Just another session on Ignition this evening including one table of 50NL Zone for the start but predominately 100NL 6 max regular tables.

Nothing too exciting, yet another winning session booked though.

Did manage to pick up QQ heads up and get it in pre against AQss. Not too many terribly interesting hands. Flopped two sets and got paid reasonably with one. More volume to come.

Hopefully put in 2-3 hours a day most of the rest of the month playing online. A little burned out despite not having played much lately. Likely just a combination of grinding reasonably hard before I started the thread, binking 2nd in the $100k and having a pretty stellar year thus far in the office.

More to come. Have a great week everyone!

Definitely remember you hanging around old threads. You still grinding? And thank you for the congrats. Just goes to show that most of us playing poker for a living can cut it in the real world as well .

Hi Everyone,

I've played two more sessions since my last update, both live $2/5 at Grand Vic. I jetted out of work a bit early on both Wednesday and Thursday as I'm finally caught up and in my slow time for the next couple of weeks.

Wednesday I sat at about 1:30 PM and played til 11:30 PM finishing +$392 in those 10 hours. The table was good, playing $2/5/10 the majority of the day. Action was surprisingly best from about 3:00-5:00 PM. Doubled up early and more or less sat back after that. Lost an 85/15 for a $900 pot at one point but outside of that didn't really have any all-in confrontations or interesting hands.

Went back on Thursday for a session starting at 1:30 PM and finished up at about 5:20 for 3 hours 50 minutes played. Finished down $938.

I made a thin call with AA for a live game, once again playing $2/5/10 resulting in the loss of a monster pot but in the end I'm confident it was the right call in this particular scenario.

Straddle $850 = Aggressive LAG, solid winning player
Button $850 = Semi-Spewy LAG, marginally winning player
Hero Covers.

Hero looks down at AA in MP and opens for $45. Button Calls and Straddle calls.

Flop ($135): KJ5
Hero bets $90, Button Calls, Straddle raises to $310, Hero jams.

Seemed really close to me in game to being a fold as I think I'm rarely ahead here but villain is certainly capable of raising on the draw here.

If I range villain as: 55,AKs,AhQh,AhJh,AhTh,KJs+,K5s,QTs,Th9h,AKo,KJo

We have exactly 50% equity. I didn't really want to flat and allow button to flat if he was on the draw.

Instead we wind up getting in 3 ways with both of them having K5ss and we brick out for the ~$2,500 pot and they chop up hero's stack.

Even if we range them conservatively to gut shot straight flush draws and 2 pair+ I still don't think we can get away here (55,AKs,AhQh,AhJh,AhTh,KJs,K5s,QhTh,Th9h,AKo,KJo) as we have 44% equity.

May results thus far are below:

Anyways, I'm headed up to Wisconsin momentarily for the long weekend. Not taking a computer at all so no poker for the next few days. I'll be back in town Monday night and likely grind a little more online next week but we'll see how things pan out. Super happy with my progress thus far on the month and for hitting my hours goal. I would like to focus my June a bit more towards the Ignition online grind but we'll formalize some goals and review the month later next week.

Have a great Memorial Day weekend everyone!

May Goals Conclusion:

So May was a fun profitable month of poker in which I hit a chunk of my goals but not all.

Quote:
May Goals:
1.) Gain at least a basic understanding of PIO and run some spots
2.) Play 40 hours of NLHE cash (get back to 6 max)
3.) Time bank required before making any non-trivial river calls - I still feel like I sheriff way too often. Once I have a sample size I'll have an idea if I'm making reasonable calls.
1.) I still need to buy the paid version. On the flipside though, I did pick up PokerSnowie and have begun evaluating my online sessions in Snowie before playing the next session. It's certainly identifying some areas in my game that need improvement and I'll be focusing setting some goals to focus my study better in June.

2.) Crushed it. Played 36.5 hours of live $2/5 and 19.6 hours online.

3.) I certainly did better here and made some river folds after thinking that would have been close spots and likely calls in the past. Still not perfect in terms of making sure I really think through every spot (especially when playing online).

May Results:

Live:

Online:

Not a bad month for someone that is still a bit of an online cash game fish. Lot of work to do still but I'm still exceptionally confident in my ability to earn 10bb/100 online if I can put in the effort to refine my game.

Live has taken a bit of work to get re-acclimated and I'm still not quite playing as well as I know I can. I'm playing beyond my current poker bankroll even though I know it's re-loadable. The fact is I play like dog **** if I sit $1/2 and just need a bit of time to build up that separate live roll from online so I never sweat it.

