Hi,

Made a PGC to keep myself accountable for putting in volume and study for HU. I will play everything HU (HUNL and HUPLO) up to 400nl (or 500nl if I find a site that has that). Volume is scarce and I don't have access to stars (banned in my country) so I will take whatever action I get. Sometimes you have to wait hours before even getting a player, only for him to unsit after a short session. I would be lucky to even get 20k hands a month...

My study schedule include mainly working with sims and doing exercises on GTO trainer as well as discussing strats with private discord group and other chat groups. My main game is 100bb, but I've been working on other stack sizes too (started working with preflop guru for short stack HU and HUPLO). I'll aim to use to thread to keep track on my study as often as possible, and post HH whenever I find something interesting.

Other things I mainly do include uni, basketball and chess. I also started vlogging but video editing takes me a long time. I spend too much time wasting money and watching movies and tv shows so I'm aiming to cut down on those this year.

I take shots at live MTTs sometimes, so hopefully I bink something this year. It's the start of a new decade so GL to us all.

Last 20k hands on my current laptop:

So I managed to condense what I think modern 2020 HUNL strategy entails into a 50 something page document of research notes and sim results. This whole project has taken me almost a month of work. I also have thousands of sims now which I will continue to study to further perfect my strategy.

I have to say I'm quite happy with the fruit of my labours and hope that my research will guide me towards the path of HUNL perfection.

I will be refreshing and further honing some of my frequencies and strategies in various spots by practicing my strategy on GTO Trainer. Even thought some of simplications I use in spots are slightly different to the some of the exact mixing frequencies on the trainer, its will hopefully close enough for the EV to remain quite similar.

My plan will include a daily routine of grinding the trainer with reference to my research material and adjusting or fixing my deviations from equilibrium when its sensible to do so. I've put other poker projects on hold and will be quite focused in this.

I managed to get access to a few nice midstakes room that are hopefully not dream machine infested (fingers cross) and hopefully be able to get into some more juicy spots this year to make the grind a worthwhile one.

My quest for revival of this format as well as continue perseverance in the lonely grind of the HUNL streets continue. For those asking for the motivation of my pursuit in such a goal, I would reply that it is not of purely financial but also intellectual and to some degree one of self actualisation. I find beauty and purity in certain elements of HUNL strategy that never cease to amaze me day in and day out, whether I'm playing or studying the game.

The past few weeks were of self reflection. All sorts of crazy things are happening around the world this year in 2020. Many crazy things are also happened around my life and people I know. It's made me realise the things I want in my life and what I want to do in the short term and long term. I will strive to become the best version of myself and I hope everyone will strive to become better versions of themself too.

2020, a new decade, here we come!

Lets do big things and make greatness happen!

My plans with the Trainer:

1. Do a reasonable amount of hands on it per day, maybe around 100, since that doesn't take too long

2. Write down on errors I made, prioritising EV errors over mixing errors

3. Refresh my tendencies with my notes based on those error

4. Review with pio on specific spots

Some spots like monotone in both srp and 3bp can give me particular trouble, because since they can be quite complex. I also need to really focus on some river spots because I might miss some important things. My focus is to do a reasonable amount like 100 a day with focus until I get can reduce my EV mistakes before I start to play alot of hands faster or even start two tabling the trainer. I've made quite a few misclicks when not concentrating which is quite annoying. I think making vids on these complex spots on my vlog helps me learn and absorb the ideas better.

I've been doing less hands on the trainer daily, but with more focus on each hand and will be simming more spots that are interesting to me. Note taking has definitely helped with reducing EVbb loss overall, especially when a tendency is identified. It's also important to practice mixing correctly.

Will start posting some HH to get more traction on the thread as soon as I start putting in more volume in march. I'm playing day 1 of a 1.5k this saturday so that will be fun.

Played some live PLO, ran down a few stacks in spots like nut vs second nut coolers and wrongly timed bluffs. But overall a few of the decisions were avoidable and I def didn't play well. However, I feel refreshed and more focused now. I'm aiming to play around 7 hours of live poker a week, maybe 10 max. So in the future, I want to make the most of those spots and keep spews to a minimum.

I'm also watching my eating and spending habit and working on my exercise plan to build my body and strength. I'm feeling optimistic and ready to make big changes this year.

Busted the 1.5k main after a very swingy day. I typically run very bad in this event every year. Didn't have the best time but at least had alot of big swings. The field was pretty rec heavy and soft as it was a highly promoted event in the local region. Got into a few pretty absurd spots against pretty spastic profiles. The main hand that crippled my stack was a AK v AA hand on a K high board and after that it was pretty much over. At least I got it over with and can spend march doing more online poker.

Hi OP

Thanks for valuable HU journal in 2020!
What stakes/sites do you recommend for NLHE HU beginner?
Yeah tons of factors would affect the decision though...
No access to Party, but fine to others...

PokerStars Rake

If you can access stars play zoom on it, its the best to get volume. Otherwise, it depends on what site you have access to (which country are you in). Try to find asian app games if you can get into those, they are high rake but extremely soft.

Star City, I haven't been to crown in a while, planning to go back at some point (maybe during a series).

Gonna mostly play online for a while, might add sport betting to that... Not gonna play live for a while so it will free up some time for study + volume

Also been hitting up the 6 max lab and really enjoying the process, might cook up some unorthodox strats

Been running good last few sessions, also got to put in some HUPLO volume. Will look through the private group discord to study through some of the hand discussions and strats there. Theres alot of interesting stuff in there that I want to read up on the discord channels(gonna start looking through some of the discussions on the preflop channels, then the srp channel, then 3bp and 4bp channels before moving on to other channels that has discussion like exploitative plays, will also be studying some of the session vids uploaded there by some of the regs and following the blogs of some of the fellow HU grinders). Everything uploaded there might actually take a few weeks to go through. Also been grinding the 6 max lab for abit as well as seeing some new HUPLO resources being released on the GTO Trainer which will be great to look at (along with hands from the Galfond Challenge)...

Had a pretty stressful session, I think I def deviated from equilibrium strategies to do some pretty drastic exploit when villains are playing too far from equilibrium. Card distribution was also completely mad, seen some crazy sh*t. Might have felt my B and C game starting to creep up on me, especially when I'm playing the other game types, this is less of a thing with 100bb HUNL but some deep stack PLO def got in the mix and things took a turn for the worse. Prob need to think about stop loss for game types that aren't HUNL, but thought there was an insane dynamic with an narrow window that had to be taken advantage of.

Nice. Is it harder to pick up on tells of strength from a opponent? Since some opponents play like they are playing in NLH and don't realise they are behind but still looking at you like they want your chips in the middle.
