In Depth Analysis
The results are by no means stellar. My 2016 winrate dipped from 4.5evbb/100 to 1.9evbb/100. Volume of hands might have affected it, but I believe some of the below changes I've been testing are the culprit:
- Checking more GTO- Balancing stronger hands in checking and increasing C/R %. Overall cbet dropped from 48% to 38%.
- Defending much wider in BB - Started using UpswingPoker's BB defending strategy. It didn't work very well with the 5.5% rake structure in NJ.
- Decreased Aggression - My agression dropped as I tried to play closer to GTO. I felt in these weaker games, I am losing too much value by not playing an explotative strategy.
Digging through my database, the biggest winners in 2016 seem to be playing a whole different strategy than what I have been trying above. Many have very high cbets around 65-80% and an aggressive top heavy 3betting style. These big winners don't attempt to balance their checking range at all and almost always folds after checking. Even more intriguingly, their river bets are dis-proportionally weighted towards value. Maybe it is the higher rake structure, maybe it's the player pool, I am not certain on why these strategies are working as well as they are. What I do know is that I'll be going through my database more in the coming days and reworking my own ranges for 2017.
Thank you all for following. Planning another mini PG&C for 2017 with a $$ goal. Stay tuned!
