foopah's journey to d7sarmy
Hey guys,
my name is Joris, I'm 33 years old and am from Belgium. I played poker in college (2002-2007), read the Harrington books at the time but didn't really study the game and just clicked away in S&G's.
I'm still working in the same company where I started 10 years ago and my carreer is going very well there. I'm playing poker again since about 3 years, with some more studying but still at the micros and still breakeven. I had a coach about a year ago (for about 15 sessions), but never made real progress there. I found the d7sarmy CFP program via this forum and coincidentally one of the players in my former coaching group also worked with them. I've been in contact with those guys and they require students to be beating 25NL at least to be allowed into their CFP program.
So for now, that's my goal. I really want to be in a serious coaching program and that means at this moment beating 25NL.
Will post here regularly to keep myself motivated and to force myself to dedicate time to studying, reviewing and posting instead of just playing.
I'm not sure how ambitious it is to set a target of 31.06.2018 for reaching my goal, but let's put that one up there for now !
Any advice is appreciated !
Oh yeah, I'm playing NL5 zoom on Stars.

Re: foopah's journey to d7sarmy
I can do 6am to 7.30am before going to work, and then probably 6.30pm to 8pm in the evening. On weekends it depends, but definitely 9.30am to 11.30am.
Playing 2tables of zoom is about 500 hands per hour. I think 30k hands per month is realistic. Sometimes it will be more when I can play some full saturdays or sundays.
From about april to october I have another time-consuming hobby, so then I can't play a single hand in the weekends. Hence the current target of 31.06.2018 to have somewhat of a basic skill level.

Re: foopah's journey to d7sarmy
Yesterday went well, felt like I was thinking more/better about ranges and pushing people off weak hands on good boards.
PokerStars Zoom No-Limit Hold'em, $0.05 BB (6 handed) - Converted at http://handhistoryconverter.com/

Preflop: Hero is SB with Q , A
1 fold, MP raises to $0.10, 1 fold, Button calls $0.10, Hero raises to $0.45, BB calls $0.40, 1 fold, Button calls $0.35
Flop: ($1.45) 10 , 4 , Q (3 players)
Hero bets $0.70, 1 fold, Button calls $0.70
Turn: ($2.85) 7 (2 players)
Hero bets $1.91, Button raises to $3.85 (All-In), Hero calls $1.94
River: ($10.55) 9 (2 players, 1 all-in)
Total pot: $10.55 | Rake: $0.44
I should be ahead on the flop most of the time. Turn doesn't really change anything, if he shoves here with TT, 77, QT, KJ and J9 then I have 40% equity and I need about 20% to make the call. Thoughts ?

Re: foopah's journey to d7sarmy
Good session today.
Trying to work on spots to check-raise the flop when the board is good for our range.
okerStars Zoom No-Limit Hold'em, $0.05 BB (6 handed) - Converted at http://handhistoryconverter.com/
Button ($7.18)
SB ($5.22)
Hero (BB) ($8.63)
UTG ($5.12)
MP ($7.92)
CO ($9.97)
Preflop: Hero is BB with K , 8
3 folds, Button raises to $0.10, 1 fold, Hero calls $0.05
Flop: ($0.22) 5 , 7 , 8 (2 players)
Hero checks, Button bets $0.12, Hero raises to $0.50, Button calls $0.38
Turn: ($1.22) J (2 players)
Hero bets $0.85, Button calls $0.85
River: ($2.92) 6 (2 players)
Hero checks, Button checks
Total pot: $2.92 | Rake: $0.12
Our range should be more pocketpair heavy I think, so OK spot to checkraise as bluff. When he calls I'm not really sure what range he has, set is possible also 1pair+draw. J is not a good card, 9T gets there or he can improve to a flush draw. I bet again, he calls. Don't think there's any fold equity on the river.

K8 hand i would just xc xc xf. you have better draws that can xr especially those with bdfd IMO
AQ hand i would bet smaller on flop like 1/3 then 50-60% ish on turn jam river. When we get raised ott we hate life, he could turn some dd combos into a bluff howeever at these stakes a rai generally means nuts
QQ hand vs 2 fish yeah sizing up is ok i guess. it it were 2 normal players im not sure what size i would use because regs wouldnt really flat sb here so you would just be HU with BB then i would use a larger size then hate life if i was xr. AP i would easy fold river.

- Open and flop check/call is OK. He seemed weak on the turn with the small bet, so I wanted to raise for value, and charg a flush draw. Bit in the dark on the rvr, the flush and straight missed, V can have a weaker ace. I also didn't feel comfortable check/calling this rvr.

Thanks for the support ! I know it's a (very) long road for me, but I don't think it's completely unrealistic. Biggest challenge for me is to keep studying and not use all the available time for playing, even when it's going well.

Button ($11.91)
SB ($2.52)
BB ($5)
UTG ($3.60)
Hero (MP) ($13.74)

Preflop: Hero is MP with A , K
UTG raises to $0.17, Hero raises to $0.51, 4 folds, UTG calls $0.34
Flop: ($1.09) 4 , 6 , 5 (2 players)
UTG checks, Hero checks

River: ($1.89) 9 (2 players)
UTG bets $0.91, Hero folds
Total pot: $1.89 | Rake: $0.08
FLOP: think V has a lot of pp's that don't fold this flop, so a check.
TURN: still have some equity against pp's and V can be stabbing w AK, AQ, AJ, KQ etc.
RVR: don't think V is bluffing here a lot, so a fold.

PRE: probably a 3bet vs a fish.
FLOP: want to let him bet, so a X.
TURN: want to get some value from draws or weaker pairs/Ax. V raises which can be a lot really, flush draws, straight draws, 2P etc.
RVR: even though the betsize is small, think this should be a fold.

Re: foopah's journey to d7sarmy
Got my act together today:

Button ($2.89)
SB ($5.34)
Hero (BB) ($5.42)

CO ($11.74)
Preflop: Hero is BB with J , 9
2 folds, CO raises to $0.14, 1 fold, SB calls $0.12, Hero calls $0.09
Flop: ($0.42) 6 , 8 , 10 (3 players)

SB checks, Hero bets $0.27, 1 fold, SB calls $0.27
River: ($0.96) 7 (2 players)

I never have the gutts to raise this river as it feels like I'm seeing a better flush so much. Please talk me out of this.
