WPT... Ehhhh, whatever

I don't feel great about today - but such is my eternal conflicting relationship with live MTTs where I do not handle the variance very well -, even if I did manage to switch to an extremely exploitative game and abuse the weaker pros that are ohhhh so f**king predictable But fatigue kicked in though Enough to instil my play with some significant sizing errors, one of which saw me misclick/not capitulate on value when I bet 1.3x pot (with the wrong colour chip) as opposed to the desired 35% (I got 2nd pair to fold which normally would of called vs my TPTK ). Anyhow, I fired 2 bullets and made it to Day 2 with 68bbs - sure, cool -, yet clearly under the average

Yeah friend, I totally agree Plus she did get back to me and clearly showed me quite the interest I actually told her to come meet up with me in Spain so we could have our coffee date after all And she seems... kind of really interested Also really nice to get this level of attention from a hot 24-26 year old chick after all that platonic time spent up north in Dawson I mean, I don't figure the EV of this working out being north of 0.2-6% or something, but I am still letting my equity run, which is the most part of the equation, as opposed to drawing dear

In other news, I was flirting with a massage girl here in Montreal Sexy, about 30-34, luscious, flirtatious af. In fact, she was coming on to me quite strong during my WSOPC stint here 2 months ago ; but this is purely lust (as opposed to the aforementioned Japanese lady), as she is quite the gold digger (she was paying extra attention to me during my SHR final table run ), yet I will still ask her out... Because yolo, right To be continued...

Will grind online for the next 2 days (I might go try a couple of satellites for the HR though at The Playground…) and go buy a new Mac Pro laptop (my Mac air no longer handle the heat of the online grind and has hence been crashing/freezing quite frequently).

Free Solo

Ehhhhh, I keep taking beatings online every time I try to login and hence find myself tilted/cutting my sessions short It's been a rough 2 months and a lot of my potential run good/turning the tides lies on how well I will do tomorrow in Day 2 of the ME ; way to instil yourself with pressure buddy by attributing a lot of importance to an extremely volatile game I am trying by all means to look at it as a freeroll given that I have cashed for 68k thus far in live MTTs in 2018, but alas, no, I just f**king want to do well... Bah, I think I will take the rest of the day off.
Spoiler:
It is funny how a period of run good goes from "I will play any reg HU/bring on anybody yo" to a stint of run bad where I refused to play exclusively vs 2 regs today

So that Japanese charming lady from Calgary has unexpectedly stayed in touch/showed a solid amount of interest. We have been messaging on a daily basis and we will see if this goes anywhere... She is much younger than me (26), but f**k it, she really seems like a special one, so will roll the dice, even if my equity is so little that it makes craps appear like a fracking gold mine

Just purchased 4 really good tickets to go see the Habs with my Sis, bro in law and niece next week. Will also go check out Free Solo with my other sister, the latest National Geographic documentary on Alex Honnold's climb of El Capitain in Yosomite :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S4F3JK7oHn0

Here is the top commentary in the youtube trailer feed :

"This is the greatest athletic achievement in the history of humankind. Think of all the badass climbers who have come through Yosemite and not one has free solo'd ANY ROUTE on El Capitan. It's astonishing. Alex Honnold has achieved immortality with this climb. If you wanted to win Wimbledon starting today, you would have a better chance than duplicating this climb.".

I had never heard of Alex Honnold before watching Valley Uprising, a couple of weeks back : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQXWnoipdFE

But anyhow, the dude is a freak of nature, but looks totally geekish. I hope he is still around for a few years, given that pretty much most free Soloers before him have perished

Made it to Day 3 with 25bbs. Never managed to do anything else really but survive (whenever I tried to become the table captain, peeps would offer resistance and I would just get smacked by bad variance ). But I did manage to win a flip and a 25 > 75 for my tourney life

Send some run good folks as I believe in that shyt and vibes and all, so please take 2 seconds and send Dubnjoy some run good, deal!?!

The plan is to cash tomorrow and, if I do happen to bust out, then I will jump in the 1.7k Deepstacks (probably will play the 550$ 6 max on Sunday as well...).

