Re: Dancing with the Old Lady, the Journey continues...

Michael-Angel

Unresolvable mystery of the week : how the hell did I end up in first place of the rakerace on Day 6 while barely playing the first 3 days The goal is to put in 5-6h daily until Wedenesday where the ME starts in Romania ; it would really surprise me to bink it again, but given that my 4 villains barely logged in a minute on a Friday-Saturday, I guess I have a fighting chance... I do not want to overwork myself though in Sinaia where the ski hills will be sitting just outside and my focus needs to be on the ME and the HR...

Florence is a charming little place, to say the least Am enjoying this rabid pace of visiting 2-4h daily, grinding 4-5h in the hotel room and then chilling/doing some writing in the afternoon/evening This said, I will also be happy when I settle down come Lima and get my own place for a few months yo

Speaking of which, I have been focussing on cutting my expenses, mainly pertaining to hotels... If I have averaged 100$/nightly over the past 6 months - I know, I know -, I have now been reducing that amount to 40-100$ I mean, it is not as if I needed to budget (I was still saving 80% of my income), but I really don't have a need for more expensive places... As long as I have a desk to work on, a private bathroom/shower and a cozy enough room, all is good. Of course, many of the areas I have been visiting lately required for me to upper my expenses, but such will not be the case in Peru, of course, and the upcoming Romania and Croatia.

I don't think I have a ton to recommend in Malaga, as I was unimpressed with the restaurants/cafes I went to, so outside of the very obvious stuff, I don't see what else I can point out... (and from what I can tell you are going with friends for a wedding, right, so lots of places to hangout at and have fun ) I do recommend Granada though if you have a chance (100kms away, but no direct route in public transportation, I believe...).

Thx bro I made sure of the logistics before coming here, as it would of detered me from doing so if it potentially would of got me in shyt. I play on Unibet. I contacted the higher-ups directly and let them know of my travel plans/VPN usage (for security purposes only).

80% saving rate? That seems a little high if you were averaging $100/night on rooms for half of 2017 alone. Would love to see you break down some basic numbers if you were at all interested for yourself. If not, no worries. I just personally love seeing the numbers behind others peoples lives wrt to money.

Either way, if you’re anywhere close to that take home pay savings rate, you’re gonna be financially free pretty damn soon if you keep it up. Congrats! Keep crushing!

Pisa

Pisa seems to be alright. But still, I am looking forward to a week of tournaments in Romania Well, probably not a week's worth, as I can see myself investing time in the virtual world given my current 1st place position in the rakerace, as it is simply worth it, even if I would personally prefer to grind live tourneys

I have been communicating okayish in Italy, but surprisingly moreso in Spanish and French (and a few Italian words) than English Which, given that Europe is more isolated/self-sufficient culturally when it comes to the Americanization of the world, is not so surprising after all. And quite cool if you are a proponent of diversity like I am

I do not keep spreadsheets of expenses/savings, so it is all approximative... That said, you did encourage me into looking back upon my 2018's finances - well, more like a glance than anything else - and realize that indeed, 80% was a tad generous But I still managed to save upwards of 60% - hard to determine precisely without a thorough analysis, as my investments are spread out across different forms...

I maintain a minimalistic lifestyle even if my lodging and food habits seem to indicate otherwise But outside of these 2 (and flights and the likes), I really do not consume any material goods, have substantial payments (no house, car, health care or outrageous insurance to cover). Also, there is always periods of the year where I am either doing (monastic) meditation retreats, staying with my folks or sister, paying monthly rent (as opposed to nightly) etc. Anyhow, this is what 50$ (38USD$) will net you in Pisa :

Really not great, but (of course) passable and with a desk to grind, yet indicative of how expensive touristic places can be It is not difficult for me to live like a monk, but what I do seek though, is hotels/BnBs rated above 4 stars (on tripadvisor/booking) and pretty much never go below that threshold (I like good people/service ).

Yeah man, thx, I believe I only have 2 years left with my present schedule (30h/week) before cutting it in half/switching to part time This said, even if I was "whatever, I am averaging 150$/h" in 2018 and it was easy to spend 5k+ a month when I was scooping in 20k, I believe it is strongly within the realm of possibility that I might fail to average 3 digits hourly this year... And, regardless, I'd rather be spending more time in a single place (like South-America) and thus paying monthly rent/purchasing a place than constantly moving around. Anyhow, thx for your question/comment bro

Re: Dancing with the Old Lady, the Journey continues...

