Here’s my old blog.

http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/17...64/?highlight=

Cliffs:

• Rec, OMC (60), PStars.
• Want to win (otherwise, what’s the point?).
• Five years bumming around online, not trying very hard – mostly STT/MTT
• Started studying cash properly 2016.

Goal

Be confident that I can beat 50nl (in EV terms) 6 max reg speed by April 2017. Or go busto trying.

What else?

I don’t like Zoom, but if you see any 5nlz hands it will be because I use it as a training/study platform. I’ll explain how, if I post any training hands.

Why would you want to read this…hopefully it will be fun. Unlike my last blog there will be more hands and less strat.

It will be almost all exploitive (but trust me, I get that GTO stuff), so there will be plenty of spew to take a pot at.

I’m all about low volume, so you won’t see any graphs…But I’ll post my bankroll for tracking.

All aboard the banterbus.

Notes to Self:

Proviso

Spoiler:
When I say “proper reg”, I mean a GTO boss with a light/polar 3 betting range. I do not mean 8 table nits, lagtards, and definitely not any fish. I play unbalanced (some might say unhinged) against all the latter.

Playing 3bets pots post flop OOP against proper regs is as much fun as ****ing a plastic hedgehog.

Ergo

Preflop

[x] Make your calling component very small.
[x] Mainly defend by 4bet with your values and your best bluffers (based on blockers).
[x] Don’t over defend – find the fold btn.

Post flop

[x] Attack (mostly by x/r flop) with OVP, and better, and medium draws. [very strong draws will likely have pots odds to call one street - or written another way, realise your equity street by street when you have the odds/outs to do so].
[x] Don’t float underpairs…it’s a station spew fest – find the fold btn.

You can use all the Flopzilla you want, calling 3 barrels with bluff catchers versus proper regs is dropping your kecks, bending over and yelling “take me now”. Proper regs just don’t barrel off with overs with anything like the frequency we need to make calling down with our underpairs (or worse) profitable.

ergo, what does this mean for floating and not making ourselves (too) exploitable?

[x] OOP overfold to regs opening big from EP
[x] OOP play very small pots, with very good pot odds.
[x] OOP post flop DON’T OVER VALUE IMPLIED ODDS – THESE GUYS DON’T PAY OUT.
[x] And for the same reason be prepared to SP all the way if you flop gin. Also cos your OOP raises will be sooooo unbalanced.
[x] If you find you are playing propers regs OOP at high frequency – give yourself a **** ing slap.
[x] Balance (protect) your checking and calling ranges OOP & IP.
[x] Be unbalanced in your defence IP/OOP (overfold OOP, underfold IP).

BTW

Spoiler:
If reg has datamined me AND is using positional stats AND is capable of extrapolating my stats depending on the villain type I am facing, then **** me, gg wp, happy to give him my monies.

Capped ranges are HUUUUGE!

Be the guy who:

[x] Does not cap his range (often).
[x] Knows insta fist pump when villain caps his range.
[x] Know the right thing to do when villain caps his range.
[x] Know that playing a proper reg OOP when your range is capped and his range is not deserves a punch in the face and kick in the nuts.

Written this because I need to plug leaks pronto...will post any hand that I spots that infringes the above, for suitable punishment.

Not sure why you checked the river in that AQ vs AK hand. You arent really repping anything other than some super strong AJ+, and would any of those hands check back a blank like that on the river? Personally I would cbet flop with that backdoor flush draw but then check turn unimproved and just give up. If you are in fact going to bet the turn with air then you have to bet the river since villain is supposed to have a pair here and we cant win.

Keep in mind this does not mean to bluff every river when we know we're beat. I see some people use that classic line "i had to bluff, only way I could win" when it was obvious their opponent was never folding. Dont just bluff because it's the only way to win, bluff when you have no showdown value but look like you do. You 3bet preflop and bet all 3 streets on a dry board and you look like you want to get called, this is a convincing story.

So, post the annual bloatfest, to get back inta it, I’ll need a wee 5nlz warm up sesh.

Here’s how I use 5nlz for training. It’s kinda like pro sports teams use practice squads – good enough to give you a game, but not costing too much moniez.
There’s plenty of joe average regs at 5nlz.

Primarily I’m using 5nlz to talk though my reading perception, so that to that end, I’m often wanting to see what villain has.

Accordingly, I’ll adjust my play on the river to maximise my chance of seeing villain’s cards, not to maximise EV.

However, to make sure I’m not cheating myself, I’ll say the proper EV play out loud first.

For example, let’s say I have TP, oop, on a semi-dry runout, and put villain mostly on underpairs and missed draws.

Out loud I’m gonna say…

“I’d b/f this for value from his underpairs”

But in training mode, I’d often x/c it to guarantee showdown to confirm/deny my read.

Get the drift.

PS Doesn't always happen that way...game flow innit.

Put him on AA/KK as soon as he tank calls my donk, in training mode should be just calling turn, but nae worries. Not sure if I donk this spot for real...kinda interesting.

Butchered a couple of hands in my last session – realised I had done it and realised why and how.

This post is the therapy.

Back story 1

Inspired by a post on a dudes PGC made by a successful online grinder, I have been working on my mental game recently, specifically working my way through The Mental Game of Poker 2 (Jared Tendler). It’s good sheet, man.

Back story 2

I set myself up to fail from the get go. I was playing at home (not my normal place of poker) because I am looking after her indoors, who has womanflu. As a result I was on my F game thoughout the session.

There is a dangerous coolerish element to both hands. Dangerous because they are not coolers, but in F game mental mode, it is all too easy to write them off as such (all in QQ preflop and stack off TP in a 3bet pot, don’t sound too calamitous) but that cooler thinking is just denial and adds yet another fail into the mix – the failure to learn.

FWIW (it’s so outcome orientated) I calculate the cooler element of these hands to be valued at 60-70bb depending on line.

Hand 1 versus reg

hero fails;

Did not apply some decently converged stats. Specifically villains fold to 3bet is quite high at 67%, which means he is calling with a narrow, quite strong range.

Flop might be meh, idc about that.

Turn is just button prodding...no thinking (over than "here we go again") at all.

Correct line is close to x/c turn, x/f river. As played turn is a trivial fold.

In game, I just though meh, bit of a cooler and moved on...the clue was I did not even note what villain showed up with (which in itself suggests a possible slight dynamic adjustment by villain to hero...maybe, idk).

Hand 2 versus unknown

A simpler hand and one, given relative positions, that some pros might just cast off as a cooler. Yeah, I can't because I have spent like three months developing dynamic range charts and in this spot, IP versus an unknown I flat QQ (and AK). Not much point in having ranges if you are gonna ignore them FFS

Further fails...probably tilted and influenced by villains emerging stats.

Correct line, call the 3bet and then the hand plays itself...I have no problem at all find the fold btn post flop.

One success story...hero realises after this hand he is playing like a woman's lady garden, quits, and foxtrot oscars to the gym instead, where he starts to think it through.

Working my way through The Mental Game of Poker 2, and I've just read something I can totally relate to...

Another mistake players often make is giving too much attention to their biggest winning and losing hands...

He then goes on to explain what sort of hands we should focus on.

This is pretty exactly how I used to do things in my old thread. Synergising my off table HH work, with the stuff I would post on here to get alternative views. I stopped doing it because I thought my thread would be more entertaining with less strat and more spewy hands.

Screw that...time is precious, I'm going back to my old posting style.

Jared is right.