Thx guys, back later to update, but 33 left, 22.5k guaranteed, I have 22bbs. I just badly misplayed a hand vs Patrick Serba for the life of me, but fatigue got the better and made a blocker bet on river which opened me up to be bluffed... Terrible mistake and a very rec move, especially when it was a clear X-call bluff-catcher Must... Re.... Focus...

Finished 17th for 36.5k which I am pretty happy with Considering that this was my worst performance this year as far as tournaments goes and that my deep run was exclusively dependent upon so well timed run good, I am happy with the outcome. There are 2 big pots where I got bluffed, one where gg, nice bluff (he is a friend), the other was exhaustion and frankly unforgivable. Anyhow, I still have a ton to learn as far as live MTTs goes, but in the meantime, we have crossed the 200k mark for 2018 yo

The Aftermath

Soooooo the emotional joyride went from (curiously) feeling ecstatic after busting out, to feeling down, embarrassed and a little powerless when reviewing 2 spots where I got bluffed/capped my range with sizing tells, to now content when overseeing the big picture of what has been my 2018 thus far

Speaking of getting bluffed out of big pots though... I went through a terrible bout of fatigue/borderline exhaustion during the span of an hour on Day 3, which clearly was reminiscent of my young hockey days where I froze/f**ked up in a critical moment... I was on the first trio of our hockey club mainly for my defensive prowess (I would always get the puck in the corners), as the 2 other forwards were elite scorers but lazy af on defense (I was a decent scorer and moreso productive when teamed up with these 2, but still did better on the other end of the ice...). Anyhow, we are in an important hockey tournament, down 2-1 with a few minutes to go in the 3rd period when a golden opportunity comes rolling my way... I am open on the right side of the net, the goaltender is on the left side, the net is completely open, and the puck gets sent my way... and I fracking freeze I mean, I manage to score this shot 999 times out of a 1000. But not this time. Something weird happened this time around... Time froze, I clearly saw the puck come slowly towards me, the open net, the golden opportunity, but for some unknown reason, I was powerless and frozen in time It happens. And it happened again on Day 3.

So back to poker : exhaustion kicked in and for the ensuing hour, I just could not focus right. The time clock had been active since the bubble (30 seconds decisions with 4 extra 30 second time bank cards). So anyhow, I got cards so found myself splashing around but f**ked up in a big pot vs Patrick Serda in a spot that I should make my hand a bluff-catcher by X-calling river as opposed to merging, capping my range and thus opening myself to getting exploitatively bluffed out After thus playing my A game during Day 1 and 2, Day 3 saw me dwell in C and B territory

Of PLO MTTs and Hot Asian Women

God I am terrible So fracking clumsy with socia media sometimes But let's not get ahead of ourselves and start with the beginning, shall we (before I tripped over my own feet that is...)...

I was doing well in the tournament, smoooothly grooooving along yo, not feeling any self-inflicted pressure after my solid weekend... gliding along, with the wind in my back, hair flying away, you get the groove, right So anyhow, there is this cute af Asian waitress with whom we have exchange quite a few smiles over the past couple series at the Playground, much like tonight, where we had talked briefly and smiled a lot She is about 35, has a tattooed sleeve, red hair and a combination of class and hippyness yo My kind of chick, shall we conclude So I try to find her during the 1.1k PLO break to tell her how beautiful she is and ask her out... but, alas, she had apparently already signed of and left the premises FML Will probably not see her until next year...

To then making it to the final table of the PLO event and being blessed by getting seat 8, just on the left of the cute Asian lady She is about 45, sexy with a ton of makeup, a whale, seemingly bored and darn did we enjoy flirting with each other She was talking of the Bahamas, us going to play there together... Me getting her whatsapp # and then, after busting in 5th and falling short of the 25k first place - played my A game, so whatever -, I messaged her and asked to meet up for lunch tomorrow But here is the thing : shortly after, I get a message from another friend, let him know how I just asked a cute Asian chick out and how we were flirting nonstop at the table until... I realized that I was actually messaging the Asian chick again Haha, f**k I am clumsy This went from being a 100% lock of a date, to perhaps a coin flip now She has read my messages but not responded to them, oh well.

