 1,000 hours played and have a 50k bank roll.
This is a little lofty given my current win rate, but I am hoping to shore up some leaks a long the way and grow as a player.
My biggest leak currently is playing too many hands. I tend to compound this by being a bit overaggressive, both in NL and PLO. The result is that I have gone through some decent sized swings in a relatively short amount of time. I like playing LAG but need to cool it more often, and as I put in more volume this year I want to be able to get a better feel for appropriately switching gears.
I will post results after each session, and if any interesting hands come up I will include those as well.
