Whatuuuuuuuup

Had a sick time in Portugal and in London. Played my first round of golf this year (probably my last till June ), skins vs my brother and my Dad, Dad ended up taking home the bacon after we went up the last exactly all square with 5 skins each, 3 riding on the last. I played surprisingly solid, hit the long ball very well and sank a few putts, short irons/chipping was predictably bad but probably got it round in like 80 or so. Took a few photos from their website, it's a sick course (actually two courses) out there that my Dad has joined. Quinta de Ria and Quinta de Cima if anyone's interested

Crazy how nice they can keep the courses out there year round.

Anyway, besides that we chilled, went on a cycle ride, ate nice food etc etc. Really good fam time.

Got home late on tuesday the 6th, straight down to London on the 7th. Went to the pool hall with smb that night and got my ass handed to me, then on the 8th we were in Hackney for a friend's film premier, a large part of which was shot in our old house in elms road. The film is called Meniscus, I don't think there's anywhere you can see it (they made it for zero budget in their spare time), but it was pretty impressive. It was also maybe the most hipster thing I've ever been a part of, which is always fun After that myself, smb, jvl and nesquick (+ chick) went out for some fancy dinner, where nesquick inevitably talked us into bottle service at 'Mahiki', fancy Mayfair club with a kind of Hawaiian beach house theme. Chaos ensued, thankfully faded the flip at the end of the night

Chilled hung over day on the Friday, went to hot yoga in the morning with jvl and smb to sweat out the hangover, was going to yoga fairly regularly in Mexico for a while so the heat wasn't too horrendous (first time I've tried it hot). Then on Saturday a big gang descended on Peckham levels for smb's birthday! Was great to catch up with everyone, made me really want to move back down there tbh, just more going on down there than in Edinburgh. We'll see what happens though.

Grind is going well, been going pretty hard since getting back London. Still running a bit below EV, but it's w/e, always found that form of variance easiest to deal with. Feeling really good about how I'm executing at the tables, giving my best focus pretty consistently and enjoying the grind. 7 full days till I leave for Amsterdam, gonna try and get on the plane on the brink of burnout and smash my volume goal this month.

Going to see Charles Hoskinson talk at Edinburgh uni tonight with some friends, should be interesting.

Gl out there!

I golfed in the US a tiny bit when I was a little kid (my whole family was into golf for a time) but not recently. I know it's great out there, but there's plenty top tier golf in Scotland I haven't explored yet. One day for sure

I used to play a heap of golf when I was a kid, most of my best friends from home are guys I golfed a lot with. While I was at uni I still played decent amounts during summer, but I've basically slowly fallen off since then, to the point where now I just play a couple times a year. For a while I was decent, played off 1 for maybe 2-3 medals total, hovered around 2/3 for a couple of years. Up in Inverness, playing off 2 I was on the fringes of my 8 man club team, then moved down to St Albans just outside London and was instantly the 2nd best golfer in the club lol. Think they had about 10 category 1 golfers, compared with probably 40-50 up the way. Different game down there (not to mention about 4x as expensive). I'm a decent bit heavier/stronger since then so I now hit the long ball much better, but my short game used to be absolutely wicked, now it's like... decent Putting has always been the strongest part of my game. I also noticed a big improvement in my golf when I started actively working on my mental game for poker - just trying on every shot at club level puts you way ahead of most of the competition in that regard lol.

As for sticks, my dad gave me a freeroll/propbet as a little kid, that if I could get down to a single figure handicap while I was still a junior (under 16 iirc) he would get me any set of irons I wanted. Made it with like a year to spare, got a beauuuutiful set of titleist combos, 1/2 inch longer, stiff. Treated myself to a nice Titleist driver a few years ago, 3w/rescue as pretty gash, cleveland wedges and a Yes! Callie putter I've had since I was like 14.

Saw big Tommo after he played round Brora last summer, he was super nice about taking photos with people and stuff. Didn't check out his swoleness lol, but he told us he shot 75, which is good going round brora given there was like a 3-4 club wind.

In other news, was on a ****ing rampage at ju jitsu this morning. Had 2x 4m rounds with a guy much bigger/better than me called Ross (he probably weighs like 105-110kg to my 80) who I'd literally never tapped before in probably around an hour of rolling, managed to snipe an armbar from my guard, then land a kimura (also from guard), then finish a triangle all in the first round. 2nd round was much closer, when the buzzer went I was fighting off a head in arm choke, but yea - was pretty sick feeling to have a real competition with a guy who usually just manhandles me. Starting to learn some butterfly guard which is cool, I'm very dependent on my guard atm, I'm actually really bad once I pass guard myself actually... Actually enjoy it so much, it's not that different from poker in a lot of ways. On the flipside, I'm now getting sports massage on my neck/shoulders fairly regularly, get pretty tight/sore if I'm sparring a lot.

Anyone got some decent recommendations from grind music? I probably only listen to music maybe 30% of the time while I'm playing atm, but I'm a little stuck on the same stuff atm (Drake, Kanye etc). Only new stuff I'm listening to is Dave (Frank a year+ ahead of me on this as usual ).

Actually stumbled across this tune from Drake's spotify page (there's a remix ft him that is sick)

Aight, that's it for now, will hold off updating results till end of the month.

I'm quite into JaBig deep house mixes on youtube. Basically house music with lower BPM. It's not for ev1, most people like stuff a bit more energetic but deep house def rocks my boat.

I've actually gone completely the other direction and i've been listening to random piano music since making that post. feel at least 20% more zen listening to some peaceful piano. was actually talking with a friend about how sick it would be to get a piano in my apt.. might actually have a think about that.

                    ============================

                    (rickman voice) RESULTS!

Very similar result to last month tbh - still feel I'm running quite significantly above EV overall, even though I'm a fair chunk under AIEV for the year. Lots of friendly runouts and stuff sticking in my mind anyway, though I am making a conscious effort to try and notice them for mental game improvement. Smashed the rough goal I set out for myself which was to play 35k hands, so a bit ahead of the game volume wise. Games have been good, there's a lot more guys willing to start a table or two these days, though there's also a new class of scumreg who will instant sit the new table when a 3h game starts to try and snipe a free table, gets right on my nerves. Luismi chief offender.

Anyway, life-wise things are going good, enjoying Edinburgh more and more - had a trapped nerve in my shoulder the last 10 days or so which has stopped me from doing BJJ, had a sports massage last Wednesday and had another booked for today but it got cancelled due to the weather (big snowstorm all across the UK). The stag do in Amsterdam was decent, struggled pretty hard with the first pint on the second day but had sick nights out both nights - good to catch up with the boys from home, hadn't seen most of them in a few years. We went and watched the Scotland vs England rugby game in some pub and things got absolutely wild when Scotland somehow pulled off a convincing win. Sickest part of it is that Scotland vs Ireland is now potentially championship deciding, and I'm already booked on that for another friend's stag weekend of the 10th, all the boys taking their kilts and stuff so that should be epic. Pretty sure that stag will put in a better performance than the boy last weekend aswel, super weaksauce effort lol (in his bed before the rugby kicked off on saturday lmao).

Besides that stag I have very little planned for this month, hopefully the shoulder eases off so I can get back to training, but any road up I should be able to hammer out some very decent volume. Gonna set an ambitious goal of 70k hands. Looks like there's a good chance I'll be taking an actual holiday in early April so would be nice to get further ahead of the volume goal. Also need to be a little more careful with my table count - it's pretty often I end up like 14+ tabling, don't think my winrate falls super drastically or anything, but probably falls enough that I'm more +EV at like 12 tables.

That's it for now, peace out!