June Goals:
1.) Identify my 2 largest leaks in my online cash game utilizing PokerSnowie and plug them.
2.) Grind at least 45 hours between online and live.
3.) Continue to focus on river situations.
4.) Stop checking my ****ing graph/results mid-session when playing online.
5.) Stretch Goal - Find a decent live MTT to play. There's a monthly $250 deepstack and $300 deepstack within 2 hours of me but that's about it. Wouldn't mind playing one if I can find a way to jet out for that Saturday or Sunday though.

Good luck in June everyone!

P.S. Just got an email from a client with the official documents to take over their medical benefits. Just dropped $25,000 in revenue to the agency and subsequently placed $7,500 in my pocket. Also the other deal I'm working worth $38k reached out this morning for a final meeting time in the next two weeks. Should have a decision from them by the end of the month!

Been a bit of a rough start to June. Dropped $1,200 in my first session of live $2/5 combined with struggling online towards the end of May was leaving me a little frustrated.

Just finished up my 2nd session of 100NL on Ignition for the month.

At least I had a decent come back towards the end of my session tonight to get me back to breakeven EV on the month.

A few hands:

Can we ever find a fold on this river? Villains entire value range on the turn/river is 66. There were a few really good spots on some of the full ring games so I did play a bit of that today. Anyways, villain was running 15/11/5 over 170 hands with reasonable post flop numbers. I don't think 54ss, 65ss, 76ss is in his button flatting range which leaves very few clubs he raises on this flop. I think 66 is really his only value hand here. If he was capable of having a king here, great spot for him to bluff but he never has AK here and I don't think he ever raises KQ on the flop.

Hey all -

Been taking it relatively easy thus far the last few days. Taking a break from live for a bit to avoid having to withdraw more from Ignition.

Presently sitting on about a $5k BR on Ignition and have decided to take a 5 BI shot at 200NL. Not too much to talk about thus far, just three hours of grind.

Sitting at 10:20 played on Ignition for the month and 11:23 live.

200NL grind on Ignition is a bit reggier, I need to get better with my table selection but the first three hours just been grinding it out with the regs. EV is +1 BI in 900 or so hands.

A few online hands from the month thus far:

Hand 1: Biggest losing hand thus far. Was expecting shorty to shove and put the button in a tough spot, when he shoves, I'm hating life but obv calling it off here.

Just taking a bunch of non-showdown pots really. Nothing too terribly exciting thus far. Have a bunch more hours to go this month along with some more PokerSnowie review. Upgraded my RIO subscription back up to Elite so I have some more decent video content to watch. +15.54evbb/100 over my first 9,095 hands of taking online NLHE seriously! WTB more volume.

As far as goals go:
Quote:
1.) One identified thus far and that is calling a bit too much to 3 bets with offsuited broadways in position.
2.) 21:43 of 45:00 played so slightly ahead of pace here but likely to fall behind over the weekend as I'll be up in Wisco with my bro and his fam.
3.) Getting better here still hero-ing off in some middling sized pots that I can likely get away from.
4.) Getting better, at least when I look now I don't really care. Still need to get better.
5.) Not sure this will happen this month.

Hopefully put in enough volume at a large enough winrate that I'm rolled to take shots @ $2/5 by year end. I'm thinking a 5 BI shot when I have 30 BIs but we'll see. Would definitely like the opportunity to move up to the highest stakes I can. If I'm going to play this lovely game and enjoy it, the money needs to be worthwhile.

Oh, last thought, had this other prospect in my office earlier today. Things went great and I'd say it's ~85% to close in the next few weeks. Should be a nice $40k revenue shot for our agency dropping $12k in my pocket. Brings me up to about $100k on the year produced which isn't bad for a guy that's not in sales .

Hey all,

Formal update to follow next week when I have some time. Short version of the last few weeks, played some 100 and 200NL on Ignition, made a little money.

Missed hours goal by loads, been a busy few weeks.

More to come later.

Too lazy to make a super detailed update, but simply put, June was a silent slow month compared to goals.

2.) Fail, closer to 30 but haven't done the exact math
3.) Success!
4.) Much better!
5.) Meh, don't care enough

I'll be taking another live shot this week (client is asking for a day in the poker room) so I'll be pulling $2,000 of what's left of my ~$5,700 Ignition roll to take a shot at $2/5. If it goes well, I may continue with some live play, if it goes poorly, I'll likely just focus online for awhile longer and play live on rare occasions. I don't have the patience for $1/2 live and don't have the bankroll for $2/5 without draining my entire online roll so it's kinda whatever.