Back in the next couple of days to review this week's WPT, answer your posts and to establish the plan of action for my last 2 weeks here in Montreal before heading out to Dublin yo

2 Week Plan

So the flight is booked for Dublin on November 18. My buddy will be getting married in Czech Republic to his Cebuana fiance, so apparently I will not be going down to London and crossing to France... Will instead hop on a plane to Prague and then head to Spain. But before getting to ahead of ourselves, let's look back at the WPT and establish some plans for the 2 weeks to come, shall we

WPT :

It stung to have made it to 17th, but fall short of a tremendous amount of monies that implied making it to the top 5 In fact, while grinding the 1.1k PLO yesterday, I was avoiding by all means to catch the live ME final table stream on the big screens (which showed Serda bink in part because of some of my chips that I mindlessly donated ). But yeah, you are right that I should not feel ashamed. I have done amazingly this year and this past week in general, even if Day 3 of the ME saw me play utterly terrible due to fatigue. As far as the hand in question, I'd rather not dwell upon it (it still stings a little) and am not looking for some feedback ; but let's just say that my sizing was bad, that I foolishly capped my range which led me to be exploited, and that the river was a clear X/C as oppose to a B/F.

Other notes on WPT : Marc-Andre Ladouceur is a class act. I failed to recognize many known pros that I played with until after the fact (Sorel Mizzi, Jonathan Little, Melanie Weisner etc.), and the same happened with M-A. He was sitting to my right, was neatly dressed up (which led to believe he is a businessman), was polite, civil, humble, much like yours truly in many ways, tbh, and it wasn't until a few hours in that I realized that he was not in fact a rich rec, but a savvy pro very aware of his image and the importance of being good for the game Funny thing is, I have much of the same table image then he does, yet still fell for it

PLO : As much as I am doing well in the 4 card game live, I have been taking a beating in the virtual midstakes games for the past month So anyhow, I will either have variance go my way and upswong or move down to 100z until I get back into some PLO studying post-Dublin.

Studying : Back to the 2 card cash game lab time for 2 weeks until a few days prior to Dublin, where I will bend down on the MTT books once again. After that, I will spend a few months on PLO and make sure I then crush 200z and move up to 400z again yo

Da Grind : If initially I wanted to go hard for the remainder of 2018, I will perhaps cut my volume to 25h/week or so... After this unexpected weekend, I do not see the need to burn myself out/reach the quarter million for the year. Am at 212k and anything above 225k will be jussssstttt fine

Women : Ooooofff, I am single and scattered in this area yo for starters, there are 2 women that I really liked over the past 18 months (since I have been single) and would of been ready to make significant sacrifices in order to debut what could be a serious relationship : the Belarusan IT chick living in Munich and more recently the Calgary Japanese girl. Worthy to mention : the Peruvian 23 year old chick is absolutely amazing, but a bit too young and I do not want to engage in another relationship where the financial disparity is such that it influences other areas and creates an unsettling equilibrium, sorta speak. Anyhow, I am still pursuing the 2 aforementioned, even if my equity is in single digits, me thinks. But as far as casual relationships goes, I am God damned open to almost anything

She got back to me, so you were definitely right And yeah, I am a protocol French-romantic-softee fellow and, on top of that, am a feminist and respect enormously women Anyhow, she did not have time to meet up before jumping on the train to Toronto and I will not pursue anything else with her on my end, and she is seemingly trouble and not the type of lady I would want to follow through for something substantial.

Uprising El Capitain

No one had attempted to free solo the intimidating af El Capitain granite wall until Alex Honnold did so in 2017 in under 4h

Alex Honnold is a fascinating and complex fellow. Beyond that friendly and simple facade of his, is tucked strong underlined determining character traits that stem from determination, stubbornness, humility, acceptance and a ton of seemingly heterogenous qualities.

It is refreshing to see a freak of nature like Honnold be so casual and detached about his unprecedented feat ; we need more humble peeps like Alex that can (almost) literally move mountains I can also relate quite naturally to his life choices, notably stuff like a minimalistic nomadic lifestyle, being a vegetarian, grounded, rational, determined af with an unhealthy amount of fear of failure.

