Entry exam - White Christmas? Entry exam - White Christmas?

10-01-2018 , 05:05 PM
Dear ya'll,

Disclosure: I'm not accustomed to 2+2.
I wanna start this thread to document my attempt at poker.
This can be a success w/o me making it in poker. This little Christmas project of mine can be a valuable experience IF taking seriously. It can teach about poker but also in life since poker is a craft with brutal indifference at its core. Mimicking how life can be (described) sometimes. But ultimately is always. (Perception & reality angles). Dealing with this is the necessary condition for a winning player. Oh wow so chilly, this cold heart. As you may have noticed I like pondering stuff, making stories I can relate to which make me feel something. Discovering pearls of (perceived) insight is something that makes me happy.

K, mate but what is this challenge? You can talk in some future posts a bit more bout yourself solidifying your resolve with a timely conjured story how it all makes sense for you to woo this cruel mistress that is poker.

Entry exam: This challenge is to see if poker is something for me (alot of factors make up this equation, more on that later. It is important to make this analysis so we can evaluate).

Christmas challenge:
Stab at volume: 12h min during weekends (friday incl), 3h min during weekdays.
This is a stab. To be revaluated after let's say 2 weeks. Notice this may differ in actual hands. I will start w/2 tabling zoom cash.
Stab at studying:
° Formalizing current thought process: Almost done, have some concepts I currently use that I want made orderly (this exercise has shown how chaotic things have been by now). Though I think this has fed my intuition/creativity because not yet pushed into a box by adhering to a rigid framework.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Daily:
° Every day think of 2 of the most typical spots I encounter and checking pokersnowie's preflop advisor (stay critical!).
° Or every day check a free video of e.g. ThePokerBank w/Splitsuit going over typical spots. Play vid; check spot yourself + articulate your thought process; resume vid; listen to their thought process; compare; evaluate; adjust (write down in "Principles and concepts" doc containing takeaways)
In depth (2h min during weekends):
° (Think in) Ranges!: Probably gonna check out Splitsuits poker workbook for hand reading.
° (Feel for) Poker math!: Practice calculations: Pot odds, combo's, EV, ...
° Go through The Grinder's Manual
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
° Starting br: 100$
° Starting stake: 5nlz
° HH review: Go over big lost pots + unsure spots
° Goal: Discover estimate of winrate (White Christmas?)
° Conclusion: Do I give poker a real shot? (Entry exam passed?) + Hindsight account.

Reminder: Next post ideas:
? Motivations for pursuing poker (the whole personal (what I wanna do) vs community (bringing fulfilment) values)

Might have forgotten some pieces in this first post but one of my goals is having a good nights rest and I heard my q
