Of Sports Betting and Playoffs

Ehhhh, not the Washington Wizard The same team the put to complete shame the Raps a few years back, sweeping them 4-0 after the Raps had done them the same favour in the regular season Pretty happy that I only bet 500$ on the Raps today (I was right in thinking 60 wins meant something to them) as, alas, Wellington went completely nut apes on them hitting 6 threes in the 4th quarter alone Oh well, I have a last 1k to bet on the playoffs and will call it quits if that fails (don't want to waste all my cryptos on sports betting, do we, especially when considering the recent crypto downswing...).

Am in Pisaq and will be seeking out to book an ayahuasca ceremony tomorrow ; this is really the place I want to do it, so it would suck to have to fly to the jungle up north as I love the vibes over here... Also a bit of a sign that the owner of the hotel where I am staying, went on a 20 minute monologue - full on passionate and wide eyes and all - on the benefits of ayahuasca when I checked in (he does a journey every full moon).

Darn Pisaq is easily in my top 5 of places visited... Along with Dawson City - obviously -, Vancouver Island (a paradise and would be an amazing place to settle down), Jaisalmer, India (the desert, enuff said ) and Nazareth, Israel (the vibes yo ).

Found an ayahuasca ceremony that takes place this Sunday (just messaged them) ; am really looking forward to it and... not Much like meditation, I expect lots of good and bad and many-Mucho-INTENSITY

Am quite on the upswing over the past couple of days, despite the lol volume and disconnections.

Of Psychedelic Journeys and Cold Water

Found an ayahuasca ceremony for this upcoming Sunday Am approaching it the same way that I would with a meditation retreat : with acceptance, excitement and apprehension. I have been told that, much like meditation, an openness required towards the unknown, our fears and demons, all of which must be in tune for the journey to be as effective as possible... I remember times where I had some unprecedented pain in my body (like my back being utterly blocked in one gigantic knot, making it hard to walk, let alone bend ) just before going to the meditation centre for an extensive stay. Of course, it would take a few weeks, but I would ultimately release this pain to my immense relief

Took a 1.4k hit this morning in 30 minutes. Still a solid week results wise, but disconnections have been an issue. And then, when I stepped into the shower, I was vividly reminded by the cold water of the short comings of my hotel room, hence the question popping in my head "why did I just pay for an extra week ". But then again, the sound of the running river outside of my window combined with the nice staff, largely makes up for it

I have not studied poker nor had a Spanish course in over 2 weeks (my teacher was on vacation), but will get back into the swing of things with 3h of MTT studying in preparation for the Party Millions My Spanish courses will have to wait until May, although I do obviously get to practice daily over here.

NBA Playoffs are BACK

Raptors Win, RAPTORS WIN GAME 1 !!!. A heck of a game Did not put any money on the series, as that sweep from 3 years stilllll stinnnnnggggsss . So instead I went ahead and picked Boston as series winner (good odds) and the Cavs to win game 1 tomorrow. So do not be surprised if none of the above happens

Managed a solid 2.6k today in 3h, thus putting us at 5k in 15h this week Will not play tomorrow, as I will meditate a few hours and chill before the ayahuasca journey.

The Day After

Feeling crippled today despite having one of my most sublime experiences ever yesterday/this morning I guess bringing up your demons to the surface and speaking heads-up with Mother Nature, will take a toll on someone's body... and mind Will not get much into details over here, as plentiful will be written in the next few days which I will post either on Medium or my travel thread. (either of which will be linked over here). But darn, it was beyond amazing

Nope first time, although I had tried dmt back in Australia during my trip in 2000 (in a hippie gathering outside Tenterfield in the bush), but, alas, to no avail, as I simply was not ready for it (I did not inhale properly, moreso out of nervousness than ignorance).

Definitely am rooting for the OKC experience, despite not being a fan of Melo at all As far as my bets went, Cleveland laid an egg in game #1 (to no surprise to yours truly, as, you know, I kinda jinxed them by throwing money their way ), but it remains a win-win for me, as long as the Cavs do not go ahead and sweep the remainder of the series I would love to see a rested Raps vs a worn out Cavs team (or even a Pacers team, albeit very unlikely...).

I will try to put in 2h of grind today (have not played in 2 days), but we will see how my mind will handle it, as I am emotionally drained

Establishing Some Sort of Structure

Still recovering from the ayahuasca journey... ehhhhh, I feel completely depleted, sensitive, an open scar, much like after an extensive meditation retreat, tbh... On the + side though, I managed to put in 3h at the virtual tables, which was a little unexpected. Much more on the aya ceremony to come in the next few days...

