Some of you might know me. Most of you won't. Some people still say "hey didnt you have that PLO PG&C?" Yeah I ****ing did. And I sucked at PLO cash so I quit. Jesus I was down like 1.6k in 25plo. my lord that was a pill to swallow. Praise jesus I was backed for it. Anyways, My name's Patrick Tardif. My online alias is "Egption or "IrEgption" and I'd like to think I'm an above average poker player. I've been a recreational poker player since I was in grade 8 and took it seriously in October of 2013. I've dabbled in all forms of poker. PLO, SNGs, NLHE, MTTs, live poker, etc. I've tried it all. I never found "real" success however until my $50 deposit on March 12th, 2015.

I told myself "hey I'm going to run this $50 up," like every goofball whose ever deposited. I won my first $0.55 mtt for $78 and never looked back since. At my peak, I turned my $50 roll into $8k. I won a livament for 4700, chopped big 16.50 for 2200, $8.80 nlo8 omania for 1k, Final tabled the $27 SCOOP 8-game for 1k, and a bunch of other "meh" scores.

However, things changed in October of 2015. I made the decision to move to Korea. I graduated in June with an honors specialization in Accounting. However, I had no interest in entering the accounting field. I really didn't want to tie myself to a job that could possibly be for life. So I decided I was going to teach English in an Asian Country.

I eventually found a job ~4 months later after 3 months "applying", "I swear mom and dad I've been looking everywhere," and "ok now I'm seriously applying and looking everywhere." I had to obliterate my roll to fund the trip.

After a lot of life expenses and the occasional degenerate $500 HU hyper, the roll sits around 3.7-4k. Here's My current scenario:

- I've got plenty of live casinos to play at. Korea has some great options. Since Koreans aren't allowed to Gambol (Illegal) there aren't very many regs. I'll be dabbling in live poker on weekends. Traveling is super inexpensive.
- I'm currently on a stake for Spin&Go's. So far it has gone horrible. I haven't been able to grind MTTs due to work and the inability to dedicate 6-8 hours a day. I'm trying to figure out if cash or spins is my avenue to go with tournaments.
- There is an APT in Daegu in March and a APPT in Seoul in April. I plan on playing the main in both (1k/3k).

What to expect from my thread:

- Hand histories for the obligatory poker requirements
- Life updates. Did I meet a cute Korean girl? Did something awkward happen? Did I pick a GTO taxi cab driver?
- **** my students say in their diaries or in class.
- Results online and live.

Some receipts of my grind:

Pretty sure this giraffe is March 2015 to November 13th. It's still relevant today. Any mtt post this time period is me degen punting a 109 or 215.

Missing in this is my 888 giraffe. up like 2-3k? i dunno i punted a little recently doing degen ****. you know how it goes.

Well My intro I guess is gonna be short and sweet. Below will be my twitter and twitch. I used to stream a lot. Maybe I'll stream again someday.

Small update.

So on my spin stake, I've ran a little -EV over a small sample. been trying to play 100 a day this week.

80+ cEV seems dec for 3s. I was sucking before, made a slight adjustment, and now I'm not sucking. Maybe one day I'll win those 65/35's lol. Oh well.

Life note: My students drew some pictures of me. I lol'd at them. Here are the receipts.

Finished my stake for 1k games. Gonna resign for another 1k obv due to makeup plus I think I'm improving. Ran pretty meh but I'm due for a 10kx soon amirite.

Anyhoo here's the specs of how it went:

So my cEV graph took off around 500-600 games. I took a big break and I made some fairly major adjustments. It had a super strong impact on my game. The last 100 I played were a brick wall. consistent poopy spots. Anyways, looking forward to the next 1k. maybe I can wonnered some $.

On a live note, I'm heading to Daegu to play 1/2 and some $50 super soft hyper turbo mtt's. I'm currently 100% win rate in them, as I won it on sunday for 600.

Welp cash today was meh. blasted off 200 the 1st pot I got involved in, then sort of lingered around the +100 to -100 range after some rebuys. I ended down ~165. the $50 hyper was a punt too. I won a flip early, then punted off majority of my stack on a hero call gone wrong. out shortstacked asians for a bit then fail trapped aces minraising 7bb on the button vs a fun player in bb. he calls, flops 2pair, and gg me.

Gonna focus on online for the next week or so. Might skip live poker this weekend and just head to Seoul the following weekend. I've heard a lot from the locals about Walkerhill. It's where the APPT will be.

