Switched and played some 4-card on Ignition. Games were good and I got lucky one hand where I 4-bet a tilting maniac and a reg that was trying to isolate with QJJTds at PLO500. Games were okay on Global. A reg was gunning for me and we flipped for stacks and I lost. Down 2 buyins on the American sites at PLO200, and breakeven on Pppoker. Such is life.

I usually listen to hip hop and electronic with some indie mixed in, but after awhile I need a break from all of it. I switched to some classical and it was quite soothing. I can listen to classical all day in the background, while more popular music becomes too much if I listen for too long.

I am sensing impending poker burnout. Have been going pretty hard with consistent 8-10 hour days. Yesterday just felt a little off.

I know this because:

A) I start to care less about hands
B) I start trying to generate action (3betting more, opening a wider range pre) instead of waiting for good spots and being patient

Also, I want this guy's job:

I've experienced burn out a few months back from playing long sessions. Like yourself, I had to take some days off to mentally recover. Have you considered scaling back hours slightly for a bit? You might be able to get the same hours in monthly since you're not needing the extra days of recovery. It's just something I've been personally experimenting with over the last 3 months.

Hi potluckneeded,

Scaling back hours is something I have always thought of, but never executed thoroughly. I've compromised and started to play shorter sessions, but I still keep the total # of hours high. So instead of a straight 10 hour session, I've broken it down into 3 sessions of about 3 hours each with breaks in between.

I still go for the marathon sessions every once in awhile if the games are super good (10, 12 even 16 hours).

The problem with this strategy is that it is necessary for me to take multiple days off for recovery (just like you said). A big tradeoff.

Thanks for following. Hopefully we can learn from one another and improve.

Meal prep Monday. Healthy and tasty.

(Salad with spring greens, mini sweet peppers, mushrooms, tomatoes, cucumbers, sunflower seeds, a wedge of some soft cheese, and teriyaki chicken as the main. Also pictured is some Indian pastry.)

Good long session with a break in the middle. 5 hours + 5 hours.

Here was a beat that almost put me on tilt:

I would say I was able to sustain my B+ game today, which is profitable against this lineup, but not completely satisfying.

I had a vivid dream last night.

We were playing live PLO and I had A345rb and opened UTG and a reg from my online 6-max game 3bet me from the big blind. I've never met this person before, but in my dream she was a female. Brunette. Anyways, the flop comes T25, she checks, and I snap pot it. She snaps check raises me all in and I call. I find out she has TT22 and I wake up feeling upset that she 3bet my UTG raise with that hand from the blinds.

Maybe a sign one is playing too much online poker.

Here's a weird dream .gif

Played this hand pretty well while other hands in the session not so well. I open Q896ds UTG and MP flats with QQT3hh. Flop comes 366hh and I cbet half pot. Turn brings my backdoor diamonds, 3664 and I 3/4 pot it. Villain calls. River is 9h completing the front door flush and I am thinking of a bet size, but this time I check. Villain half pots river and I c/r all in and he calls. I guess everyone is a genius when they have the nuts.

I don't know why 1 outers bother me so much, but they do.

I need to just focus on the play themselves and look at it objectively instead of being emotionally attached to the outcome. Although I do find myself celebrating when I win a nice pot. Maybe there is no way to separate the attachment to the outcome: if you enjoy winning pots then you will feel bad when you lose them. The only way to avoid this is to become an emotionless robot. The dream.

Done. No more poker tonight. Overall the sessions were good. Made a few mistakes that I will keep in mind for the next time. Definitely feel like I am improving but I have such a long way to go and so much to learn. We'll save it for next time.

Looks like Antonio Esfandiari beat Kevin Hart in a boxing match. My money would have been on Kevin, but it looks like a reach advantage overcomes a lot.

Cheering you on! I know what you mean about marathon hours. For example, since I'm driving a few hours this weekend to the casino, I need to make the most of the trip and will most likely put in 12+ hour sessions. I'll take breaks in-between, but it's certainly not my default. I hope we can learn from one another as well... I'm a student of the game, I know enough to know I don't know nearly as much as I thought a few years ago!

I'm far from perfect, however, I just don't care enough to care what's said at the table. I'm a winning player, I put in the hours every week, the math says variance will slap me around at times. I just can't concern myself with the verbal actions of others unless I'm using it later on to get out of line with them in a hand.

I might not be the strongest technical player at my limits, but this is something I seem to have an advantage. I do tilt, but I work really hard of blowing it off.. it's one long day. The Mental Game of Poker put me on a really healthy path.

That's good to hear. Tilt is the enemy of all poker players.

Yesterday, down 10 buyins. Sad times. A lot of spots where I got aces all in pre multiway and lost when I was incredibly deep (300bb+) at 5 card. My hot and cold equity was pretty much breakeven so I have to study those more often. Will try again later today after lunch.

Was feeling a bit down after yesterday's session. I felt uncertain about my plays. And then the great fear came. Am I good enough to be playing? And then I remembered something someone once said. He said:

Quote:
“I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”

Grabbed some Vietnamese food: Vermicelli with Beef & Eggroll (fish sauce of course). Nice thing about California is that there are tons of good asian options around.

It's 3:30am right now and I am awake as hell.

So it was a kind of a slow bleed at Pppoker and the 5 card grind, and some success afterwards when I switched to 4-card on Global. I would say I played an average game, not very good and not bad. The rake is killer at headsup and I don't think I am good enough to overcome it against most players, but I play anyway because I enjoy the game and am still profitable if I game select.

A nice pot at 3/6.

Blocker play on Pppoker 5-card.