Love/(F**king) Hate Relationship

Games have not running until well into the evening for the past couple of days, like starting at past 17:00 Just last week, I could comfortably start my session at noon and get 6 tables going and 8 in no time ; but today, at 14:30, I could only get 2 going, one of them being PLO 400z which is a stake I am trying to avoid at this 4 card game, especially shorthanded Not sure what is going on…

You guys listened to the interview with Andrew Robl? He always left a bad impression upon me. Not that I have ever met him/played with him, but the novel Ship it Hola Ballas! did not portray him as the most likeable fellow, but moreso as a little dip-shyt-Balla-wanna-be. Of course, I should know better than to simply buy into the direction of the narrative (and who wasn't somewhat of an arse in their early 20's ), but when you have little to no first hand information on a guy, you have to come to a conclusion with secondhand info, right… Anyhow, really loved his honesty and how he chokes/almost starts crying 8 minutes into the interview when he is asked about the difficulties he went through coming up into the poker world :

https://www.highstakesdb.com/9334-ro...-in-poker.aspx

Too many times you see athletes/competitors respond with scripted answers like a fracking robot, but Robl lets loose on his struggles with pride/strive for success/fear of failure/proving everyone else wrong. I mean, how often do you see an athlete be self-aware enough to admit that without his unhealthy amount of obsession that he holds for the game, he would of never made it… Or flat out admit that in order to succeed, you oftentimes need to put aside balance of life, happiness… Or to question if it is all worth it… You see musicians do it more often, right, as through their lyrics they can be transparent with their love/hate relationship with their own passion - or just f**king burn their guitars/pianos to the ground in front of everyone -, or writers question their paradoxal relationship with words/language, but I wish someone like a Kevin Durant would bluntly scream out to the media how his love for the game has made him hate f**king Bball

Da Pokerz Nonstop Yo

At the Pisa airport right now, waiting for the start of my Romanian adventure AKA binking a tournament yo The next week will be jam packed with a ton of poker, which will be exciting af, obviously, but punctuated with bouts of fatigue and tilt

So I started a poker thread on my FB wall of the upcoming Unibet Open series and while I usually get a substantial amount of likes/replies - for me at least as the amount of luv has left me warm hearted in the past -, but this time around, nothing. Like fracking nada To the extent where I wonder how my post might of gotten relegated to ether by FB's dubious algorithm system

Let's be honest here : I like the recognition. The short term effect of the dopamine hits. But mainly, that comforting feeling that compensates (somewhat) for those moments in the past where it was lacking, right... Think of that scared little boy/teenager that goes to a new school/high school and struggles to make friends at first... Of course, it remains a vain quest to seek present ephemeral bandaids for past shortcomings, but such is life isn't it, an egotistical pursuit (for the most part) when it comes to materialistic or emotional goals... Of course, one could sit there for the rest of his life Buddha style and transcend fracking mind and matter, but where is the joy in that, right
Spoiler:

Man those Full Tilt guys were spoiled af back in the day ; Negreneau was speaking of that bet that happened live on Poker After Dark in between Ivey and Dwan, where they bet, str8 up, a mil that Phil cannot be a vegetarian for a year The easiest million ever, right!?!?! Wrong : Phil bought out after a month for 150k It speaks more about the disposable money they had back then (and how they never thought they would lose their f**king crowns) then any form of laziness, really.

Re: Dancing with the Old Lady, the Journey continues...

Sinaia

Bagged up 61bbs for Day2 on Friday ; it was a fun day, especially when the dreadful quiet I-am-glued-to-my-phone players got replaced by a few peeps that wanted to discuss sports and, you know, life and all that jazz

Am really - like REALLY - happy with my play. All my big bluffs got through - I needed it, as I had not many pretty cards to work with -, I bluff-caught in the right spots - come on buddy, X-Raising me on a K24 board is simply not going to cut it when I bet 20% pot with my 4x , had the right reads, got away from a few (perhaps) suicidal tempting bluffing spots... And more importantly, now that I have bagged up a substantial amount, I won't have to play Day 1C and thus focus on online (and visiting Sianaia), where I am still first in the rakerace (albeit not by much, but it seems that all other TOP Unibet players are here...). I will going skiing, but perhaps I will need to extend my stay by 1 day on Monday to do so, depending on the rakerace...

