I was up over $500 at one point and made the worst call I possibly have ever made. Player jams $70 on 9s9hTs flop only like $3 in pot and I called with open end straight flush draw. I don't even know what came over me. I wasn't even tilting at the time. I am now that I made such a dumbass play. I still can't let it go. I am having to call it a night at a $128 session loss.
It's very difficult to quit, the games are so great right now. Have to get my mind right for weekend grind.
This is all regular tables 10NL-50NL. Over 8bb/100 win rate.
I played some PLO the other day for the first time and had a lot of fun. I'm going to be taking a NL break for now and playing around with PLO25. I have no idea what I am doing and I'm down 6 buyins over 3k hands. Will see how it goes after 10K hands.
Sounds to me like you're playing well, but have a massive issue with discipline, I would suggest to write down the rules of when you're going up and when are you going down and actually stick to it(the level of risk you're comfortable is up to you, but you have to stick to what you tell yourself or I just can't see a good outcome), cause at the start you seemed to be using 30 BI rule and that quickly went out the window, this seems like a recipe for a disaster.
Anyway, just throwing my 2 cents in here, cause actually sticking to bankroll management was the thing that helped me finally see some consistent success in poker.
Grinded 5k hands of PLO25. Down 11BI, and tilting, I took some time off. I had never read anything about PLO, I barely knew anything about it. I just knew its too much fun and unlikely that I would return to grinding NL.
At first, I thought I was just running bad. I had no idea how bad I was playing. I quickly realized it's a miracle I'm only down 11BI.
I devoured everything I could about PLO during my small break. Spent 12+ hours working on my game and a few more tweaking my HUD.
I'm hoping on PLO10 for tonight for practice and if it goes well will run at PLO25 when I feel comfortable. I'm still rolled for it. Updating thread goals shortly.
Very rough week on the PLO streets. I was devasted this past weekend and my losses really affected me mentally. Graph is embarassing to say the least.
Spoiler:
I analyzed my database and found a lot of hands I played awful. I was clearly tilting. I don't have a great understanding of PLO variance which led to me steaming. I was trying to sprint to the finish. My new rule is if I go down 8BI I will take a 48 hour break.
Still aiming for 10 day goals short term. Girlfriend is away for a few days so hope to get in a lot of volume.
PLO playing has been an absolute disaster. It's the devil's game and I waive the white flag. Disappointed I wasted so much time on it and obliterated my bankroll. I was crushing NL and shouldn't have left. Lesson learned.
Will be strictly NL from here on out. Starting back at 25NL zone. Once I win 20 BI here I will jump back in the 50NL.
This 10 day challenge was all over the place, total failure. I finally am back at 50NL where I was a couple weeks ago with a comfortable 20BI. I feel good about my NL game.
Had a bad session this morning, Losing 3 BI. I do feel I have been running poorly these past 10 days.
Welcome back to NL ...For first and last hand above are just coolers man shake it off, as for the second I'm not sure how 50NL play's (play 2NL/5NL/10NL) but can't we fold AK here? AK is a good 4-betting hand for the fold equality but calling here seem we our beat a high frequency of times (granted we are ahead here PF)

Thanks for the follow!
I would typically fold the AK, but several reasons my decision swung the other way. He was short stacked 50bb or so, I did have the suited combo, also there was several other blinds already in the pot, and he had fishier stats. Considering that, I took a higher variance play and thought I would be ahead enough of time to do it.
Looks like I will still be out of work for several more weeks at least. My new primary goal is get to 100NL in slightly over 4 weeks. By May the 25th I want at least 25BI bankroll for 100NL. I will take shots with 16-18 buy ins, but won't consider myself established at 100NL until I have a comfy 25BI roll.
I can't play as much as I want, because it will not fly with my girlfriend. Hopefully I can hit 40 hours per week over a 4 day spread Thursday-Sunday. That should give me roughly 10,000 hands per week.
Been playing 50NL zone. Didn't get in as much volume as I would have liked. Hard to go back to slow poker once you've tried zone. Been mixing in more bluffs and poker is a lot more fun that way.
Last weeks goals
10k hands - only 7,500
25 hands reviewed - yes
warm up - 50% of sessions
no media - 50% of sessions
Did make a small withdrawal yesterday and I'm sitting at 21.5 BI for 50NL.
Did not put in much volume past 10 days. Been crushing 50NL reg tables over 8k hands. Took a 100NL shot that resulted in -3BI(not included in graph). Followed it up with a 3 day break.
Can't emphasize enough how great breaks feel and I think are super beneficial to the grind. Breaks where you don't even look at anything poker related.
Lockdown made me weak, I fell off health and exercise. Gained quite a bit of weight and feel lazy. Have had a run past 4/5 days and will continue to do a run first thing every morning.
Have 3 weeks left before back to work. Have to push it hard. Plan is to grind many hands at 50NL getting another shot ready for 100NL. 20 BI for shot? Will decide after weekend. For now, I'm thinking less than 20 BI play negatively effects my bb/100.
Those goals above are weak. Weak goals = weak results.
Have I fallen apart due to lockdown cabin fever? I've fell off all my good routines and diet has gone to complete garbage. I've got 3 weekends left before having to return to work. I will do everything I can to put myself in the position to be able to grind 100NL before then.
END LOCKDOWN GOALS: Will they result in a 100NL reg?
1> Grind 25K hands of 50NL reg tables to produce a sample to be analyzed. If I reach +20BI for 100NL I will take 5 BI shots at 100NL. Rinse and repeat until I stick.
>I will only check results post session
>I will keep my phone away during session
>I will not let my win/loss daily affect my moods
2> Run minimum 2.6 miles per day, include 1 long run per week. Ideally these runs would be done first thing.
3> Complete my updated morning routine. Focus on being grateful.
This is since beginning of thread. 4.5 bb/100. From 10NL-50NL where I am currently grinding.
I'm getting back to the top of my game and back on top of life. When this thread started I was running half marathons and getting in marathon shape. Currently I'm at the heaviest I've ever been and really struggling to run 3 miles. Covid lockdown took a tole on me mentally. I didn't realize how far I was spiraling into depression, which is quite dangerous for me. Was still able to grind out a steady win rate during all this.
My NL holdem game has improved drastically. It's clear after this sample I am a winner in these games, yet I don't feel I played that great. I'd grade my entire play a C-. Which is promising considering my results over this sample. There are a decent amount of punts and spazz plays in there that I think I wouldn't do today. I can play much better and more focused. I'm very confident in my game while preparing for the move to a 100NL regular.
I'm getting my routine back in order. I've ran 10/11 days with 7 days in a row. Have a solid morning routine, been fasting, and better sleep. I neglected how beneficial having a routine and daily goals are.
Grateful for life and to be able to compete at the virtual felts. God Bless America.