Looking ahead, we have Party Millions next Tuesday (will probably go grind 5-10 at the Playground on Monday, get my feet wet and purchase my ME ticket), so want to put in 3h of MTT studying this week along with perhaps 18h of grinding... But, much more importantly, will go hiking tomorrow afternoon, soak in Pisaq some more, pay my farewells to Peru and, you know, start feeling like a human again - not some sort of otherworldly sensitive sorta being from Ayahuasca-LaLaLand

Speaking of which and to get it out of my system, here are 2 insights during my recent psychedelic voyage :

Primo : As of yesterday, I quit eating red meat (and most likely chicken in the ensuing months, if not right away). I came into direct interaction with Mother Nature during my trip, I saw visions of dead animals, understood them for what it was, so enough is enuff : I have done sufficient damage to Gaia. For the record, I was a vegetarian for 4 years from age 21-25, so it will not be that difficult to maintain the habit again.

Secondo : Causality is in illusion. Let me explain. Let's take the Toronto Raptors Game 1 as an example... They won by 8 points, yet the results could of gone Washington's way if variance did not fall for the good guys (think 16/30 on 3 point attempts and many role players going WAY beyond their regular season expectations). So let's say that if the Raps play this game 100 times, they win 70/100. Ok? Fair assessment, no, especially for us poker players well aware of variance... Yet when we look into the news the next day, the narrative revolves around the Raps shaking off their demons of Game 1 etc., as not only do newspapers/news outlet focus exclusively on narratives, but in this reality, Toronto won the game 100% of the time, not 70% of the time like would be a more realistic outcome. Ok, sure, we clearly understand what is a narrative fallacy, but what about a causality bias...

If we dissolve the example further and look into the analytics of the game in question, stuff like 3 point shooting, rebounds, free throws etc. can be dissected on their own, thus swaying us furthermore from the end result of the game, right, but what if we dissolved to a microscopic degree... What if the game become a series of vectors, or shapes, or dynamic movements... Or pure vibrations, right, devoid of any form of entity... What if the game was and was not simultaneously... As you can tell, I am still immersed in my journey which, for pragmatic purposes, serves meditation but not really the material world... Ok, enuff said

Normalcy... Somewhat

Am feeling back to normal again, however normalcy might be like after a deep mystic journey... Well, tbh, even if you never feel like quite the same lad after opening that spiritual door, an Ayahuasca journey is so much parallel to a Vipassana one that not only are the similarity striking af, but so are the ensuing side effects

For some reason, my Peruvian sim card no longer works... Perhaps it is time to leave the country, isn't it It does put a halt to my grinding intentions though as the hotel wifi is as unreliable as can be

Just got a message from that Belarusan chick that I met in Machu Picchu and we are talking about meeting up in Lima... Which would alter my plans, as I had already paid for a hotel in Cusco (would lose 1 night) and would need to hop on a plane a day sooner, but I really want to see her again, so...

Will work on my Ayahuasca post tonight, study MTTs for an hour and watch the Cavs hopefully take a spanking

Altered Plans

I had planned on grinding 4h online (split in between morning and evening), go do some last minute shopping for gifts, get a massage, watch the Raps beat up The Wizards in Washington... All smooth sailing, until I got hit with a few disconnections, that is All things accounted for, I think I find myself close to that 5k of budget that I initially allocated for unexpected mishaps (when factoring the -2.2k in disconnections). No big deal though, as I easily crushed the original 25k goal that I set for the Peruvian part of my adventure (42.1k) And darn, this winter has been amazing Beyond (by far) any expectations

Meeting up with that Belarusan chick in Lima tomorrow ; am flying in at noon, hopping on a bus to Miraflores, hanging out, eating out in a nice restaurant and then will probably listen to some live music before going back to the airport for my 1am flight to Montreal. It should be a fun day

I find it really intriguing how seemingly contradictory people's personalities can be... Take my Belarusan friend, for example : she stays in hostal dorms, loves the outdoors, is very simple and definitely has a strong hippyish side to her, yet is a foodie, spends a fortune eating out... Much like yours truly, come to think of it, that has very little belongings, is not materialistic for 2 fracking cents, prefers remote areas and simple people, yet indulges in nice hotels, fancy restaurants and beautiful women This said, I prefer it when someone cannot be put in a box and goes beyond expectations

I did not know this until this morning, but Lima is the only city in the world that has 2 of the top 10 rated restaurants Go figure We will try to go to one of them tomorrow, but it should be tough without a reservation...