I would have a few hands of interest to share with you guys, but am tired/will put in a few hours online. Ohhhh, whatever, here is a fast one :

I defend J7 in the BB, villain cbets on QJ5 board ; I obviously call. I lead out 35% on 5 turn because it hits my range/I want to charge his draws (which I put him on), but villain raises 4x because... why the f**k is he raising when he has little to no 5x I call, planning on calling all non A, K or 10 rivers... River bricks, X-X, MHIG

+600$ in 11h online and ? in 9h live

Thx man. It is insane how exploitative/fishy/non-standard are the lines I use in live mid-highstakes MTTs as oppose to my more GTO online play It just fits better with my table image

Here is another one that I saw tonight that I will almost always use from now on : limping on my first hand at a new table and especially at the beginning of a tournament. Seems simple, right, but saw a guy do it and he proceeded to always raise from then on. I caught on pretty quickly and tagged him from rec to reg barely after an orbit, but it might take some other peeps 2-3 rounds to do so... Thus a single limp can buy you a full hour of highly profitable play when you are 42, have a nice shirt on and those egostical 20 something bad pros will try to pounce on you with their unbalanced ranges

I got also put to the test by that J7 villain when I had raised AK pre and saw him and BB to defend. I cbet on the bigger side (>50% pot) on K23, barreled 80% PSB on 4 and he X-jammed about 4.5x. I went into the tank, initially wanting to fold but found a call (for almost all my stack) after 90 seconds when I just could not put him on 2 pairs and it had to be a set or draw, the latter by FAR outweighing the former, of course, in terms of combos

Haha i use the open limp trick whenever I'm visiting a new room.

Have a bottle of beer (I dont drink), ask floor to change tv to *insert game I dont care about here* and open limp my 1st hand. Like you said, they dont catch on. Worth every white chip in reputation ev imo

Im surprised to hear someone else doing this

I feel like you're describing the Holy Grail of poker--adapting not only to players, but to radically different player pools. Extremely impressive that you're able to move between these styles/worlds.

GL in the tourney!

After the Dust Settles...

If you had told me that I would finish 37th and cashed for 2300 Euros before the event started, I would of snap-accepted it yo But the thing is, you don't go to war to watch, hopelessly, while 36 runners sprint ahead of you... You don't put your soul on the line for a "gg bro, thx for playing" This said, I have booked a profit in all of my series going back to April last year, at the Party Millions where I bubbled it That is 5 and counting, 3 of them being massive wins (25k+ a piece), while the latter 2 have been negligible (barely 1k) ; but darn, as far as dodging live MTT negative variance goes, that is pretty fracking impressive yo And perhaps more importantly, I had a few people (both recs and pros alike) that I befriended during this run that told me how it is fun to play with me

So I am still first in my rakerace with 30h to go. I will bink this, no doubt, for the extra 3.1k This said, this might involve that I prolong my stay in Sinaia to finally hit the ski hill, before going to Bucharast for one night where I (might...) have a date with a lovely sophisticated - ehhhhh high maintenance - lady After which I will be 8 days in Croatia, 3 days in Montreal (might play a 1k in Gatineau...), 3 days in Calgary (I have a dinner date with my Japanese lady friend which f**king rocks yo ), a 3 weeks intense meditation retreat and then my flight for Peru in April. Yup, that's for the next couple of months folks Not sure how my poker schedule will sneak in within this schedule, but given that I should be at approximately +15k for 2019 by next week, I will perhaps stick my head out of the virtual world and turn it towards life or something

Yeah, I also had the softest table in the past 3 days (I actually held the best HendonMob at my table, me , that fellow that 14 months ago his HM was still virgin But I did manage to bring it into 6 digits in that span though ) and I came out firing on all cylinders yo The problem is, when you have a preset plan like this (and wake up still groggy ), you oftentimes force yourself vs the flow of the metagame... I did run bad in all instances though (losing 40-60, 70-30 and 25-75% flips, have everyone fold to me when I am holding JJ etc.), but perhaps patience would of been more appropriate that opening up my ranges as wide as the freaking-fracking Grand Canyon

I hate to cast aspersions, which I guess is actually what I am doing with my next statement, but I don't think that Kevin Durant's brain works very well. This is a bit mean spirited perhaps, but I have thought this for some time, listening to his interviews and thoughts throughout his time playing for OKC,he comes off as a bit simple minded to dumb. My read is probably wildly inaccurate though as I have a very impersonal lens through which to inspect the man's intelligence, and no authority to do such either. *I'm also a jaded ex-fan of his on-court prowess.

