Background: My name is Charlie. From a non-poker perspective, a little background about me...

I am 35 year old Marine of 15 years currently in college as a MECEPer. (Marine Enlisted College Education Program) In English, I am a Gunnery Sergeant going to school full time as my job. When I finish spring of next year I will commission and be a 2nd Lt in the Marine Corps and owe them 10 more years of my life.

I am a husband and dad to a 10-month-old (Ellie), enjoy running, trading options in the stock market and being a dad.

From a poker perspective (being hard but truthful with myself) I am a total fish online when it counts. I have played poker since 2005 live and online on and off over the years.

For Live games I used to frequency Mission Casino in Oceanside CA and Maryland Live in Maryland. Live play, being completely honest I am a winning player at 1 /2 and 2/5. Likely because I am playing 1 table and have always been limited by time and life but have kept a ledger since I started playing more regularly in 2009.

Online, I would like to say that I am at least recreational, but any long stretch wins I have are shadowed by playing too long and eventually making a bad decision that leads to getting stacked and tilted. I have stents of break even play where I feel as though I make pretty decent decisions and reads. I have played from 2nl to 300nl and been a losing player up and down. I understand how to play the nuts and sometimes value bet great hands I know are winning, but not how to let marginal ones go. My overall my graph says ‘ick.

Everything I have pre-2021

Graphs from two different aliasÂ’ this year but pretty much the last 25k Hands at mixed games. 2nl, 5nl, 25nl,100nl

So why am I doing thisÂ…
I am starting a new blog for the purposes of accountability and to gain insight from my plays both good, AND bad. One of my goals is discipline. Discipline to play, win, and leave. Discipline to fold and wait for better spots. I am sure some of my hands will be cringe worthy, but hopefully, as we go, the cringe will lessen.
Moneys: I am honestly amazingly comfortable from stock trading and my military paycheck. Because I enjoy playing I would say my 5nl bankroll is pretty limitless but want to win consistently before playing higher and losing more for no reason.

I am a losing player, but I also win enough to over the course of my online presence have only lost $3000 over the hand history I have of approx. 100k hands, but only have graphed about 75k. I am estimated my pre-Holdem manager play. Really it would just show more loss...

I will build my bankroll and stay at 5nl till I reach $500. I am currently at $100 on my poker account. And if I have made it to $500 playing at 2/5 I am pretty confident I have begun by that point to win in a somewhat consistent fashion.

Training and Blogging: I will be using the time I used to just jump back into games in order to study hands from the previous or same dayÂ’s session. I have also signed up at (APT) )Advanced Poker Training and am attempting to keep myself to a stricter range.

Day 1 2/24/21

I will not disappoint you with bad play from the start. I can see that I will need to modify my calling rules/ranges. If you check out and comment on any hand, please elaborate on what I should have done Hand14...

Could I be any worse? Player is 18/13 off 47 hands. This should have been a give me range of AA,KK,QQ, AK, KQs. AQ is the only hand in that range that misses right? 99 also gets there, but likely doesn’t barrel the river as he did here.

He is always C-betting here right? But my two options are 1. flat or 2. chk-raise.
Here, if I flat I know nothing and would be having to chk/call which could get trickier with more streets.
If he shoves here on my chk/raise, I think I can still fold, because most of the 4b shoves here are QQ, 99, KQ, J10s. At the time, his 3b % was still small (He later was very aggressive which would have changed my decision here)

My one question here is, is my chk/raise to large? I pretty much think I priced myself in to call his shove right?

Hand 14 : I did so well today till I didn’t….

Is this an easy fold? My range is pretty face up here. He knows my 3Bet range here is AA, KK, AK, AQ,1010 +. Obviously set over set is rare and most of the time and im getting it in as well with any set on a dry board his open shove on the flop though. But for retro, the dude was pretty maniac and was shoving hand after hands later every hand PF with garbage and I just caught the wrong time.(23s, xx, K8, xx, AJ,xx, ) I just couldn’t catch him.
But for this board, spade draws, JQ are also shoving. When it comes to stack management though, is this just a spot we don’t take? Top pair and getting it in? As I type this I realize I broke my own rule, the bet was just perfect though.

End of Session Summary: -
Number of hands: 478
Number of Tables: 2
Profit/Loss: -$234 -9.8 bb/100

I made a few terrible calls in the beginning for too much of % my stack which I am sure has been a huge factor in my win rates on good days. Im giving up too much on flops I don’t nail only for my big wins to get dwindled. Anyway that got me down to -1 Buy in but I started to gradually climb back in and I believe made some good folds. But then I came to my one and only large pot of the night.
Hand 14 with the AK v 1010. The hind site, in most situations without information, I’m guessing that’s a fold to an over shove OTF? Sad day, that this was my one large pot of the session.