I contacted some Vipassana Canadian friends about getting a dose or 2 of Ayahuasca so I can do on my own ; there is just no way I want to go deep in a journey in the company of recreational peeps that are in it to party-party So could be nice, to go REAL-F**king-DEEP while meditating for 10h str8

Last Goodbyes

Well that was absolutely fun day. We had an appetizer/coffee at Largomar (the mall on the cliffside of the ocean), hung out at the beach (went for a dip), had a swell dinner in Barranco in a Japanese restaurant and ended up the evening listening to live music She is a great chick and would definitely envision a relationship (would meet up with her in Munich, Germany, if she sends me an invite) ; problem is, she is just freshly out of a 2 year relationship (like 2 days ago) and she has a few men running after her, both of them country(German)men, which, you know, is much more pragmatic than falling for a French Canadian wanderlust dude, no matter how charming the latter is I figure the chances of this ever working out are…. ehhhhh, a 1 outer with 2 streets to come/AKA roughly 4%

The day started off in a fog when I woke up to my alarm, rushed to the airport, made it to Lima 30 minutes late, hopped in a taxi after barely missing the bus (ran after it and was pounding on its side for it to stop, alas, to no avail), jumping in a taxi after agreeing to 50 Soles (turns out the fracking douchebag was asking for 50 USD with is completely lolllll and I let the ****er now by calling him a ****ing idiot and yelling “stop the car” to then insist “STOP THE ****ING CAR NOW ”. EHhhhhhh Uber >>>>> Taxis.

Well, the winter has been an absolute BLAST Now time to get back to Montreal, have dinner with my sister’s family, watch the Raptors >>>>> (>>>>>) Wizards, go to the casino tomorrow and crush the Party Millions the next day. Easy game. I mean, it doesn’t get easier, right

Only got 2h of sleep in the flight, not that it matters though, as outside of family time today, will watch the Toronto (easy) game followed by the Cavs (defeat). Will go to the Playground tomorrow night to play some 5-10 (rumour has it that it has been barely running once every 2 weeks, but they should be enough peeps in town for Party Millions, me thinks...).

Live Grind

Lots of peeps in town already ; the first 5-10 table got started shortly past noon and waiting lists were piling up to 60+ by 1pm Things were not looking very promising when I showed just past 3pm and found myself 30th on the list despite having phoned an hour in advance So I hopped in a 600$ satellite, hoping to pounce successfully on the OMCs along the way (which I did, but alas, failed just short of the ME seat ). Of course, after busting out, I was hungry, so I put my name on the 5-5 and 5-10 list (you get free food when you play cash), only to 3bet-triple barrel A8o on a K222x board to the tune of 700$ So, you know, not the best start ever to my live Montreal gring : -1.3k in 7h live

Am still separating too much my live swings from my virtual ones ; for some reason, a 1.3k stings much more today, than does a virtual of the same size that will occur in 20 minutes. It is as if that it feels as a failure live, where it remains a benign swing online... A few notes :

- Cool to see Viktor Blom (Isildur1) on the main stage, grinding highstakes

- Live tendencies are so fracking random, so do not forget the "spazz factor"...

- I need to see these tournaments as shot taking.

- Hummmmm, need to find a dating site for Montreal women...

- Do the Toronto Raptors have to stress me out this f**king much I literally crashed out for 12h after the game, and it was not all jetlag related...

That's it for now. Am beat Will rest and go crush the Main tomorrow

Morning Sickness

T-I-L-T. Yup, that is how I felt first thing in the morning, hence the prolong snooooozzzinnnnggg that ensued and the ultimate decision to skip Day 1A. Yup, what can I say, I have described it extensively in this thread, but live MTTs tilt the living shyt out of me (or in this case, a 600$ satty yesterday), as my expectations are just not rational, to say the least. For example, I put in 2h online today, found myself down 3k at one point, yet still handled the hit much - MUCH - better than my 1.3k live downswing yesterday... Go figure - or don't... So anyhow, had dinner with my folks instead, have a meeting with my bank representative tomorrow (for investments) and then we will fire my first ME bullet Thursday (and a second one Friday, barring morning tiltness... ).

That Belarusan chick got back to me yesterday and today, which is cool, as I did not expect any news... like ever I do not think it changes much of our dating end game, but, you know, it doesn't hurt... Darn, I would like to be with that lady

Am organizing my legal stuff in preparation of opening up the possibilities of spending a few years in Europe.