Bonus story:

So one of the regs is in the US Army. He tells the table he can't drink because of the NK nuke stuff. 2 foreigners proceed to tell him how "oh they dont have nukes it's a bluff" and "It hasn't been proven that the nuke was real." The Army guy was just baffled. He essentially confirmed the nuke test was real and said, "if you only knew what I knew."

was an 8/10 conversation. Jesus the people arguing vs him were pretty clueless on this topic.

>always neen a dream

Even tho It's a typo, I just imagine a french canadian accent. It sort of depends on how strong your English is. All you really need is a university degree and the willingness to move to the other side of the country. Also the leap of faith required in signing with a private school. I got lucky, 1st try I found a awesome friggin school. Some aren't so.

If you really are curious, PM me and I can tell you more over skype.

Nah, I'm on the opposite side of the country near Busan. It's only a 4 hour bus to Seoul tho. So the occasional trip is ok.

I mean I'm a pretty big square, so I'm not the best to ask. In general you'll find there are tons of attractive girls out here. prostitution is super rampant, so there's plenty of options. Plus they party super hard. Clubs are pretty wild.

As for compared to other countries, I got no input. only been to Korea.

for me, virtually nothing. My job pays for rent. I don't know how much it is a month, but I'd imagine like 200ish? my utilities is like 15 bucks a month, my phone is 40. That's all my big boy bills. Rest depends on how much you wanna eat/drink. You can easily live off 100-200 on food a month. Most things are pretty inexpensive. Traveling is super inexpensive too.

My Sunday update:

Played 200 spins. Produced my first win sesh on the stake that wasn't like 1-2 bi's. My cEV was hovering around 80-90 the entire sesh until the last 20-30 games. got quite a few poopy spots.

72.11 cEV seems good. But I know I'm better. Nice to see a result for once. Prob play 100 tomorrow. I expect to move up to 7s shortly. I didn't really expect to stay at 3s for long. I thought it'd be a quick move up but I clearly wasn't as good as what I thought when I started. The adjustments have clearly been for the better. As the sample grows my cEV remains constantly high.

Might play live in Daegu again this weekend. Aiming for a trip to Seoul beginning of Feb.

I guess. I mean my apartment is tiny AF. You wont get the luxury **** you'd get in Thailand or something. Everything just seems reasonable. It's not like back home where vital resources try to price gouge you. In general everything is relatively cheaper. I think minimum wage here is $5 usd equivalent?

Absolutely grunching and I'm sorry.

It is not possible to survive monthly in Korea on a $500/month budget. I wouldn't try to do it for under $2k. Also, Korean rent can be a bit of a problem considering they tend to post rather large deposits knows as key money. Those can be waived, but that's the system. My rent/utilities for a 3 b/r in Seoul runs about $3500 a month alone. For a decent studio in the city you're looking at at least 500 bucks and more likely 700. I can't imagine Busan being all that much lower.

Food is another consideration. Meat is anywhere from two to eight times more expensive than the states depending on what you're eating. Beef is on the more expensive side. Chicken and pork on the less expensive side.

Also, OP, Walkerhill's poker room has been in a state of flux since the last APPT and is under construction and new management. There are only a few games in the city above board to include Walkerhill, COEX, 7Luck and they aren't really good games at the moment. But that's very tourist dependent. Oh, and the APPT Seoul has moved. It's in the fall now. Not April.

Korea is not like SE Asia. People don't idolize foreigners. They don't want a green card. And more often than not they're not particularly interested in speaking English. That said, I ****ing love it, have spent almost five years in Seoul, married a Korean woman, and wouldn't leave if I didn't have to.

If, like the OP or me, you are here for sponsored employment you can most certainly live a fairly spartan existence on $500 beyond that employment provided housing. That's assuming a mostly veggie diet. Kimbap. Drinking alcohol consisting of only soju from convenience stores and not partying much. Beyond that things tend to add up quickly.

Any other questions you have about Korea come talk to us in the travel thread. A few of us have been in and out for like 7 years answering questions. Cheers. http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/92...0/index30.html

Best of luck on your goals, OP.

Yeah I'm honestly clueless on the rent department. I dunno where I got my $200 estimate lol. I'm in Masan/Changwon, so I'm about a 40 minute bus from Busan. I can only imagine Seoul/Busan are extremely expensive, especially Gangnam/Haeundae areas.

I'm hardly grocery shopping since I'm lazy, but I tend to avoid things I have to cook. Thatll have to change eventually, but I'm satisfied atm.

Yeah Korean people are a little more xenophobic than most other asian countries. I've heard people give me the example that in China, a foreigner is a step up and in Korea a foreigner is a step down in terms of status/dating. Koreans are super prideful about their country.

Appreciate the post. I'm fairly clueless in a lot of aspects.