I'd rather be able to play both but just not sure how to split the roll effectively so I can grind what I want when I play online if I'm going to do that.

I don't have any notable goals for July other than to not spew too hard or play outside of my roll. I shortstacked some good looking 500NL games yesterday but sadly lost a few hundo doing so.

I have been dabbling a little in the 200NL zone pool and am interested in improving there but I think regular 6 and 9 max will still be my go to games for awhile.

I'll be dropping 200NL out of my online play if my live shot goes poorly on Wednesday and will grind it back up at 100NL.

Live play last Wednesday went well. Entertained a client for the day, he lost about $500 playing $1/2 but had a good time. Hes a former limit crusher who hasn't really played since 2006 so all good.

Managed to swing a $1,900 profit in 13 hours of $2/5 grinding. Relatively uneventful session, just managed to not get coolered.

Been dabbling a little bit online this far this month, sadly my internet has been a little spotty so volume has been very low.

Online roll up to about $6,100 though so +$600-700 on the month in maybe 6-8 hours. A bit of that grind was also on my laptop with no HUD and DriveHuD hasn't been appreciating my attempts to import hand histories.

I'll likely continue to mix volume a bit between 200NL 6-9 max tables and 200 Zone.

Hoping to get a session in tonight but it's not for sure yet. I should get another live session in before next week as well.

Working on plans to play some WSOPc events, but likely not until 2019 as baby due in October combined with that being my busiest time of the year means I'm probably going to miss the October WSOPc at Horeshoe. Hoping to hit the re-visit in March and perhaps hit it up earlier at Pottawatomie (Milwaukee) in early Feb. Goal is to play both Main Events ($1,700) but we'll see how the BR and life roll are feeling around that time.

Enjoy your week everyone!

Played 3 sessions since last update, 2 online, 1 live (just finished).

Up about $300 online overall in 4 hours. -$500 and +$800 sessions. Nothing too crazy, ran KK into AA twice in the -$500 session.

Live tonight was rough for the bankroll but I feel I played relatively well.

Got in AA against TT and JJ on T95 rainbow. Hero limped UTG+1 in a straddled pot about $600 effective. MP1 raises to 45, MP2 and MP3 call. Folds back to hero who makes the fun limp re-raise to $200, MP2 and MP3 call. I jam flop and get called in both spots and just lol.

QJo OTB, Iso a late position limper to $25, SB (aggressive lag 3 bets to $75 about $700 effective, folds to me and I 4bet to $160. Flop AK3 rainbow, he checks I bet $110 he calls. Turn offsite T, he checks I bet $180, he jams, I snap, he has AT, river A.

Barreled off with KQo OTB. 500 eff. CO opens to 20, I 3 bet button to $65, folds to CO who calls. Flop J88ss. CO check calls a $75 bet. Turn Th, CO check calls $90. River brick, CO check calls me $260ish jam with TJo. GG.

I did get some value with AA on T6686 by triple barreling (river shove, $450 effective to start the hand). Villain was a standard loose passive who called down with 99.

All in all, down just shy of $2k and will be making a sizable withdrawal from the online roll I think to focus a little more on live and perhaps play some MTTs online again. Ignition currently sits @ $6,300 and I have no live roll! Spent the $12k I've withdrawn from Ignition on a new car for the wifey (yay for a minivan?).

In other news, my manager reminded me yesterday that it's time to recalculate my income at the real job. Should have some reports run next week but should be enough to bump my base up to somewhere between $95k and $118k. Add the guaranteed 15% annual bonus to that and my current $45k in commission and things are looking good financially.

I may wind up withdrawing my entire Ignition roll and set aside a few thousand additional from my upcoming ~$15k bonus to get me to a $10k live roll so I can feel reasonably rolled for live $2/5.

P.S. Thanks Garick, looking forward to having another squirt in the house. Now to see if I can convince the wife to go for 3!

Great question with kind of an odd answer. Typically people start in the industry in lower level service roles, account coordinator or technician and move to account manager roles then account executive roles. I somehow started on the opposite side as a producer that transitioned to an account executive. Right place, right time with the right organization I guess.

And yes. My agency is nationwide and manages more than 10 billion a year in insurance premiums for our clients.

Terrible session of Zone tonight. I think I just need to give up ever trying to play that again.

Quick after two hours down another $800 or so. Made a little back playing some regular 200NL 6 max. Sample size still small across all games but I just feel like I play terrible at zone, too much auto-pilot and no thought whatsoever. I also give the pool way too much credit I think...

Anyways, going to focus on 6-9 max 100-200NL and likely play a few tourneys again over the coming weeks as I have time!