-1.3k live in 7h and -1.1k in 2h online
Spoiler:
that is the Belarusan girl in question taking a pic with a white shirt

Edit : the Raptors's performance tomorrow will heavily factor into my tilting equation as well...

I definitely relate to the live tilt factor. I have still been unable to conquer it, but I know that I will!
The last time I played a live MTT it was a small 230 bounty and basically I lost every flip then busted with back to back 3 outers and just started laughing and went to play cash haha

OOOOOffffff, what a game It was basically tied throughout, with 1001 lead changes and then the Raps sealed it with a 12-0 run in the last few minutes of the game But darn, what an emotional ride This victory combined with a small virtual win today, should make up for a tiltless morning tomorrow

Of Love and Poker

Today's Insight #1 : am definitely not ready for daily 5 digit swings just yet After making it just in time for the first hand at noon at the Playground, I unfortunately bust out during level 6, yet, being very comfortable with my play and all, I decide to reenter for another 5.3k bullet ; when combined with my sports betting (Celtics) and crypto swings, that was a 15k swing today (didn't sell any action for my tourney). Ehhhhh, that is a bit too much for my liking and when you top that adrenaline rush with 5 coffees, I do not think I will fall asleep any time soon...

Insight #2 : It feels good to express ourselves freely with the opposite sex : after flirting with a waitress today (will make sure to compliment her furthermore on Day 2 Saturday), I came back home and let my Belarusan friend know that I was thinking about her and miss her. Sure, it is cheesy as hell, but the message got through AKA, message of luv yo

Insight #3 : Live pokerz equals = Exploitation yo Darn I took some unorthodox-off-the-wall-WTF-Did-you-just-do-lines today And it really threw the other pros for a loop I really left my online standard GTO lines behind and made the most out of playing in a vacuum at a 25 hands an hour clip that is da live pokerz

Insight #4 : That said, live tilts me as f**k. Not sure if the once in a blue moon deep runs make up for the number of times that you fail to make the money and end up in Monkey Tilt Land

Anyhow, going back Saturday to Day 2 with 22bbs, so send some run good my way, will you all

Of Celebrities, Missed Flops and Desperate Rivers

Oooooffff, what a day I showed up with 23bbs, fired a few ammunitions, found myself all-in more times that I wanted to, yet survived every sweat Going back to Day 3 with 29bbs and roughly 25% of the field left.

Darn, am really, really happy with my play today Sure, I made a few fundamental slight mistakes during Day 1, as my MTT game is quite rusty, but darn, those fishy-exploitative lines have worked to a marvel Like min raising a 644 board, and continuing on the 8 with 25, no , because a narrative of repping the flush is more powerful than having blockers, right
Spoiler:
ehhhh, I did not know until we introduced ourselves that my opponent was Lucas Greenwood, a cool MTT teacher on RIO that I studied years back
. Also, a fishy line will work to outstanding results when you look like a rec (I speak the local tongue, always put on a nice shirt, am very sociable, joke around, am 41, I play fast, am not "Dwanish" deliberate in my motions and really know how to present myself like a non-pro). Another thing that has become quite clear to me today : in an exploitative realm where GTO can be easily discarded, there is so - SOOOO - much stuff to do. So many lines to use to throw other pros for a loop...

Another element to add to my dislikes about poker pros : the fracking live MTT pros that play on backed monies and fire bullets, after bullets after f**king bullets... I mean, there was an English fellow today who bought in 3 times (for Day 2 nonetheless, let's not think about his Day 1 bullets...), was sitting to my left and 3betted the living shyt of me all with the f**king makeup money while I have 100% of myself ; it was tilting as frack

Preparation for Day 3 Notepad, Party Millions Style

- John Nash who If me and John would play HU rock-paper-scissors 4 rollz, I would stick an atomic bomb up his arse That is how much I respect GTO in tournaments It's all about exploit folks, something that is not feasible in 100bbs+ NLHE, as to deviate too much from equilibrium would be tremendously pricey in the long run and a clear leak, yet being creative is the art of the land in live MTTs

- Cool to see so many recognizable known pros at each table of Day 2 once we had weathered somewhat through the field.

- This tournament is really important to me. Much much more than any prior - and potentially to come -, as it is in my home town, is the biggest in history on Canadian soil and it would be a way to demonstrate to my family that I made it yo (even though they know it already...).

- Darn, there a few cute ladies in the poker world, albeit not many, obviously. Also saw this hot as frack high maintenance chick walking into the VIP highstakes secluded room. I mean, the girl was drop dead gorgeous (and obviously looked like an escort ).
