OK, time for some homework given to me by coach...
When i have some question about hand/do a mistake, i can end up w homework like...:
BB: $50.50
Hero (BTN/SB): $49.50
Pre Flop: ($0.75) Hero is BTN/SB with K
A
Hero raises to $1.50,
BB raises to $5,
Hero raises to $13, BB calls $8
Flop: ($26.00) 4
Q
T
(2 players)
BB bets $37.50 all in, Hero ?
...and then he goes and tell me: "Explain to me what to do and why, like I was a 4 years old baby!" :f_confused:
So here it is, you baby!
OK, so let's do some basic stuff and break down what to do here, using some basic math and different ranges.
First of all we need to figure out what % of equity do we need against opponents range:
Math goes smth like this:
when he shoves, we have to call 36.50$ (what we have behind) into pot of 26+36.50 = 62.50$. So 62.50/36.50 = 1.71. To get % you divide 100/(1.71+1) = 37.
Meaning we need 37% equity against opponents range.
( In game i use approximations knowing that for pot size bets you need 33%, half pot size bets you need 25%, for ¾ size bets you need 30% and for double psb you need 40%.)
Now we have to figure out what can opponent donk shove in this situation:
Let's take unknown opponent, assuming he 3bets round 20%, who can 3b let's say 2 examples:
Value range opponent:
Polarized range opponent:
(This are all estimation and ofc differ from each opponents…)
When we 4b our hand, we have to discard some hands from their range. So they may continue with smth like this:
Value range opponent: (here is reasonable to think that he continues with all his range. I assumed most would rather shove TT-QQ, AK).
Polarized range opponent:
Now, let's see how's our hand doing against possible shoves:
Value range opponent:
Against his whole range we have:
Now, most opponents won't shove nuts into aggressor so let's take them out and also some non diamond suited hands:
As soon as we start taking out some value hands from his range our equity ofc increases in other words, if you think opponents can shove some draws here, then this is a must call.
Polarized range opponent:
Against his whole range we have:
Here, I'll assume opponent shoves all flush draws, pocket pairs as semi bluff and value hands:
And as soon as he starts taking out value hands, our equity gets better:
But how do we know all that ingame you ask?
Well, you take your outs against range, so if he can shove draws then beside us being ahead, we have 10 outs (3 aces, 3 kings and 4 jacks as outs) to improve even if we are behind, giving us ~40% equity.
Fast math: 10 outs * 4 (as we see two cards to come) = 40%
Hero calls $36.50 all in
Turn: ($99.00) T
(2 players - 2 are all in)
River: ($99.00) 7
(2 players - 2 are all in)