Sunday Luring

Pretty much guaranteed to bink that 3.1k rakerace at this point yo
I guess that our 2nd place fellow pretty much reluctantly approached it like I did, thinking that there was no way he could win it when factoring in his live play here (he has not passed me once, despite always being within striking distance...) I did want to jump in the 330E progressive bounty, if only to prove that my Dublin binkage was not fluky ; but alas, it is better to keep my availability flexibility, in case villain makes a run at it.

I just got a massage by the most drop-dead-gorgeous-blondie-girl to ever fracking exist I know, I know, you folks are there "yeah, right, he always likes to exaggerate for narrative purposes - and I do -, but darn, believe me ladies and gents when I say that she is carved like a Goddess... Think blond hair, big expressive eyes, mountain size boobs Anyhow, I had gotten a couple of massages from her over the past few days/chatted it up, but she somehow just gave me a free massage (albeit a short one...), as we casually befriended in French (she is a Romanian-Hungarian lady born in France, go figure ). I am not sure what it all means and if the door might be cracked open for me to ask her out
Spoiler:

Anyhow, let's snap out of this purposeless daydream, shall we So I got a few hours of grinding tonight (perhaps 2-3h will be sufficient to nail my binkage...), 2 episodes to finish off Dark (interesting dark sci-fi and it definitely gets better over the season
Spoiler:
, and then head to Bucharast for 2 days. I am quite happy that up until April, the grind will be smoother and less of a priority yo Am also content (enough) with the fact that we find ourselves at +17k for 2019 when factoring in the incoming RB/RR binkage

My read is probably wildly inaccurate though as I have a very impersonal lens through which to inspect the man's intelligence, and no authority to do such either. *I'm also a jaded ex-fan of his on-court prowess.
Yeeeeahhhh, some basketball content ITT ; life just got that much better Glad to see your OKC Thunder is doing mightily well, friend ; as are my Raptors, of course

Yeah, Durant is an interesting specimen... Or perhaps more an intriguing anthropological subject to be analyzed through the lenses of how celebrity in the multi-media age has an impact on a fragile egostical soul...

I initially intuitively thought of him just because I fathom he could be someone that would bluntly lose it/speak up against his own sport/livelihood, as his carefully calculated spontaneous-persona-public-image would perhaps warrant him to do so... What I had in mind though, is that love/hate passion that an artist/athlete/writer/musician/etc. has for their craft, AKA that essential part of themselves that simultaneously defines them and tears them open... I remember my ex gf telling me of how Tori Amos had burned down her piano in outrage, as her parents had put a tremendous amount of pressure on her to perform when she was growing up... (don't quote me on it though, can't find shyt about the incident ). But yeah, anyhow, I am glad that I feel more positive about poker lately and that I do not want to flip over a table for the fracking life of me

I'm glad to trot some Bball discussion up in any and all threads, biased as my point of view may be. You drew a perfect corollary with Kevin Durant in regard to the point that you were making. I got a little off topic and took the opportunity to rail against my perceived lack of intelligence KD possess. As biased as I am though, I have no problem in stating my reverence for KD's game. Guy is unreal, and un-guardable to the point of only he can really stop himself. I think more players could benefit from trying to get in KD's head though.

I'm glad to see you having some renewed passion, and monetary success my friend.

Waking Up the Dead

I guess a hotel might be noisy/chaotic when 300+ poker players are all checking out the same morning... Nonetheless, this has been a fun and successful series - my last night's 2h of sleep not withstanding, of course -, even if I limited my play to a single event

I believe I have a date lined up for tonight... Also contacted this Chinese-Canadian poker player chick to meet up in Gatineau (will most likely play the 1k-day event), the Japanese-Canadian in Calgary chick and then my eyes are set on the Peruvian lady... It is getting me dizzy, tbh, and a little disinterested in this forever-recycling-of-random-meetups... Single life gets old after a couple of years... This said, if it does work out with that Peruvian lovely lady, I do not want to have missed up on some adventures while being single (or stay faithful to a romantic relationship that may never be fulfilled...)

