supsupsup
Not too much to comment on for the past week. Happy with my performance on all fronts and feel I'm a better person than I was a week ago today. There was a really big ice storm here (for some reason weather still sucks mid April) so I was stranded @ my place for the weekend. Had a few friends visit over the weekend but personally felt it wasnt safe to drive anywhere and all my plans were recreationally based so canceled em. Funny how much you appreciate your freedom when you're strapped down for only 48 hours.
Health: Received a few compliments throughout the week saying I slimmed down a lot which is nice/motivating to hear. Body composition has definitely changed a lot in regards to putting on muscle and losing fat which makes a big difference. Thursday was the first day I cheated on the diet (outside of the determined cheat day) and I made this one count haha. Oh well guess it's natural to **** up once in a while. Overall, got a bunch of good food out of the way on that day and my cheat day haha...shouldn't be much temptation til next Saturday
Wealth: Pokers going really well and I've made a spreadsheet that tracks all my cash flow which I've found has been very motivating in regards to tracking financials/watching . This is quite simple to do and would actually highly recommend it. Only takes a few minutes just list in one column all of your assets and then make it "auto total" that column. beside it make a column with all of your debts and also sum it up. It's really useful to know your cash flow or if you are leaking money anywhere (and track people who owe you $/you owe etc)
Some Random Stuff:
Let's talk a bit of strat? Don't really like talking much strategy but to the loyal readers I don't mind giving a little bit back. This won't be anything ground breaking but understanding this can prob help a few guys quite a bit. Let's talk about opening ranges:
Why are opening ranges important? Well, long story short this is where our strategy tree begins, and where our opponents breakdown of our range begins. Entering the pot with favourable dynamics is imo the most crucial aspect of poker and is often overlooked. If you do not do this you will struggle relentlessly and get exploited all over the map.
I remember back in ~2013 I thought winning in poker was all about running people over and being relentless. Naturally, that's sort of how a normal person would see it. I had opened QTo UTG off of a 30bb stack and ended up getting stacked on a Q9336r board by KQ. My friend told me "it's very hard to show a profit when you enter from EP with such a weak hand that has very bad reverse implied odds vs. villain ranges". Did I listen? Nope. I continued to think I could be some lag-tard and my results continued to be poor.
It took me a very long time to realize that poker is all about entering the pot with favourable dynamics and understanding how my opponent views my range vs. what my actual range is vs. how I can exploit that relationship. Very easy in theory: enter the pot with a range and pre flop strategy that is very tough to exploit (unless we are exploiting). I won't get into post-flop but here's a few tricks I've used to improve my pre-flop game:
1) Work to understand different pre flop ranges @ different stack sizes and when to deviate from them. What does our 15, 20, 30, 40, 50, 100 bb stack opening ranges look like from each position? Why do they look this way?
2) When do we deviate from the GTO opening ranges? Here's a few examples: what are the stack sizes after us? Can they 3b/f? Can they flat? What are the villain tendencies? Will they flat in position a lot? Are they tight? Skill level/tendencies of the BB/BTN? If the BTN is a loose passive fish maybe opening A6o from the CO off 30bb stack isn't very wise. Does our hand contain good blockers when opening off shorter stacks? Any reason people will respond differently to our opens? It's so important to consider this stuff.
3) After we have a thorough grasp on opening ranges we can begin to understand our response to when other players open. I'll leave that one up to you
I know this is just a small piece but if you really want to improve your game I would suggest really nailing pre flop play. In smaller tournaments even if your post flop game is mediocre you can print money by having solid pre flop fundamentals and understanding pre flop exploits.
Anyways, hope that helps someone, but not too much