Noteworthy moment : On his first try of attacking the face of El Capetain, Alex freaks out and calls off the climb to the surprise of the filming crew. When he gets back down, his embarrassment is BIG as the f**king world as he is voicing the reason behind the crippling terror that made him reverse his ascension I mean, the guy is attempting a feat not only unprecedented but - let's be honest here - fracking otherworldly, yet suffers immensely from a small setback Anyhow, I highly recommend Free Solo yo +1.5k in 3h online

Habitants (AKA Habs)

Night and day is what separates the first 3/4 of 2018 on the virtual realm to now getting kicked in the f**king nuts anytime I try to net some monies online in the past couple of months I know that variance had a say in my previous 200$ hourly and that it was not sustainable in the long run, but maintaining something like 135$/h at year's end would be pretty sweet, especially given that RB reductions are planned for 2019.

Am going to see the Habs tonight which should be fun. I got 4 tickets at 200$ a pop and sure prices are outrageous and all, but when factoring in that they are located in the 100s just behind the player's bench and that I got it at a markup 10 days in advance, the price tag is not too bad

I think I might go play some 5-10 PLO at the Playground for a couple of hours tomorrow evening... The main reason would be to go ask the waitress out to dinner, which I couldn't do last time. I figure chances are pretty good she works on a Friday evening

Inner Reflections

I don't think I was ready for a 6 digit score... I found myself contemplating the impact of this (potential) eventuality while in the midst of my deep run in the WPT ME, and part of me was frightened by the magnitude of such a score Much like back a couple years ago, mind you, when plausible daily (down)swings of 2.5k would intimidate the living frack out of me and threw my inner balance out the f**king window But it wasn't just the conceivable downfalls that threw a case of vertigo my way, but the immensity of the higher heights equally threw me for a loop

The question that keeps popping up is : when will I get there again? When is the next time that I will win 5 consecutive flips ranging from 25-75% to 80-20%... One needs to Sun Run like fracking Egyptian God to give himself a chance to final table one of these 1000 player fields Then again, Mike Leah seemingly makes it every single time, so

The volume has been ridiculously low this week with a lack of motivation hindering it. I am keeping up with my studying though and I presume that Europe will increase my interest for the grind once again, even if I am not really looking to go beyond 30h a week ; if anything, I can easily dedicate 25h to da pokerz and 15h for studying, Spanish and writing yo

Am off to Gatineau tomorrow to go visit a buddy.

Swinging 4 the Fences

Back in the swing of things after a lol volume of 10h last week This said, since family time has been the priority and I cannot be arsed to wake up before 1pm and care little about adjusting to this timezone - will be +6h this coming Sunday, so why bother -, I did have to push myself to reach the 4h mark today

Have also been crushing 100z PLO and will probably remain at these lowstakes where I do have quite the significant edge. I will go back seriously into the 4 card lab for a few months come December, but in the meantime, 1-2 tables at these stakes will be just fine yo

So the goal this week is to cross the 20h threshold as far as volume is concerned, 3-4h for studying and I will also do an 8h day of meditation retreat to clear my mind ; mental fatigue has settled in, so the latter will be welcomed prior to my Dublin tournaments

Finally some decent volume for the day (5h) which should be the norm once in Europe when I will resume my travelling ways I do plan on having a gf pretty darn soon (I have a few (casual) dates lined up and am still surprisingly still chatting with the Japanese chick from Calgary who has shown a decent amount of interest ) to insert into a pretty balanced lifestyle including writing, meditating, dining out, visiting, grinding, social leisures which when all combined, will reach this perfect equilibrium yo

Am excited for the upcoming Dublin live tourneys - albeit still feeling remnants of exhaustion from the WPT - and have got myself a few k of Euros and USDs in cash for the Highroller BI yo I expect a deep run at the horizon, but perhaps my recent live success has created some unrealistic expectations

That's it for now, will go finish season 2 of Ozark and study Sulsky's videos for a bit.