Not sure what exactly lies ahead in terms of entertainment in Bucharest, but the poker grind will be limited, that is for sure

Great. With April-June coming up rapidly, I am sure there will be some Bball content ITT Man, the 2nd-3rd round of the East is going to be epic af, assuming Toronto makes it to the conference finals... Giannis though

Thx for the well wishes friend

Brother, there is no woman that is out of your league.

You are a world traveling gentleman that speaks 3? languages (2 of them being languages of love) and you gamble to sustain and build your empire.

I'm getting wet just typing it out, and I'm a heterosexual male.

Symbiose with the Unknown

I am not sure to what extent life is cyclical… That we are swirling within a predetermined loop, forever and ever, until we break on through into the breach, that is… I do know that dreams evolve, that they have a lifeline of their own, a narrative independent to the outside world… More shall be explored about the substance of mind and matter in my next Ayahuascan journey, of course…

The cyclical nature of our dream world becomes more obvious when seen through the spectrum of repeated themes : fear, ambitions, desires… That slow narrative of not being able to move quickly can appear to be a meta quirkiness of the Dream Lord, right, but realization does shine upon us, after a good dose of self-awareness, that it is the mere presence of Fear that is preventing us from the liberation of the quicksands of our own oneiric limitations… Once we slowly unchain ourselves, the mouvements become smoother, the tone more agreeable… What might be harder to grasp on this side of the rainbow, is how we f**king chase our tails in our daily live, like a dog-eat-dog imprisoned philosophy… But I digress, of course.

The movie The Endless was f**king amazing and am not sure why I have not heard more echoes about this movie before… I also had to put on Annihilation afterwards, because GOAT movies are going to goat yo

Am off to Croatia today where I will be going down the coast from Zagreb to Dubrovnik (before looping back for my Montreal flight). I also rented a vehicle upon my Canadian arrival, so apparently I will be going to play the 1k in Gatineau because me got the live MTT bug sting :rolleye

And shout out to the 2 + 2ers that I have met via this thread ; one cool and inspiring fellow yesterday and a couple of others in Montreal/Canada that I reached out to meet up in Gatineau

Haha, thx bro This is the first time that I have used the expression out of my league and I guess it was done out of pure laziness, as it is true that it does fail to fairly represent the situation at hand... I remember a friend back in Montreal (also 42) who was going through marital rough times and had told me/showed me pics of this luscious 25 year old cool and freshly beautiful chick. I had responded - perhaps with words that he did not want to hear... -

- " Hey man, you still look good and all for being in your 40s, but I think that you have to ask yourself, why would such an attractive young lady want to be with a man twice her age... Is it the money, or is it something else that tilts the equation in your favour...".

Now this buddy of mine is - shall we say... - slightly more materialistic than I am in his choice of women, but nonetheless, when you are attracted by an outstanding quality like young age and, you know, boobs the size of Mount Everest , the equation thus becomes unbalanced and most be compensated for elsewhere, right... I mean, what's in it for her? How does the data on my side of the equation compensate for exponentially sumptuous, appetizing, succulent and - I am sure - yummy stats on her side of the statement... So anyhow, when I was in my late teens-20s, I did manage to reach perfect equilibrium with such, ehhhhh, savory women, but this time around, I went back to talk to her and when she seemed distant/uninterested, I just called it a day, because I am simply too good at math to have spent much more time crunching down the numbers, as appealing as the latter might appear

Re: Dancing with the Old Lady, the Journey continues...

I've thought alot lately about how women are attracted to wealth and status.

Even non-gold diggers usually list career/status as their #1/2 priority wrt attraction to men.

Recently I've found myself surprisingly "desirable" in the sense that old college friends message me out of the blue, previous friend zone acquaintences randomly ask me out for drinks, etc. Nothing has changed in my life besides my career/success, I'm still the weird nerd I've always been. I suppose also at 31 the game of musical chairs is speeding up a bit, especially for women wanting kids...so that can be a factor.

None of these women are people I would consider "shallow" in the pure materialistic sense, but I cant help but wonder if this MBA executive would have the same attraction to me if I was a writer.

Eastern European Luv

Well, it's official folks : Romania and Croatia has the most beautiful women by far of this year's itinerary Who would of phunked it, right If I was thrown for a loop at first in Czech Republic and Spain when I ran absolutely hot for my first few female encounters, the equation rapidly stabilized itself

Croatia reminds me a lot of my Belarusan friend who has eyes round like the world And emotional af I kid you not, but it is an absolute delight to let yourself get absorbed by the swirling effect of their roundness and lose yourself in the euphoric vortex effect

Money has been a bit too much on my mind lately In fact, I spent all of this morning's hour meditation session getting distracted by $$$ bills Not cool yo, not cool at all... And it goes to show that no matter how much you scoop in the monies and hence find yourself with a financial cushion, the stress will still somewhat be there. Of course, am not complaining at all and never would I ever fracking forget to what extent third world countries are exposed to it from an existential critical POV, but all I am saying is that we are slaves to the dollar bills... Until we are not, of course

Interesting POV friend I have changed my stance on this subject over the past years (as I did with lots of stuff, of course ), but my ex from a couple of decades ago, met the father-to-be of her child at the age of 24 when he was 41. I always thought he was a smart-talented-cool dude and all (and also a writer), but was surprised by my buddy's assessment recently, who simply stated

- "She hooked up with him for the money".

And I was there "no man, but the financial security that he provided was a part of the equation". And I do think that this difference in wording is quite significant. Which women does not factor in (and some heavily, of course) financial security, or just security as a whole... I believe it is a big component of her male preference. Seen from the outside, the relationship of my ex (was fracking gorgeous and still is ) with her bf (ugly yet cool, skilled and rich) can be mistaken as a typical gold digger/hot young chick ordeal, but it isn't. And is a little, of course.

At this point in my life, I got nothing against peeps that are vain - and I am to a certain extent, of course -, but not wanting to personally go beyond this materialistic threshold/transcend it, lacks in purpose, me thinks.

Re: Dancing with the Old Lady, the Journey continues...

I completely agree. There is nothing wrong with valuing security, in fact it is totally standard from a logical / evolutionary perspective.

Its just something that I mull over from time to time. Will I ever meet the unconditional love I had when I was 25 and broke and had literally nothing to offer my gf but my humor and kindness?

Now, as I meet long term prospects, whether they find my humor and kindness attractive or not...my status will inevitably be a part of the equation, even if it is just at a subconscious level.

The Beat goes On

A 9h bus ride, half of it which was spent snoozing I still enjoy a lot ground transportations, if not for the peaceful roaring of the motor, the slight bumps on the road, the fleeting landscapes across the windows... I have been indulging in planes quite often over the past year, but it seems that poker was oftentimes behind the reasoning, as I would oftentimes be involved in a time-consuming promotion or another...

Am still a little bummed out by da pokerz as anytime I seem to get some momentum going, Lady Fracking Luck smacks me in the face for some of that nonsensical variance shyt storm that we have grown accustomed to over the years... Since my results have not justified my TITANIC spending going back to the WPT in Montreal, I have turned my mind towards my finances lately and the need to weed them off slightly... (and lest not forget the downfall of cryptos, shall we not ). But anyhow, I don't really feel like expanding any further on poker or da monies, so without further ado, some more talks on da ladies/relationships, shall we not

Of course my personal journey into relationships is my own, but I believe I have given up a little on this romantic concept of what makes me unique... When my ex gf (from the previous posts) gave me her heart and soul when I was a broke hippie wanderer, were my good looks and youth (both vain af) not as much a significant part of the equation as my present wealth and more mature wisdom are... I do think that when I compare the qualities I seek in a partner (most notably being smart, pretty, liberal, compassionate) to those that perhaps she seeks in me, financial security is more heavily weighed on her side of the equation, of course, but it has more to do with us being in our 30-40s (where stability and security are more intrinsic to our lives), than it was in our 20s (when dreaming of a future together was more of a distant contemplation...). What I do find curious about the natural evolution of couples and how we socially live our lives, is how someone that has yet to enter my life (am still single), will suddenly become an integral part of it... That strikes me as odd from a mathematical POV, does it not... Anyhow, this has been an interesting discussion/digression Avaritia, but on with this bus ride I shall go now
